my letter to TVLand

2008-09-08 Thread Tom Johnson
Thanks for sending the TVLand address. Here is a copy of the letter I just
sent to them:

Your station used to be my station of choice but I seldom watch it any more. I
think you are mistaken if you believe that shows such as Andy Griffith and Dick
Van Dyke do not interest the younger generation. I have two grandchildren that
can quote lines directly from Andy Griffith and the younger whistles the theme
song almost continuously. I have one grandchild that planned her summer
activities around the showing of Dick Van Dyke. Sadly, she did not have to
take that into consideration this past summer! These shows, and many others,
are timeless. I am disappointed that you are pandering to the lowest common
denominator and choosing not to provide the quality entertainment I have looked
to you for in the past. The proposed removal of the Andy Griffith Show will
insure that I do not chose your channel at all in the future.

Sincerely,
Judith J. Johnson

May your neighbors respect you,
Troubles neglect you,
The angels protect you,
And heaven accept you.

Allen Melvin

2007-05-22 Thread Tom Johnson
Reading the comments about Allen Melvin and the various roles he played reminds
me of the time he walked past me in the Honolulu Airport. Because I had seen
him so often and did not associate him with any particular character (this was
before Brady Bunch), it felt as if an acquaintance I did not expect to see
there had suddenly appeared. It was the strangest feeling.
