[wdvltalk] Laptop networking problem.
Hello Everyone: Months ago I bought a Toshiba laptop, the OS is winXP home. I connected it to my home network easily and has been working well. The other PCs are win2K. Toshiba laptop pre-installed NAV(Norton Anti-Virus) and only for 90-day free. It is now expired and so I un-installed the NAV. But: After uninstalling the NAV, the laptop doesn't work again in the network! It neither is a member of the network nor connecting to Internet. Who knows the cause and the way to solve the problem please tell me. Thanks! -BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 Did NAV uninstall cleanly? Looks like it's left something there that's interfering with your networking. It may help to remove all networking components (NIC driver, protocols etc), reboot then add them again - I've known that to solve a lot of problems. Can the machine ping itself on 127.0.0.1? Can it ping itself on the IP address it should use on the network? Can it ping another machine on the network? If none of those work, I'd definately recommend re-installing the networking stuff. If you have the NAV installation discs, it may also be worth installing it again, then uninstalling it again to see if it gets it right this time. Checked your site in Konqueror 3.1.2 and Mozilla Firebird 0.6, both on my Slackware 9.0 Linux box. Site looks nice and works very well in both. I think the pastel blue shade used is a good choice considering the subject - it is a relaxing colour in itself. Also like the way you've styled the contact form - it looks like standard form elements in Konqueror, but the fancy styling works great in Firebird. Also, I think the FAQ's page could use a little space between the end of each answer and the next question - should make it a little easier to read. I don't know how valuable this feedback is to you since it's not from a mainstream browser/OS combination, but it's proof that your design works well on other systems (well done!). Too many people design for IE and ignore everything else. [wdvltalk] Mac browsers
Hi list, Our office is finally getting a Mac, so I can test the website on it and see what goes wrong. Not sure if I am going to like what I will see, but at least I *will* be able to see it :-) Which browsers should I ask the Mac guy to install on it? I know it already has Safari and IE 5.2. I was thinking of asking for Mozilla, Firebird, Konqueror, and Opera. Am I missing any? (The Mac's operating system is OS X, in case that puts limits on the browsers that can be installed.) [wdvltalk] RE: Mac browsers
I don't think there are any major rendering differences between Mozilla and Firebird. Personally I think one or the other would be sufficient. All I've got on my testing Mac is IE 5.2, Safari and Mozilla. From other lists Chimera and iCab seem to be fairly popular. I recently repartitioned my testing Mac so I could install OS 9 but haven't finished reloading software yet. The OS X specific build of Mozilla is Camino http://www.mozilla.org/projects/camino/ (answer to Firebird). I found http://www.hut.fi/u/hsivonen/os-x-browsers.html which has a Mac OS X Browser comparison chart. That might help figure out what to install.
