I know there are hosting services that charge only $5 per month but I understand some are fronts for spam outfits and other unsavory characters. I use 123ehost.com. They charge $50 (US) a year (comes out to about $4 a month) with a $25 setup fee. I've been using them for about four years, and see no signs that they're a front for anything :) Their customer service is pretty good (including live chat, which I have used a number of times), and they include the standard extras like cgi support for perl and python, frontpage support, php, apache asp, ssi, mysql, etc. Amanda Birmingham Web Application Developer (Standard disclaimer: I get nuffin' for recommending these guys.) Thanks Amanda. I've have several good leads for a hosting service for this group -- and a nice list to hang on to for the future. I find my clients often want a very small web site -- brochure type site of 5 pages-- and getting a good, stable and inexpensive hosting service can be critical. Web site development is not my primary business-- but rather marketing. However, I find many clients come to me because they think they need a web site and don't know how to get started-- and of course they have small budgets and even smaller understanding of what it takes to get a site up. I am saving all these recommendations --I know they will come in handy. http://www.1and1.com/ is where my personal site is. They're pretty cheap and seem pretty reputable to me. I belong to a group of singers and it occurred to me that my little group has no web site! What an oversight! The web site would be a great place for me to try an all CSS layout. The stumbling block is the cost-- this singing group plays for senior centers and rest homes. We only have a few paying gigs and use that money for props/music/etc. I have my own web site but that is for my marketing business and the URL would be very cumbersome if I were to tack on a page or two for the singers. Anyone have a good idea of how to get a site hosted for very little? We wouldn't need much - a few pages to list our repertoire, singer bios, how to contact us, history of the group, some photos. I would like us to have our own domain name -- that cost would not be an issue.
