TCNW 423: Return to Mayberry Update
Hey folks, This is an episode of the Two Chairs No Waiting podcast I don't think you'll want to miss. --Allan https://youtu.be/myRRKmIfLd8 In the last episode of the podcast we were reminded about the "Return to Mayberry" television movie by Randy Turner's This Week in Mayberry History report so I thought it was fate when I ran across a forgotten Mayberry historical gem. I was looking through the files on my computer trying to find a Mayberry related image and came across a folder named Everett. In that folder was a file named "ending." Not a descriptive name but it made me want to open it to see what was in there. Turns out that it was a letter from The Andy Griffith Show writer Harvey Bullock from 1999 addressing a question about the "Return to Mayberry" and the possible alternate ending that was written. This is BIG and I'm just sorry it's been filed away in a digital folder for all these years but at least we get to hear the answer now. Bonus: This week's installment of This Week in Mayberry History by Randy Turner featuring Elinor Donahue. ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.wbmutbb.com/

Re: Camera Use in Mayberry
>>>Can you name a time on TAGS when someone was using a camera or else getting their picture taken?<<< I don't always respond to trivia questions, but when Ken asked about cameras and people taking pictures in Mayberry, my interest was piqued. As a photographer, I have a great interest in cameras. So I went through a list of the episodes and tried to think about which ones would apply. Like Ken, I thought there wouldn't be too many examples, but I came up with way more than I thought I would. I'm sure my list is not comprehensive, so I look forward to other instances I may have missed. Here are the ones I came up with: In "A Plaque for Mayberry," a photographer took a picture of the mayor and guests while they were waiting for Otis to appear to accept his award. In "Crime Free Mayberry," one of the would-be bank robbers took a picture of Andy with the supposed FBI agent (which is what tipped Andy off that they weren't who they claimed to be). In "Guest of Honor," a man with a press camera took a picture of Thomas A. Moody when he first drove up, just before Andy greeted him. In "The Great Filling Station Robbery," Barney rigged up a camera at Wally's to take a picture of the thief coming through the door. Of course, he wound up taking his own picture with it. In "TV or Not TV," Mr. Harvey brings a folding camera with him to the bank, and Mr. Jammel explains to Mr. Meldrim that they might want to take pictures of the vault. In "Taylors in Hollywood," Aunt Bee takes a picture of Andy and Opie in front of Caesar Romero's house (with Opie holding his newspaper). In that same episode, we see the movie camera being used to film "Sheriff Without a Gun" while Andy, Opie, and Aunt Bee are watching behind the scenes. In "The Hollywood Party," a publicist takes several pictures of Andy with actress Darlene Mason. In "The Legend of Barney Fife," Farley Upchurch from the newspaper brings a camera to the court house to take a picture of Barney in his uniform, but then Barney won't let him because he doesn't want the escaped convict to find out he's in town. In "The Foster Lady," we see the camera being used in the Taylor house to film Aunt Bee's commercial for Foster furniture polish. In "A Singer in Town," Goober brings his camera to the hotel and takes a picture of Keevy Hazelton, then has the hotel clerk use it to take a picture of him with Keevy. In the same episode, we see the TV camera being used for Keevy Hazelton's program when he sings "My Hometown." In "The Ball Game," Helen brings a camera to Opie's baseball game and takes a picture just as Opie is sliding into home plate, proving he was safe and not out like Andy called it. In "Big Fish in a Small Town," a newspaper man takes a couple of pictures of Howard with Old Sam in the tank outside the court house. In "Only a Rose," Andy uses his camera to take some pictures of Aunt Bee's Deep Pink Ecstasy rose that Opie broke while playing backyard football. In "Barney Comes to Mayberry," some people in the crowd awaiting Teena Andrews at the depot are carrying cameras, and you can see the flashes go off as Teena exits the train. In the same episode, at least two men take pictures of Teena as she exits the car at the movie premiere. In "Howard, the Comedian," we see the TV camera being used during the broadcast of "Col. Tim's Talent Time." In "Howard the Bowler," a man steps up with a camera to take the bowling team's picture after Howard secures the victory. In "A Trip to Mexico," Aunt Bee, Clara, and Myrtle all carry cameras while in Mexico. In the same episode, we see a display of cameras in Elmo's store (camera shop?) when Andy and Helen go to pick up Aunt Bee's pictures. In "Howard's New Life," during Howard's dream sequence, Andy is wearing a camera around his neck when he and Aunt Bee try to find him. In "The Mayberry Chef," we see the two TV cameras used to broadcast Aunt Bee's cooking program. I thought it was interesting that there were far more instances of cameras being seen in the color episodes than in the black and white ones. I also noted the variety of cameras that appeared in the episodes. There were press cameras, folding cameras, box cameras, 35mm cameras, and Instamatic-type cameras. I'm afraid I wasted -- er, spent -- more time than I should have coming up with answers, but it was fun to do. Thanks, Ken. people and belt and other stuff.
Nurse Mary Simpson was played byJulie Adams and Sue Ane Langdon. A Sam Browne belt is the utility belt that police officers wear. Barney just wears the belt, but Warren wears the belt and the shoulder strap. The belt is also used by the military, usually in the dress uniform, unless military police. Ken Anderson when do you start walking in the parades? Keep the stories coming. While watching 'Alias Smith and Jones' this past Saturday, Jailbreak at Junction City, noticed at least two TAGS alumni, Jack Albertson---played Bradford Taylor and Jon Lormer-played Tate Fletcher, Fletch Dilbeck and Parnell Rigsby. Sarah was played by 45 different actresses because otherwise she would never have had time to eat, go to the bathroom, take a bath, sleep, or go to church. Re: Actors and Characters
> Besides the characters that others have mentioned, the Mayor of Mayberry >was played by two separate actors. That doesn't count. The question was what character was played by more than one actor. Mayor Pike (the little fat mayor) and Mayor Roy Stoner are two characters played by two actors, not one character played by two actors.
