I have often wondered why the Mayberry Bank and Weaver's Department Store had Asa as a security guard and night watchman. I have done banking with many different banks, both in very small towns and a city of 60,000. Yet, I had never once seen a security guard in any of the banks in all my 74 years. So, it seems very unlikely that the Mayberry Bank would need a guard. I guess that explains why Asa slept while on guard.
I also have also shopped at virtually hundreds of department stores over those same 74 years, and again, I don't think any of them ever had a night watchman. Just something that has always been preying on my mind.
