Barney's engraved watch
We will probably never know if the watch was engraved with five or 5.If someone had really wanted to mess with Barney's head, the engraving could have appeared as 5ive.Just a thought. Barney's watch
My take is that the numeral 5 was engraved. Otherwise, when Barney looked at the back, if it had said Five he would have blurted out They never spell my name right. He might have assumed they meant Fife. Ken, I am perplexed about your question on what to put on your new watch. I am thinking back on the show and how everything was said. I think it said 5. What a great question and never thought about it before. Good luck. You just don't get a watch like this... Why we watch TAGS
I just read Mr. Anderson's moving story about why he watches TAGS. He mentioned that the show brought back so many beautiful memories from his own similar childhood. I guess I grew up across the tracks from Mr. Anderson at a time and a place that was the polar opposite of his town. In my neighborhood abandoned or burned-out buildings were our playground. Instead of Foley's, we had Danny's, complete with barred windows and security gate. Instead of crickets chirping, we heard cries in the night, and we were taught that when we heard gunfire we were to hit the ground and hope. In my town little Leon's gun would have been real. We had fun girls in our town, too, but the wrong kind. There were no little boys or little girls in our townwe were all forced to become men and women when our ages were still in the single digits. That world is miles away from where I am now, but the battle scars (literally) remain. And that is exactly why I watch TAGS. Andy and company give me a daily dose of what can be, so I can temporarily forget what was. So, Mr. Anderson, I'm very jealous of your upbringingand very happy for you, too. We come from different worlds, but we're both neighbors in Mayberry.
