Pics from the various Mayberry Days events will eventually be posted at http://www.mayberrydays.com. It will probably be a few weeks or longer since the photographer is working disaster relief in eastern NC. Hopefully other people on the digest took photos to share. RE: DVDs and TAGS stuff on ebay
Thanks Paul, for the DVD and memorabilia info! On Season 4, some of the laugh tracks were missing, and then some were restored; however, on the replacement DVDs sent to me by Universal, there are still some missing. Does anyone out there know if the new complete box set has fixed this problem? I wonder about those ebay items. There is an actual barber brush used by Howard McNear in the $200 price range. As to authenticity...how would a person actually prove it? Do ya think they could get DNA samples for those tea glasses, by some of the boys down at the lab? :) Maybe they dust for lip prints...hmmm... TAGS stuff on ebay
This week on ebay, someone is offering a chair purported to be the actual chair that Don Knotts used on the Mayberry Court House set. It does look like the real chair, but of course there may be a thousand chairs exactly like it out there. The seller's asking price is $20,000. Another seller is selling a set of rusted keys that they insist are the actual Mayberry jail cell keys (because they have a tag on them that says so), however they do not look anything like the FLAT metal keys seen on the show. Also included in this auction is a glass purported to be a screen used prop from the Bluebird Diner. The bidding on these is over $500. Another seller is offering a bunch of iced tea glasses, advertised as Barney's iced tea glass, Opie's iced tea glass, Aunt Bee's iced tea glass, etc. They were asking $699 but didn't get any takers so they've relisted them at $217 each. Of course, they have certificates of authenticity that PROVE these were really used on the show. Even if on the off chance these are real screen used props, how in the world would they know which character used which glass? It's just silly. Now, if anybody wants a real Andy Griffith Show collectible, I've listed a scarce 1962 TAGS coloring book on ebay. These don't turn up for sale very often, and this one is in really good condition. Take a look if you've a mind to (my ebay screen name is squadcar.) If it sells, I will donate 50% of the final price to Allan's Two Chairs No Waiting podcast.
