Two Chairs No Waiting - Andy Griffith Show Fan Podcast #236: Disappearing Keys

2013-05-14 Thread Allan Newsome
Two Chairs No Waiting 236: Disappearing Keys
  http://twochairsnowaiting.com/

There are several times throughout the run of The Andy Griffith Show
were we see continuity errors. From Barney’s badge being on his shirt
in one scene and missing in the next to people missing from a bench on
the street only to appear when the shot cuts to a different angle.

On this episode a caller points out the disappearing jail cell keys
while another person writes in to note the Taylor’s home moving right
next door to Miss Crump’s house.

Was there a continuity person? How might they have missed these
errors? Let’s find out.

A Mayberry moment

2013-05-14 Thread Daniel Santos

Can't you just picture Andy and Barney doing this for Otis.

Town drunk was so beloved that even the local police mourn his death9 hrs ago

Alvin Cote racked up 843 public drunkenness arrests during his time as a
homeless alcoholic in Saskatoon, Canada. So by the time he died last month at
the age of 59, local cops knew and tolerated Cote (Catchphrase: "I'm a
fighter") so much that they put his police sketch on T-shirts to commemorate
his death. Cote was so beloved during his life, the police gave him eyeglasses
from charity boxes earmarked for Africa; they bought him food and celebrated
his birthday. It might seem troublesome to lionize a town drunk, but if a man
can be judged by how he's remembered after he's gone, Cote was much, much more
than that. [Source]

2013-05-14 Thread Debbie Whisenant
Hey Mike,

For starters, how about:

Peanut butter sandwiches (“No thanks, Leon.”)

Butterscotch pecan pie (Aunt Bee)

Apple pie (Aunt Bee)

Chicken-a-la-king (Grace Foster)

Brownies (Thelma Lou)

Cashew Fudge (Thelma Lou)

Leg of lamb (Andy's favorite dish)

White beans ("If that ain't a tribute to white beans, I don't know what
is.")

Homemade ice cream (“You ain’t ever had homemade ice cream?”)

And you have to have some kerosene pickles (“It ain’t your heart we need.”)

A brush in the mouth is better than a punch in the nose !

2013-05-14 Thread Holland Shoaf

Seems too obvious not to be intentional but in the episode Alcohol and Old Lace
I see Floyd putting the brush ( with talcum powder ) right on Andys mouth as
he's finishing up his haircut. Certainly this couldnt be scripted . Accident ?
Strange how Andy didnt flinch or anything but continued on .. Its the actor
of the man.
I'm sure when a few years pass Floyd wont ever remember doing it and would
certainly give Andy a punch in the nose if he said he did !

Mayberry 101 book ( dont know if the answer to my quesion is in there to begin

Less than one hour from Mayberry
---heres a little reading on the subject
Why did Barney (Don Knotts) leave TAGS after the 5th Season?

Andy had originally signed to do the show for 5 years, and I had a five year
contract. He said " I'm only going to do this for 5 years and then move on."
Even in the beginning of the fifth year he was still saying that. So I started
self-protecting immediately and began searching out what I was going to do
next. I interviewed with all networks. I was very hot with that show, so I
could have had almost anything I wanted. Finally, I wound up getting a very
nice feature deal with the universal to make The Ghost and Mr. Chicken. Anyway,
it came down to this: I hadn't actually signed with Universal yet but had made
a lot deals and negotiated for a long time. Then all of a sudden Andy turned
around and changed his mind. He came to me and said, "I've decided to stay on.
What do you think? We've got a new deal to offer you. Do you want to stay. But
by then I had already committed myself to universal, where I had an opportunity
to make features. Although I didn't have a production company , they gave me an
office, my own writers and a five year contract. It was a nice deal, and by
then I thought it was time for me to move on - so I did. I came back and did a
few shows with Andy. I used to kid them when I came back. I'd say "Are you
still working with that little screen? Then they'd yell, "here comes the movie
actor."

Alumni Sighting

2013-05-14 Thread DAVID QUINN
Over the weekend, my family rented a DVD at the local video store, one called
"Deep In The Heart".It is a heartwarming family story that I can recommend
to everyone on this site. But any hoo, at the start of the movie our hero is
nothing but a mean drunk, beating his wife and kids and losing his job. At
one point in his drunken days, he is locked up in jail for drinking and
fighting. The sheriff walks in and looks at him sitting in the cell and
proceeds to tell him, "Look here, this has got to stop, I am not Andy Griffin
and you are sure not Otis".
I thought that was pretty
funny..
Orville Hendricks - Mount Pilot Butter and Egg Man. But the sheriff never
mentioned a word about any chicken coop casanova.

My Visit With A Former Policeman

2013-05-14 Thread Ken Anderson
Tonight I had the pleasure of having an old friend stop in for a visit. I
haven't seen him in years. He is 84 years old and he is a retired homicide
detective from Milwaukee. It was the first time he has seen my squad car.
We sat in the car for a long time and he reminisced about some of his
early days as a police officer in the big city. His experiences were a far
cry from our peaceful little Mayberry. He began his career in the early
'60s so he said he spent a lot of hours in a squad car very similar to mine.

Mayberry Foods

2013-05-14 Thread Dan Goodwin
Mike was talking about Mayberry foodslet's not forget Hoot Owl Pie. On
another food note, I was watching Those Gossiping Men this morning. When
Wilburn Finch first appears, he comes into the drug store for a root beer.
Aunt Bee and Emma are sitting there having coffee and what appears to be
lunch. Don't know of any other instance where you could get anything at the
drug store except soda fountain items.

I also looked up Jack Finch who played shoe salesman extraordinaire, Wilbur
Finch. IMDB only lists a total of 12 career appearances. I wonder what his
story is? Stage actor, part-time actor, moved behind the camera in some
capacity, sold cars? Makes you wonder.
