RE: Mayberry Idol: Pistol Packin' Barney fife

2006-06-10 Thread CAPT .
Pistol Packin' Barney Fife is a much better name for this song LOL

"Oh, My Darin' Barney Fife"
(Sung to the melody of "Oh, My Darlin' Clementine")

In a jailhouse, down in Dixie, fightin' crime and riskin' life,
Dwelled a sheriff and his buddy, pistol-packing Barney Fife.
Oh, my darin', oh, my darnin' oh, my darin' Barney Fife.
He's a deadly crime-stopper, what a copper Barney Fife.

Then one day there come a-ridin' two bad men to rob a bank.
But Fife was tricky, a dead-eye dickey. Now they're locked up in the tank.

(Andy added the following)
Oh, my Barney, oh, my Barney, had a jail and couldn't lock it.
Had one bullet for his pistol, had to keep it in his pocket

Mayberry Idol

2006-06-08 Thread Ann Kellett
Billy Justis brought up Barney's song "Oh my Barney," sung to the tune
of "My Darling Clementine."

Last week hubby and I were on his Harley riding through the Ozarks in
Arkansas. For some reason that song grabbed hold of my mind and wouldn't
let go!

In a jailhouse
Down in Dixie
Fightin' crime and risking life
Was a sheriff
And his buddy
Pistol packin' Barney Fife

Then one day
There came a-ridin'
Two bad men to rob a bank
But Fife was tricky
A dead-eye Dickie
Now they're locked up
In the clank

(Andy's addition:)
Oh my Barney
Oh my Barney
Had a jail
And couldn't lock it
Had one bullet
For his pistol
Had to keep it
In his pocket

For Mayberry Idol, how can we forget Barney's song "Oh my Barney", i believe it
was thelma lou, on the phone. i don't remember all the lyrics but it went
something like.

"In a jailhouse, down in dixie, fighting crime"and at the end andy,
sneaking into the courthouse sings.."oh my barney, oh my barney, had a jail
and couldn't lock it, had one bullet for his pistol, had to keep it in his
pocket"All of this was sung to the huckleberry hound tune "Oh my Darling,
oh my darling, oh my darling clemintine"

i think we should have a vote for originality!

I still say Bee and Clara singing "My Hometown" would give anyone a run for
their money. Also, what about Floyd singing "Hail to Thee, Miss Mayberry?"
Sounds like the makings of a masterpiece!!!

Or what about Barney singing Acapella? Or Barney and Otis singing when they
were gassed in the cell? Mayberry is full of talent!!!

Well, of course, Ernest T.'s "Old Aunt Mariah" song was wonderful, and so
was Otis' "Mother" song. But Otis really brought tears to my eyes during
the song "Go Tell Aunt Rhody" when he cried about the old grey goose dying.
I don't know if that counts as a full performance since he was too broken up
to finish. But then, another great Otis performance that made us cry from
laughing so hard was everyone's favorite "The Dipsy Doodle". I think that
was his finest performance. He even held that vase while he sang it! It
was beautiful!!! :) Lisa

I certainly think Aunt Bee should be included as a contestant for her stirring

Otis gave a beautiful performance of 'I'm Sorry I Broke Your Heart Mother'
early on in the "Idol" competition. This was great and it was narrowed down to
two contestants. He gave a gut wrenching rendering of 'Go Tell Aunt Rhody' in

have secured his spot as the winner. We'll have to wait on Judge Malcolm

Mayberry Idol

2006-05-24 Thread K . Darden
Back in March, our friend "Mayberrync" came up with a fun game he calls
"Mayberry Idol" over at the Mayberry Carnival:
http://p203.ezboard.com/fmayberryusafrm50

We have come up with a list of favorite songs and performers and will
soon begin our elimination process to begin the countdown to discover
just WHO will win the coveted title of MAYBERRY IDOL (enthusiastic
applause). Here is who we have so far, but I have a sneaking feeling
that we are leaving out some good songs (or at least some funny ones!)

Gomer Pyle "Santa Lucia."
Ernest T - Old Aunt Mariah
Barney - good ole' 14A
Rafe Hollister : "Look Down That Lonesome Road"
Aunt Bee and Clara - "My Hometown"
Briscoe Darling - "Low and Lonely"
Andy Taylor & The Darlings @ Charlene's Wedding - "Leaning On The
Everlasting Arms"
Andy and Barney - "Church in the Wildwood"
Ellie Walker - "Away in a Manger"
Floyd Lawson -- "Hail To Thee Miss Mayberry"
Charlene Darling-- "There is a Time"
Bernard Fife -- "A Capella"
Peggy McMillan (with Andy accompanying) -- "Down in the Valley"
Bobby Fleet and His Band with a Beat! Er... what did they perform?
Charlene Darling -- "Salty Dog"
The Darlings -- "Dooly"
Jim Lindsey, the Guitar Player --
Otis Campbell -- "I'm Sorry I Broke Your Heart Mother"

Please make your way over to the Mayberry Carnival and nominate a
favorite Mayberry performer and song. Then stick around the next few
weeks while we vote for the MAYBERRY IDOL!
