Quiet Sam

2021-09-05 Thread Ken Anderson
About a month ago we had new neighbors move in across the street from us.
He really sticks to himself and I rarely see him outside. I
have tried talking to him a few times, but he rarely says anything. He is
always working in his garage after dark. I just found out his name, and
now I know why he is so quiet and mysterious. His name is Sam. So I call
him "Quiet Sam".

I don't know much about broken/fractured ankles or such, but I know a lot
about broken hearts from both personal experiences and from watching TAGS.
Some of the more well know broken hearts in Mayberry were:

Andy's broken heart when he broke up with Sharon Despaine.

Andy's broken heart when Ellie Walker went away.

Andy's broken heart when both Nurse Mary's went away.

Andy's broken heart when Peggy Macmillan went away.

Barney's broken heart when he found out at the class reunion that Thelma
Lou was married.

Barney's broken heart when he found out Tina Andrews/Irene Flogg was
engaged.

Aunt Bee's broken heart when Mr. Wheeler left in such a hurry.

Opie's broken heart when Sharon Porter didn't want anything to do with him.

Opie's broken heart when Mary Alice Carter broke her date with him to
Arnold's party.

Opie's broken heart when he released Wynken, Bynken, and Nod.

Floyd's broken heart when Madaline Grayson left.

Professor St. John's broken heart when he found out Aunt Bee was a swinger.

Ernest T's broken heart when he found out Helen was Andy's girl and he
would have to settle for her being his "mother figure".

Annabelle Silby's broken heart when Tom left her.

Those are some of the broken hearts that I can think of. I bet if you
folks but that bucket over your head and give yourself a good think you may
come up with even more broken hearts in Mayberry.

Something Else About "Quiet Sam"

2010-07-26 Thread PLV
I've been enjoying the speculations about how Barney got himself out to Sam's
farm. I had never thought about it, and appreciate those who have!

But here's something that has gnawed at my logical brain every time I have
watched this episode. After Andy has tried to phone Barney from the farmhouse
and has had Sam hang the phone up and drag him into his wife's bedroom - once
he determined it was a false alarm and he & Sam returned to the living room,
why didn't Andy go right back to the phone & ask Sarah to get Barney again?
Instead, he sat down and relaxed over a cup of coffee until Barney burst in.
Never made any sense to me, but like someone else said, I've always understood
that suspension of logic was often needed in order to fully enjoy the TAGS
experience!

Quiet Sam - How did Barney get there?

2010-07-20 Thread John Worsham
How did Barney get out to Quiet Sam's farm?

This is an excellent question and I think I've figured it out based on one of
the "contradictions" that appear in our hometown from time to time. We all know
that Barney bought his first car in Season Three from Hubcaps Lesh, but if you
look at the epilogue of the Runaway Kid episode in Season One, Andy and Opie
plan to push Barney's car in front of the fire hydrant.  So apparently Barney
had a car before the one that he bought.  This would have been the car that he
used to get out to Quiet Sam's farm.

I like to think that the car in the first season was passed down to Barney,
maybe given to him after an emotional striking of a match on his dad's rock. In
Season 3 the car that Barney gets from Mrs. Lesh is the first car that Barney
actually purchases for himself.

Anyway, that's my theory and I'm sticking to it.

Quiet Sam - How did Barney get there?

2010-07-19 Thread hyperauntjan1

Excellent observation - someone had the bucket on!

There ISN'T a way that Barney could have gotten there - unless this happened
around the time he had his motorcycle. Unless he borrowed Gomer's truck, but it
seems like Gomer would have come along.

Otis didn't have a car at the time and Floyd would have used his own car to get
up there. Aunt Bee didn't have a car at that time either.

We have to get to the bottom of this!

I just noticed something in the Quiet Sam episode I had never thought of
before. Here's the situationAndy gets the call from Sam to hurry out
to his house to deliver the baby. After Andy gets there, he phones Barney
to have him bring Aunt Bee, but Andy gets cut off by Sam, so Barney
assumes Andy got caught trying to call him, so Barney tries to form a possie
to
go out there. Barney shows up at Sams, and after the baby is born, he and
Andy go out on the porch. A minute later, Floyd arrives with the other
two guys. The question is: How did Barney get out there if Andy had the
squad car?Floyd and the "possie" don't show up until Andy and Barney go
out onto the porch.

