TAGS names in book

2011-03-23 Thread Margaret Dishman
Due to many problems I am in a wheelchair and I read much of the time.
Recently while reading, I realized the two dogs in the story were named Earnest
T and Otis. I found this interesting. The next name was of a former teacher -
Mrs. Mendlebright. Then Ben Weaver was a lawyer and the main young lady's
first name was Emma!Needless to say, my imagination went to work on how funny
our TAGS folks would be as the ones in the book! I loved it - but it does show
many, many folks love TAGS,too.

Digest, 2-2-10, vol.11, issue 34

2010-02-02 Thread Margaret Dishman
David
Would love to have a Lum and Abner movie. I listened to them on the radio when
I was much younger. I remember I recognized the voice of Mr. Doakes before I
even looked at the tv when this episode came on. Their names were Lum Edwards
and Abner Peabody and they ran the Jot-'em Down store on radio. Mr. Doakes
owned the store in Mayberry.
Thanks for the stroll down memory lane once more.
Have a great Mayberry day,

Andy in Paris

2009-07-08 Thread margaret dishman
Andrew, one reference about Andy having been in Paris while in service is in A
FEUD IS A FUED in the first season. He said it while he was trying to get Mr.
Wakefield and Mr. Carter to shoot at each other, I believe. There may have
been another reference to it in anothe episode, I am not sure.

Mayberry is a small town but it must be a good place for doctors or they can't
make a living there. Has anyone besides me, noticed how doctors they talk
about? We don't see very many but, they sure do talk about them a lot. For
instance, they have two Dr. Burnsides. Mrs. Sprague says that Dr. Burnside is
as near as the phone when Howard dates Irene Fairchild. Then Opie refers to a
dentist by the same name when Andy buys the laundramat, as having said he would
need someone to take his practice when he retired. How many doctor names can
you remember from Mayberry seen or not seen?

Jim Nabors video

2009-05-22 Thread margaret dishman
Joe - I thank you so very much for sharing that video. It was great to see how
well he looks now considering his previous health issues, as well as seeing his
home and ranch in Hawaii. I don't think he looks his age for sure. I love his
singing voice and can remember the first time he sang on TAGS. I did not
believe he was actually singing but still love it. Andy Griffith sure
surrounded himself with talented folks and seems to have kept them as friends
due to his big heart. I, as a fan, am so glad he found so many for us to enjoy
through the years. Thanks, again.

tears for TAGS

2009-03-26 Thread margaret dishman
I always shed tears when Opie gets jealous of Peggy going fishing with he and
Andy, hears Peggy and Andy fussing, then has to confess to Andy what he did '
because someday, you may not want me, anymore, Pa'. The look on Opie's face
and Andy's explanation gets to me every time. There are others which touch me
but not as much as that one.

Thanks, again, Tom

2009-03-22 Thread margaret dishman
Thanks again, Tom, for sharing the Rest of the Story with us. I had never
heard that before and had not even known about it until I read about it here in
the Digest. So, that means a big Thank You to Allan, also, for starting the
Digest, right? Thank you Allan!

Seriously, that was so very good to hear about Andy's background and for Paul
Harvey to be the person doing it was super.

Allan, I do so enjoy reading the Digest every day. I leave it 'til last so I
can give it all my attention and thoroughly enjoy it all. Thank you for each
one you put up for us.

Old Time Radio: Lum and Abner

2009-03-03 Thread margaret dishman
Yes, Neil Bently, I do remember the old radio show 'Lum and Abner' . It was
set in Pine Ridge, AR. They ran the Jot'em Down Store, which sold anything you
might need and you could charge it all with no doubts you would pay your bill
eventually, anyway. Another very dear character was Cedric Weehunt, a very
simple, lovable, child-like man who kept Lum and Abner going. So many good
programs on the radio and your imagination worked overtime.

Don't think Andy and Barney would have worked on radio, tho. What do the rest
of you think about that?

Love the Digest!

TWINS

2009-02-01 Thread margaret dishman
Just a thought or question - has Ken's wife ever spoken to him? Maybe he wants
to hear the sound of her voice for a change. If that is the case, he may have
the chance now! And, maybe he won't hear the iron skillet coming - they are
very quiet when you use them as a weapon.

Best wishes, Ken

CJ's question about snails, etc.

2008-12-20 Thread margaret dishman
No way, CJ, would I eat snails since, like Andy I have stepped on many of them
- so, I, too, will pass on those. As for going yick putting worms on the
fish hook, I am so bright it would be my finger attached to the hook when I
finished so, no, don't want to do that either. Will be glad to see you Sunday
night on Life Lessons, however. Do love pizza however, if'n you're buying!

17 years

2008-12-02 Thread margaret dishman
Dear Allan - HAPPY 17TH ANNIVERSARY!

Thanks for hanging in there all these years. I can't imagine many of the
problems you have had but, you seem to have handled them all beautifully.
Haven't heard of you being involved in a citizen's arrest yet. However, maybe
Barney has learned to go by the heart instead of the book. Andy surely taught
him well.

So glad I recently found this part of Mayberry and all the friends here. Only
the grandest folk live in our town. Thanks to each one for all the
entertainment. I love it.
