Parley Baer

Another place to see Parley Baer is on The Dukes of Hazzard. He played Doc
Appleby. Also in an early episode Hal Smith (Otis) made an appearance.

I just received my tickets for the Mayberry Days Festival for this year. I
am really looking forward to attending this year.
Does anyone know if Jim Nabors has ever attended any Mayberry Days venues ?
I read a post here a few days ago
concerning Ron Howard coming to Mt. Airy, and I couldn't recall whether Mr.
Nabors had ever made an appearance there.

Jim Nabors has not been to Mayberry Days nor made a public appearance in
Mount
Airy. There have been three other Hawaiian residents attend: Dick Bettina
Linke and David Morris, but no others.

I did not see that - could you be confusing my Mayberry Days 2011 update
about
Ronnie Schell's show in September?

Yes, this is from Hope's special on October 25, 1963. It also included
members of the LA Dodgers and Jane Russell.

Watching the old 1995 movie Last of The Dogmen with Tom Berengersaw
an old guy in it who looked kind of familiar and sounded even more familiar.
Found out shortly it was none other than Mayor PikeHarley Baer!!
Or for the real old timers like me, Chester on the radio version of
Gunsmoke with Bill Conrad as Matt Dillon and Floyd

More on Parley Baer

2009-10-09 Thread weenie man

I had posted that his last movie was the 1995 Last of the Dogmen. He was 81
according to my machine and I have a GD machine. He looked about the
same..just older. It was sad to hear him using such foul language though. But
it wasn't Mayberry.

I enjoyed reading about the different things Parley Baer had done.  I got to
thinking after reading about himdid he by any chance do the voice of Ernie
the Keebler Elf?  Some other things I remember him doing was appearing on the
Young and the Restless back in the 90's.  He was part of a summer story line
whose focus was the abuse of elderly folks.  He also appeared in an episode of
Little House on the Prairie called Sweet Sixteen.

Those Mayberry folks surely do get around don't they? :)
I wonder what causes that?

Yes, Ernie the Keebler Elf and Mayor Stoner were one and the same!

Saw Mayor Stoner on an episode of Father Knows Best. He was playing a friend
of a friend. He was sounding more like his Chester Character from the
Gunsmoke radio show tho. I like him better that way. He was always a little
uptight as the Mayberry Mayor

Parley Baer was a beloved character actor all through radio and television.
On radio he also originated the role of Eb in the short-lived 1950 radio
comedy Granby's Green Acres, which inspired the TV version 15 years later.
Eb
was portrayed as being a little older than the one on the TV show. Baer
often told stories about how he rushed across town, taking taxis throughout
New
York to appear on four live radio shows in a single day. Up until his death
he came to many old time radio conventions and unlike his Mayor Stoner
persona, he was said to be very nice and very warm and loved to tell stories.

When he died, the two TV roles that got mentioned were Mayberry mayor, and
Ozzie Harriet's next door neighbor. But I'll always remember him as the
bureaucrat whose life keeps getting upset, perhaps even ruined, on The Addams
Family. He was such a perfect foil for them.
