Re: who I would be in Mayberry

2014-03-17 Thread Musiklyors
I really liked Mr. Foley's decision to let Aunt Bea put her side of beef in
his freezer because her old freezer on the back porch wasn't working. In
fact it was bumping and making groaning noises. Gomer made matters worse
after Aunt Bea disregarded Andy's instructions to "call the man!" Gomer's ill
placed wrench caused the freezer to lose all it's gay-ss.
I could never be that kind, so I would like to be Mr. Foley.

Honest Ken's Used Car Lot

2014-03-17 Thread DAVID QUINN
Gotta warn all you unwary consumers out there to avoid Honest Ken's Used Car
Lot. I recently purchased a car from him that was totally unacceptable. When
I visited his car lot, he had a car I had never heard of, something called a
1987 YUGO. He said he would let me have it real cheap. Hey, I figured if
the car was called YOU GO, what else could you want. Well let me tell you
what happened. Nothing but trouble. But one day I did double the value of
my Yugo, it was when I filled it up with gasoline. You know what the
difference is between a Jehovah Witness and Ken's Yugo? You can shut the
door on a Jehovah Witness. But just today, I finally got the Yugo to really
go.It went the fastest it ever has since I had it. Unfortunately it was
when it was hooked up behind the tow truck going back to Ken's Car Lot.

car for a dozen eggs was pretty cheap.

Mailman

2014-03-17 Thread David Oberly
I should clarify that I just thought there should have been a major character
that was the mailman, one that was in perhaps dozens of episodes and played by
the same character. It could have added a whole different dimension to an
already wonderful show. He likely would have been a somewhat of a nosey guy,
probably thin and tall kinda like the "I got the pitcher of water" guy. Just a
thought.

My 1951 Goodmobile from Mrs. Lesch

2014-03-17 Thread Ken Anderson
Dang, I went and bought a car from Mrs. Lesch. She didn't have an
Oldsmobile but she did have a 1951 Goodmobile that was owned by a retired
priest who only drove it to confession and once a week to the casino.

Any way I got it home and took it for a drive and let me tell you it was
some car. First of all, because it was a Goodmobile it took forever to get
it moving and once you did, the hoses leaked, it rattled under the hood, it
had dented bumpers and a terrible exhaust.

Then I parked it for a while to give it a ten minute rest and it started to
rain. I remembered I had locked the doors with the keys in the car and I
had to get in to get the top up because of the rain. So that cost me
another $50 for a locksmith to come open the doors. And wouldn't you know
it. The locksmith's name was Don.

This all proves one thing. If you want to buy a good car, you have to go
to Honest Ken's.

Mailman in Mayberry

2014-03-17 Thread Brian Kaufman
David mentioned that he would like to be the mailman in
Mayberry.  Actually, there was a mailman
in Mayberry.   I remember him bringing
mail to the courthouse just as Andy and Barney were arriving there.  Andy asked
for the mail, but the mailman refused to hand the mail to directly to Andy.  He
said that he couldn't hand Andy the mail because “you’re
not an authorized receptacle”.  Barney
later says, “Put a mailsack on some people and it goes right to their heads!”.

Watching a 1956 episode of Ozzie and Harriet today only to find Hal Smith in

have a name but was credited as "Man with the shoes."

Now, if I was Ken Anderson, you'd think I made that up.

Mayberry Squad Car Nationals

2014-03-17 Thread Jeff Koontz
Mayberry in the Midwest is on the calendar for May 17-18th in Danville, IN. I'd
like to "crowd source" ideas for the Mayberry Squad Car Nationals, which are
being held during the event.

The MSCN is a timed competition between squad car owners to drive an obstacle
course with a passenger who performs various tasks along the course.
"Obstacles" used in the past include busting up a still, hanging a stop sign,
mailing a lucky letter and operation pickle swap.

A fun obstacle is something
 - the average fan will recognize from a popular episode,
 - isn't too easy to do, but doesn't take too long to complete the task and
keep the action moving,
 - is fairly easy and inexpensive to create 8-10 props for an obstacle.

So stopping to "buy a fur for Emmett's anniversary gift" wouldn't take long,
but most people may not have seen that color episode to understand why that
would be done and Mayberry Cafe would not want to buy a fur for a prop. I'd
love to see some creative ideas posted on the Digest and try to get some
incorporated into this year's MSCN.

Lots of events are planned this spring (Mayberry Comes to Westminster,
concerts, cast performances), hopefully in your neck of Old Man Kelsey's Woods,
so get out and meet other members of our Mayberry community this year.

Good times,
Jeff

Mailman in Mayberry

2014-03-17 Thread Ken Anderson
We do see the mailman in TAGS. He delivered the mail to the courthouse
when Andy was getting all the work done by Henry Wheeler. He thought it was
strange that Henry had such smooth hands. He noticed it when he shook
hands with Henry.

The mailman took on a larger role in Mayberry RFD where he was seen a
number of times. He was a busy man. He not only worked behind the window
in the post office but I thought it was strange that he also delivered the
mail to the courthouse and to Emmett Clark and he also delivered the mail
to the Sam Jones Farm. I would think there would have been a different
carrier for the rural areas.

sewers and quilters in Mayberry

I went to an Alpaca ranch in the UP of Michigan last year and they had a gift
store that sold Alpaca products like clothing and yarn.  Every week they had
people getting together to knit things from the yarn.  Sounds like a place
where, if you can harness the energy from knitting and talking, you could light
up the whole town.

If at first you don't succeed, try and hide your astonishment.

RE: Mailman in Mayberry

> The one job I always thought it was odd that you never saw was the mailman.

There was the mailman that shook Mr. Wheeler's hand and told Andy it was odd
that a handyman had such smooth skin.

And then there was Dub Taylor who played a mailman, complaining that Barney had
Wanted signs on the bulletin board and he didn't have as many. Andy reminded
him that he had something better - quality.

And the mail - plenty of episodes included mail - The Christmas Story (Barney,
Parney Poo), The package of gifts from the Ubacher Brothers, package of gifts
from Newton Monroe, the letter to Aunt Bee from Roger Hanover, Aunt Bee's jury
duty summons, I'll stop there.
