According to information on IMDB.
This episode 8.23 was filmed at Whiteman Airport, just north of Burbank,
Ca. (WHP (KWHP)), located at 34-15-33.571 N / 118-24-48.359 W . You can see
how little the land around the airport was developed in 1968. The airport
is still active in 2022 and has 80,000 general aviation takeoffs and
landings each year. Looking at the photos of the airport, the mountains and
hills behind the shots in the show are evident.
The aircraft registration number N5955B is assigned to a 1956 Cessna 182A.
The show is set in Mayberry, a fictional town in North Carolina, but the
geography around the airport, including the smokestacks in the background,
clearly show that this is the San Fernando Valley.

Hey Robbie,

Thanks for that good information!I had forgotten the name of the
airport. It would be cool to have visited there when I was in CA. Maybe
someday I'll be back out there and can go and see it if I'm nearby.

To answer one of Holland’s questions in the previous digest, the airport Aunt
Bee used was Whiteman Airport in the San Fernando Valley which still looks much
the same today.

Mount Airy and Aunt Bee's landing strip

2023-04-07 Thread H S
Watching over the episode when Aunt Bea gets her pilots license.

I know it wasnt Mt Airy but what city did the show producer use for the town in
the scene ( where she wanted to look at her house while flying ) ?

And what was the name of the airplane runway that was used ? Was it even an
airport ? Looks like a private one that could
have used a few dollars from the county. Could have used the help of Otis and
his lawyer Neal Bentley but Otis has no reason to be on the tarmac unless
picking up a load of shine. Was the airstrip concluded in the show ( didnt
watch it all that time ) that it was in Mayberry ?
