[wdvltalk] [OT] Where could I find more about this email?

2004-12-10 Thread Dianne Reuby
I hope some of you more experienced email users can help me. I get this
email every now and then:
Return-Path:
From: admin
Subject: ATTENTION: Your mailbox is over the high water mark, 75% based on
amount stored!!
Date: Fri, 10 Dec 2004 09:23:15 +
Message-ID: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Your mailbox is over the high water mark.
Please delete some messages from your mailbox!
That is the full headers I've included! I run two web sites, and it doesn't
appear to be forwarded from my web host. It comes to my personal email
address - my ISP email inbox isn't full, as I empty it every time I check
my mail (manually, my ISP is rubbish!) I'm emptying my email boxes on my
web sites regularly (I only just discovered that all replies to my
autoresponders are stored on my hosts server until I delete them!)

So is it just some spam? It doesn't seem to be selling anything, so if it's
spam it's pointless!

TIA for any light on this.

.htaccess files are for making configuration changes to Apache - perhaps
you're thinking of robots.txt?

Sorry - having a brain-strain day! I really did mean robots.txt, thanks for
that link.

[wdvltalk] Noindex: test pages

2004-10-19 Thread Dianne Reuby
Hi,
Does including noindex and/or nofollow on a page have the same effect as an
.htaccess file? I'm thinking of test pages that I don't want indexed by the
search engines.

TIA

[wdvltalk] Checking email addresses in forms

2003-11-12 Thread Dianne Reuby
Hi all,

I've got several forms on my site, which allow potential customers to
contact me. Although I ask for phone numbers, for most of them their email
address will be the initial contact point. I know I can check that they've
entered a valid email address by checking for the at sign, but is there a
way to check that the contents of the email address and the confirmation
email address boxes are the same?

TIA,
Dianne Reuby

[wdvltalk] Re: Video WebCast

2003-08-26 Thread Dianne Reuby
I've found this discussion interesting, mainly because here in the UK most
education authorities are advising schools to ban the use of video and
still cameras at school events, because of the legal repercussions. They
ask that the parent of every child in every video/photo give written
consent before their children are filmed/photographed. Some parents are
hotly in favour -I don't want my child filmed by parents I don't know.
Others think it's going too far - Why shouldn't I film my child's football
match/ netball match/ sports day?

Public sports centres, especially swimming pools, are already banning photo
phones as well as cameras.

[wdvltalk] Re: OT: WinXP Home Edition

2003-01-31 Thread Dianne Reuby
I'm interested in this too, as I'm considering a new PC with XP.

What I need to know first is if
Microsoft has to be contacted everytime anything on the machine is
updated, or
just when XP is reinstalled? If so, is this as much hassle as I've read?

What's this? Does this mean when you have to re-install after a crash, etc?
If so, hope MS have got a *huge* store for their emails, they'll be inundated!

[wdvltalk] Re: Stupid XP Home

2002-09-29 Thread Dianne Reuby

Hi,

Could you clarify this for me?
Well it appears that XP home will not connect to a domain, it is for
workgroups only.

Are there different versions (or settings) of XP home - for stand-alone
PC's and for workstations (networked PC's)?

My husband has recently had his stand-alone PC upgraded, and also had XP
home installed. Now it will only go online with Win98. Under XP it dials,
connects, and locks up completely. Having followed James Jarvis's posts,
I'm wondering if there's a simple explanation for our problem.

Thanks,

Dianne Reuby

[wdvltalk] Font size problem using pre

2002-08-28 Thread Dianne Reuby

Hi,

I've had permission to use an article on my website, so I saved the page,
opened it in NoteTab, striped the html to give me the plain text. That way
I didn't have to type it, and I was sure not to make any illegal changes by
mistake.

I pasted the text into my web page template. The text includes some DOS
commands, so I've used the PRE tag to display them.

They display as really tiny - too small to read. I added a font tag, with
SIZE=+1, and now they are huge. How do I get a happy medium? I tried BIG
instead of FONT, but my html checker doesn't like that.

Thanks,

Dianne Reuby
