Books

2015-08-20 Thread Paul Mulik
In the opening scene of Jailbreak, Barney is reading a book entitled
Penitentiary. In other episodes, he reads The Art of Judo and The Art of
Unarmed Self-Defense (they are actually the same book with different words
pasted on the cover).

In The Bazaar, Warren claims to have read all of the Perry Mason stories

It took Edith Gibson three weeks to get through The Rise and Fall of the Roman
Empire

BTW folks, Romeo and Juliet is not a book, it is a PLAY. Why every list of the
world's greatest books includes Romeo and Juliet and Hamlet is something I
will never understand. But I digress.

In The Manhunt, Andy says that when it comes to fishing, Izaak Walton wrote
the book. This is a reference to The Complete Angler, first published in 1653
and remarkably, still in print today.

Ammonia or freon ?

2015-08-20 Thread Holland Shoaf
When Aunt Bea's refrigerator went out and she called Gomer ( instead of the man
), Gomer busted the line and all went running. Aunt Bea referred to ammonia . I
recover freon at my job sometimes and know ammonia is POWERFUL stuff and would
run too if there was a leak. I recover freon from all types of new and OLD OLD
freezers and refrigerators. I often see freezers like the one in the episode in
question. However I have never seen a floor freezer ( that plugs into an
electric outlet ) that runs on ammonia. Ammonia freezers and refrigerators I
see are the ones that go into campers and run off of propane.
I dont think that was ammonia in Aunt Bea's freezer.Do you ?

Typo in Three Wishes for Opie

2015-08-20 Thread GAJADASU
Was on tonight on METV.
When Barney came into the courthouse reading a book, Andy asked him what it
was he was reading. Barney told him it was a book Psychic Phenomena
and handed it to Andy. When Andy had it, the camera was behind Andy and you
could see over his right shoulder the first line of the book's title and
it was spelled PSYHIC.
Did anyone else catch this typo??

That got me to thinking, how many different books were mentioned on
TAGS? Was the Bible mentioned?

In Up in Barney's Room, Barney and Andy talk about Mrs. Mendlebright
being presented with a white Bible at church.

Don't forget Barney's copy of Poems of Romance by T. Johnathan Osgood.

Don't know if we can count Aunt Bee's Rose Poetry. That was probably just one
selection out of Alice Endicott Stong's book.

Barney found his old social studies book from which he recited the
preamble of the constitution.
Andy found his old high school year book. Helen wrote a children's book.
Gomer, Goober and Opie read comic books.
Barney had some of his books bound, including True Detective. Opie
brought home advanced school text books when he thought he wanted to be
a dentist.

Barney also used a book about judo and one about psychic phenomena. And he had
that book of poetry he used to help Opie when Opie was in love with Helen. I

In The Shoplifters episode, the little old lady that Barney accused of

the ladies started showing up at his house.

TAGS fans,
One mention of the Bible is in the hands/purse of the lady shoplifter.
Also, Barney mentions having read all those childish classics.  He also reads
Spells, Omens, Charms and Portents to Ward Off Bad Luck and the collected
works of Buzz Fluhart.  Andy reads The Legend of Sleepy Hollow to Opie
(though it doesn't seem to be the Washington Irving version of the story.
And let's not forget that Goober reads more than fifteen books a month!

Floyd and Teddy Roosevelt

2015-08-20 Thread m white
TAGS fans,
Watched Banjo Playing Deputy last night.  I had forgotten the portion where
Andy and Floyd discuss Teddy Roosevelt's saying, Speak softly and carry a big
stick.  I love when Floyd says something about how a big stick would be handy
in a gang fight because you could just swing it around and you were bound to
hit something.  Andy looks so surprised at the line I almost wonder if it were
an ad-lib on Howard McNear's part.