Just a thought.

Peace and "Quiet"

2008-10-30 Thread chuck talley
Ken Anderson and the Mayberry Deputy (David) write about peace and quiet
similar to that of Mayberry. I understand why David can't feel that during
Mayberry Days in Mt. Airy because he is always on the go making enjoyment for
others, but I find my peace and quiet during each Mayberry Days.I've never been
to Oregon. I do all the "normal" things during those Mayberry Days (including
the concerts, the shopping, the Silent Auction and meeting new people) but the
feeling of being busy just isn't there - it's relaxation time I first learned
that when I saw Don Knotts, Ronnie Shell and Arlene Golanka at the Squad Car
Rendezvous and in "concert" in 1996 in Bedford, Ohio. Driving home, I realized
that I felt no tension, no anger, perfect calmness, the feeling that the world
was still OK and the lowest blood pressure of my life. That is what Mayberry
does for me so thanks to all who keep the tradition alive. The Gollywobbler in

Boy, do I agree about the noise level of everyday life? (except for the
contemporary worship service - I love those!).

My son will often ask me?how I can watch the same episodes of TAGS and still
enjoy them. I think it's because it counteracts the noise and stress that I am
subjected to all day. I recently heard a song called "If the World Had A Front
Porch"? which captures this sentiment well. It was performed live by a country
western artist, but I don't know who he was.
( It was at a rally)

After a while with all this noise, I wonder if we'll all turn into

Peace and Quiet

2008-10-28 Thread Ken Anderson

Oh how I yearn for the peace and quiet of our beloved Mayberry. Seems there
is no where to go without being confronted with noise. I went to the
dentist this past week and sat in the waiting room with a radio playing rock
music in the background. As soon as I sat in the dentist chair the
hygienist handed me a set of headphones for the radio. I went to the
hospital to volunteer and in every waiting room a TV was on spouting all
kinds of noise. I went down to the hospital cafeteria for lunch and wouldn't
you know that someone just had to put money in the juke box and I ate with a
very loud country song blasting away. On Sunday I went to church to do some
meditation and reflection only to be welcomed by our Contemporary Worship
Team ( I call them the Happy Clappers) with their drums beating and guitars
amplified throughout the sanctuary. I stopped to do some grocery shopping
on the way home and was once again welcomed by loud music from the speakers
all over the store and constant announcements for price checks. We went out
to eat at our Texas Roadhouse and the noise was so loud we could not even
converse with our friends at the other side of the table. No wonder each
day I slip in a TAGS DVD and watch Andy and Aunt Bee sitting on their porch
of a warm supper night. A week ago I went with my brother up to his 26
acres of woodland where I was sure I could enjoy some real peace and quiet.
Not that was too much to ask for because no sooner were we there when out
came the two big ATV's and up and down the trails they went. I wish we had a
little gas station with a bench and a pop machine where I could walk to each
night and sit and visit with my friends.

Quiet weekend..some responses

2008-09-21 Thread GRITTON, JOE A (ATTOPS)
Looking at the Archives it looks like folks haven't had much to say this
weekend. I wonder if the Sister's have the line tied up again talking
about feet falling asleep.

I just got a chance to look at Cheri's Pictures of her Mayberry Night.
Very Cool. Wish I could have been there.

I think "Mayberry After Midnight" was kind of a sensational term used
for things that happened after dark, or perhaps were gossiped about
after the kinds went to sleep.

Things that I can think of that may have happened after midnight:

Otis checking himself in jail after a night of imbibing
Andy or Barney on Patrol due to an escaped prisoner or another unusual
event.
The Darling Boys snoring real loud
People that worked late at the pickle factory or somewhere just sitting
on their porch for a spell to relax
Warren Sleep walking
Old Ben stealing cows (was that his name)
Gomer or Howard doing their nightly hygiene routine after a late date
Clifford just putting his guitar away after a late gig

OK what might you add?
