Mayberry weekend in NC August 24-25
If your in NC this weekend come enjoy Mayberry Events in two cities. Plus Barney will be at the BURN OUT on the back street with the hot rod cars. Then on Saturday night August 25 at 7pm come to Troy NC for the annual DARE Fundraiser. This is located at 210 Burnette Street, Troy NC We will have a variety show from the tributes Rodney and band performing along with Maggie Plus a silent auction!!! I got a call from a gentlemen needing a mayberry car in Roanoke Va. This involves an event with Betty Lynn and Maggie Peterson on Nov 12. I enjoyed another wonderful Mayberry Days and getting to spend time with the fans and stars. As usual I handled the emcee duties at Mayberry Idle and with20 spots available we had 19 to sign up. Each year this event has gotten bigger and bigger each year. So make plans to join us at idle next year. I would also like to congratulate my friend Dewey Lamb on the Mayberry Friendship Award. Dewey makes so many nice mayberry items for the silent auction at mayberry days and my event in troy NC during our DARE Fundraiser. If you have not met Dewey you need to cause he is one dedicated person who loves Mayberry. I cant think of anyone more deserving of this honor. Mayberry Nights in North Carolina coming up in August
THis is the County Clerk and Mother was dicussing with me how I need to get the information out on the show in August. It is time for the annual Mayberry Nights in Troy NC Saturday AUgust 27th 2011 but before we get to that we will be in Oakboro NC on Friday night the 26th for the Cruise In. Attending this year will Maggie Peterson "Charlene" along with her tv brother Rodney Dillard and his band the Dillard Band. Plus all the tributes: David "Mayberry Deputy" Browning Kenneth "Otis" Junkin Allan "Floyd" Newsome Phil "Ernest t Bass" Fox Bob "Briscoe" Mundy Jeff"Howard" Branch Alma"Aunt Bee" Venable Friday Augst 26 @ 8pm the mayberry crew will be in a parade downtown Oakboro NC. They have over 500 cars in town for the event. After the parade the stars will sign autographs. Saturday the annual Mayberry Nights will take place at 7pm with a silent auction of mayberry items donated by Dewey Lamb, Jeff Koontz, Jeff Branch, Jim Clark and various mayberry friends. Along with the auction the tributes will do a variety show followed by The Dillards and Maggie. This event benefits the Montgomery County DARE Program which I teach to the children in the schools. This past January I was named the 2011 DARE Officer of the year for the State of NC. Information from the desk of the County Clerk: Our friend Larry McPeak who played with the VW Boys up until he had to come off the road due to needing a kidney transplant just informed me the following information: If you have been to Mayberry Days and met Larry he is a wonderful musician, singer and song writer. His family band "The MCPeak Brothers" will be inducted to the Virginia Country Music Hall of Fame on Saturday Sept 18th. If you have ever been to Mayberry Days you have seen the VW Boys. Larry McPeak has battled health problems with his liver and now kidneys. He is trying to get a kidney and needs our help. I along with several bluegrass friends put a benefit together and we raised $3200 For Larry, but he needs alot more money.
