I watched a movie called A Holiday to Remember with Connie Sellecca and Randy Travis and other well known personalities. A recently divorced woman and her daughter return to the hometown in SC where her X boyfriend still lives the town was Mayville but it was (mistakenly ha ha) mentioned a couple of times as “Mayberry” I searched the credits for a connection to TAGS but I didn’t find one,not that I’m an expert by any means anyway I thought it was cute John 3:16 Thelma Anderson ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.wbmutbb.com/

On Make Room for Daddy this morning, Pat Buttram appeared as a character named Harvey Bullock. The name should ring a bell as the real Harvey wrote 31 episodes of TAGS and another 21 episodes of Gomer Pyle. He also wrote 8 episodes for Danny Thomas in MRFD although not this particular show. An lot of TAGS connections here. Can't help but wonder if this was an inside joke on ol' Harvey by his fellow writers or maybe even Thomas himself. dan ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.wbmutbb.com/

We all know Sam Edwards (Lester Scobey) was one of Jack Webb's stable of actors in his 1967 iteration of Dragnet. In an episode titled The Squeeze, Sam appears twice but never in person. First, a photo is shown of a potential victim by the name of Paul Carter. It is Sam. Later, there is audio tape of dialog with Carter. And whose voice do they use? None other than Sam's. I thought it interesting that Webb took the time to use an actual photo of the actor on the tape. It should also be noted that Sam receives no screen credit for his work. dan --- This email has been checked for viruses by Avast antivirus software. https://www.avast.com/antivirus ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/
Andy Griffith sighting (sort of)
I've been enjoying the new series Better Call Saul on AMC. It's a spinoff/prequel of Breaking Bad. Anyway, in this week's episode of Better Call Saul, the main character, Jimmy (a struggling lawyer), hopes to increase his business by making himself more appealing to senior citizens. How does he do this? By watching an old videotape of Matlock, and attempting to copy Matlock's look. So in a roundabout way, Andy Griffith appears in an episode of Better Call Saul. Last night I was listening to an old time radio show, The Great Gildersleeve. It was the episode of 18 October 1942, where Gildersleeve is first appointed to his job as Water Commissioner. Any Who, Gildersleeve is sitting in the barber chair in Floyd's Barber Shop just finishing up his hair cut. Floyd (Munson not Lawson) asks Gildersleeve if he wants a hair tonic. Gildersleeve asks What do you have? Floyd says I've got Lucky Tiger, Wildroot, and here is a new one Roses of Picardy. Gildersleeve picked the Roses of Picardy.Aunt Bee wasn't there to tell Floyd Even I am old enough to remember that one. The other day I saw on an Animaniacs cartoon episode (HUB channel), an animated depiction of one of Mayberry's own leading citizens! The Animaniacs in Boot Camping end up in boot camp instead of summer camp. Wakko is at the barber shop and while in the chair, pulls all these stunts and gags on the barber -- Floyd Lawson! The look, voice, mannerisms, all Floyd. Even a reference is made about Opie. Cool!! ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/

I was watching Batman on MeTV yesterday and they had the Shame episode on. There was a blonde woman in there that I didn't recognize until I saw her name in the credits. It turned out to be Joan (Alma Parker) Staley who was Don Knotts' love interest in The Ghost and Mr. Chicken. Apparently she dyed her hair or wore a wig for the Batman episode. ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/

I've been attending a Methodist church here in Murrells Inlet, SC for the last few years. I grew up Catholic so most of the songs sung in church are unfamiliar to me. But imagine my surprise and delight this morning when one of the hymns was none other than Leaning on the Everlasting Arms. Kinda expected to see Briscoe, Charlene and the boys at any moment.
