re: Mayberry Comes (Back) to Westminster
You don't have to wait 7 months to enjoy Mayberry fun as it returns to Westminster, SC April 20 21 for the 2nd annual event. Several of tribute artists will be back to entertain folks during the two-day event. Headlining is David Browning, The Mayberry Deputy . Along with David will be Allan “Floyd the Barber” Newsome, Tim “Goober” Pettigrew, and Phil “Ernest T. Bass” Fox, Jeff “Howard Sprague” Branch, Kenneth “Otis Campbell” Junkin, Bob “Briscoe Darling” Mundy, Christy Andylene McLendon and Art Almost Andy Fettig. Also joining the festivities will be TAGS alumni LeRoy McNees, a talented dobro guitar player. In addition to visiting with folks in the downtown Westminster area the artists will take part in a Mayberry Memories concert and talent show late Saturday afternoon featuring Rodney Dillard The Dillard Band. Joining Rodney will be his TV sister Maggie Charlene Peterson who will serve as the Official Host and Parade Marshall of the two day event. Several other venues are planned along with two Mayberry parades Saturday, a Cruise In featuring vintage autos and tractors from the 50’s, 60’s early 70’s, a Miss Mrs. Mayberry pageant March 24, A Salute to Elvis show with Wayne Eullis Friday evening, whistling and trivia contests, arts and craft displays, music and food venues, and more. Today I was re-reading the classic Agatha Christie novel And Then There Were None. I hadn't read it in probably 25 years, and I was surprised to come across the name Miss Beatrice Taylor mentioned in passing. I had to stop and wonder if one of the creators of The Show might have used this as the basis for the name of Aunt Bee. For them that don't know, Andy's real-life grandmother was named Taylor, hence Andy's character's last name. Mayberry sightings
I'm happier than a hot hog in a cool mud hole. The cable company here just added two new networks to our cable..MEtv and Antennatvnow I get TAGS on THIStv every morning followed by Matlock and TAGs on TVland plus two more hours of Matlock on WGN-A..and an hour of Gomer Pyle on MEtv...It don't get any better than that..unless of course I had a date with Peggy...she wasn't only very pretty, she was a real lady...and we both love music...I suppose I would pick her up in my 1959 Ford and we'd drive down to Myers lake for a picnic and maybe a little fishing..I think she'd like to skip a few rocks too..we'd get into the boat and go off some place where we couldn't be bothered by Barney or Goober...and just listen to the sounds of the of the surrounding outdoors and enjoy some loose talk, she could tell me all about her travels and i'd share some of my thoughts about Mayberry and it's people. ...then we'd head on back to town maybe stop at the drug store for an ice cream cone afterwards we'd go end up the front porch, sit in the swing and just get to know one another a little better...Later I would walk her home maybe get a little kissy, kissy,nothing serious, of course, after all it is a first date. Then say good night...I only have one thing to say after a day like that...She nice, real nice My wife fixed me waffles for a valentines day gift. Now I ain't sayin' she's a bad cook, but I now have four new tires for my car... Aunt Bee: if you won't do it for me, do it for Robie Miller. But I don't even know Robie Miller...
