RE: [wdvltalk] Subscriptions

2006-05-17 Thread Dan Parry
I've had similar... my theory was that a bot was posting to the page
externally (eg using PHP's cURL)

Again the only advice I can offer is server-side validation and as it's ASP
I'm of no use at all lol

Sorry

Dan

Subject: Re: [wdvltalk] Subscriptions

I have been fiddling with the script and tried sending the subscribe
form with JavaScript turned off. The form goes through but it comes out
like so:
Subscriber information:
*Name:
E-mail address:

*When the form came through before, it just had:
Subscriber information:

I am wondering if that means that it is a robot that just found the
script and sent it? Why would the name and e-mail address fields not be
in there if they appear in the JavaScript-turned-off submission? Am I
making sense?

[wdvltalk] spam beats anti-spam

2006-05-17 Thread Joseph Harris

Is this good or bad?

Web attacks end anti-spam effort
A series of web attacks by spammers have forced a security firm to end an
initiative to curb junk mail.
Israeli start-up Blue Security used a variety of tactics to make spammers
clean up the lists of addresses to which they sent junk mail.
The firm also automatically filled in forms on spammers' websites to get
names taken off the mailing lists.
But escalating attacks from spammers annoyed by the initiative's success has
led to its closure.
