"Picnics 29 cents". ?Any idea what that would mean?

Growing up in NC, we came to know "Picnics" as a short for Picnic Chickens,
which is the same as Fryer Chickens. They were especially for cutting up
and frying to take along on picnics. Usually they were slightly smaller
hens than full-size whole fryers. Keep in mind I'm trying to remember back
from 50+ years ago.
