50 mph minus 45 equals

2014-06-06 Thread Holland Shoaf
Long time since I posted. Good to be back in Mayberry. Was watching the episode
where the fun girls drove through Mayberry doing 50 mph ( as Andy said to
Barney ) . Later Andy told Daphne she must have been doing 45. If I take the
latter from the former and use a popular algorithm, I would bet by mid show
they wouldn't have been found guilty of speeding at all ( which was in a 20
mph zone )!

Also it must have took them at least a few minutes to catch up to them , but
were they still in Mayberry ? Did Skippy and Daphne do a U turn on the road
somewhere and end back in Mayberry or were they in another town where our
fearless crime fighters had jurisdiction there too? Surely Mayberry wasn't big
enough that the chase started and ended inside the limits of Mayberry. Don't
remember Palmerton Café in Mayberry. Doesn't mean there wasn't one.

Miss Crump

2014-06-06 Thread Patricia Haley

 Miss Crump.

Paul,

I was just wonder why he was still calling her Miss Crump and not Helen. By
that episode Opie Ill Got Gain, it was 12 episodes since Andy decided to
court Helen Crump. He did that in A Wife for Andy. His first date with Helen
wasn't until A Date For Gomer, the nest episode after Opie's Ill Got Gain.
Seems like a long time for Andy to finally ask Helen for a date after he
decided to court her. Just saying.. That's ok too.

Millie in CA.

Alumni sightings

2014-06-06 Thread Marguerite
Watching an old movie on TCM. Ron Howard's pal Glenn Ford, Barney's fave actor,
was married to Debbie Reynolds. Among the faces in the movie were Aunt Bee
(Francis Bavier) who was married to "Goldbrick" Wheeler. Came in after it
started so I don't know the name. Eva Gabor was also in the movie.

Another that did not send. Sheesh!

Where does Goober live?

2014-06-06 Thread Paul Mulik
A day or two ago on one of the Facebook groups, the subject of residences came
up, which got me to thinking: do we ever see Goober's residence? I've been
thinking and thinking (without a bucket) and I can't think of a single
appearance, until Mayberry RFD. There's a funny scene where Sam and Mike visit
Goober, and a Mike is impressed by Goober's fishing trophy (mounted taxidermy
fish), but it turns out Goober didn't actually catch it, he found it floating
in the lake, dead.

Anyway, someone said Goober lived at the gas station, but I'm pretty sure
that's incorrect. For example, the first time we ever hear about Goober is in
Man in a Hurry, when Gomer and Mr. Tucker are at the filling station. Gomer
gives Mr. Tucker Goober's phone number, which implies that Goober doesn't live
right there in the station. Then later, in Mind Over Matter (the one where
Goober is convinced he has been seriously injured) when Aunt Bee drives to the
gas station, Goober tells her, "I've got to go home, I've got to lay down right
away ... I'll just go to my place," but Aunt Bee insists, "there's no one there
to take care of you."

So if someone can think of any TAGS episode in which we see Goober's residence
or in which Goober mentions where he lives, please refresh my memory, which
sometimes gets a little rusty these days.

Goober's Residence

2014-06-06 Thread Ken Anderson
In Goober's New Gas Station episode of Mayberry RFD Goober is shown living
in a boarding house right adjacent to the gas station. He hears Howard
digging in his oil pit and he comes out of the house in his red pajamas.

Gomer said he had a little place to live in the back of the gas station
because when he was let go for being "insufficient" in his duties, he had
to move out.

2014-06-06 Thread Brent Seguine

Yes, that's the first time we see Goober's residence...
RFD episode "Goober's Brother" (season 2). He lives in Mrs. Lowdermilk's
boarding house.

We see the boarding house again later that season in "Goober's Niece." His
visiting niece is put up in the room next to Goober's.

Drive in at Mayberry

2014-06-06 Thread Ken Anderson
Something I wish they would have had in Mayberry was a good old fashioned
root beer stand or food drive in of some sort. Back in the 50's and 60's
just about every town had at least one root beer stand or Dairy Queen or
some such place. Just think of all the great episodes that could have been
built around that place. Cute car hops for Barney to trouble check for.
Andy, Barney, Thelma Lou, and Helen, sitting in the car eating with their
orders all mixed up, Howard having a crush on one of the car hops. All
kinds of possibilities. Maybe Lydia Crosswaite could have worked there too.
