Earlier this evening I suddenly thought about how often the actor Allan Melvin appeared in Mayberry. I came up with 8 instances, all of which were well-portrayed IMHO. Then I went on and realized what an illustrious career he had with other shows. Remember him as Sam, boyfriend of Alice on Brady Bunch; how about Archie Bunker's good friend on All in the Family; and then the mess hall sgt on Gomer. He truly got around.
