Piano players
Someone asked the other day if Frances Bavier / Aunt Bee actually played the piano. Now I may not know much about cars and guns, but I do know about pianos. Almost without exception, whenever we see a character on TAGS (or any TV show) playing the piano, they are just faking it. Reta Shaw (Eleanora Poultice) really does play during Barney's voice lesson, and the unknown woman who played Hazel really does play during the choir scenes. Andy picks out a few notes on Aunt Bee's piano when they're trying to figure out how to make Barney bigger and taller so he can pass his physical (at least I think that was the episode), and Ronny / Opie actually plays the beginning exercises when he takes lessons from Clara. Funny how the piano is out of tune when he plays, but not when Flip Conroy plays. Floyd on Gunsmoke
Hi all, Recently, I attended the Spirit of the Cowboy Festival down in McKinney, Texas, and it was such an invigorating experience, I've begun to renew my interest in westerns. At the event were the cast of the Virginian, as well as Robert Fuller (Laramie, Emergency), Alex Cord (numerous, Stagecoach, Gunsmoke), Paul Petersen (Donna Reed, F-Troop), as well as others. Remembering that Howard McNear portrayed Doc Adams on the radio version of "Gunsmoke" (which preceded the t.v. version) prior to TAGS, it was interesting that William Conrad (Cannon) played Marshall Dillon, while Parley Baer (Mayor Stoner) played Chester! Here's a great site that has radio episodes in the public domain.
