Perusing through the Roku Channels, I was excited to discover Murder in Coweta County was available. My husband is a huge Johnny Cash fan, and I LOVE TAGS, so it was the best of both worlds to us. However, we absolutely cringed when we saw Andy in his first scene and thereafter. It was so difficult to watch him as the bad guy. Johnny Cash did a fine job as the sheriff in a neighboring county, and, of course, June Carter Cash, was only recognizable to us by her voice giving her away. They did a fine job making her look bad! LOL! We watched the closing credits and were surprised to see that Cindy Knight played the murdered guy's widow. We had to go back and see her again, and sure enough, it was a very young Cindy Griffith. The movie was made in 1983, and that's the year she and Andy married. Wonder if they were married at the time of the movie. Anyway, I did spot one TAGS star, but there could have been more. In the courtroom scene over Andy's left shoulder, a guy in the crowd was Frank Myers, the guy who Mayberry ended up not owing any money to. I just watched " Murder in Coweta County " that starred Andy Griffith and Johnny Cash. It was made in 1983. It is an excellent movie and definitely a different type of role for Andy. Anyone who is familiar with Lewis Grizzard's writings would know he's the most famous person from Coweta County, specifically Newnan, GA. Born and reared there, and wrote about both the town and county in every book he published. I still miss that man who died in '94, a very, very big fan of Mayberry, and wrote often of it and our favorite characters when he was with the Atlanta Journal/Constitution. Lissen up here now...Coweta ain't called Cow Eaterbut Ky-eta. I learnt that sittin down in my woods watchin' one a'them video film things with the movie on it. Good show. Onliest one they shoulda had but didn't, he'd'a made a good deppity shurf, was Ernest T Bass! Now he could'a done some detectin' work and found out stuff real fast, seein' as how he lived in the woods and could talk to the aminals and stuff! And seems as if I keep hearin' chickens down in my woods. Reckon I got a chicken thief a'hidin' out down in there somewheres? The film is based on a true story told to me by a friend's father, who knew John Wallace. It was the first conviction of a white man for murder or an African-American in the State of Georgia. The movie is based on the book by the same name by Atlanta reporter Margaret Ann Barnes. Coweta County is just South of Atlanta and the county seat is Newnan, GA. I worked at the hospital for the County EMS in the 70's when I was in paramedic school.
