[wdvltalk] Re: OT - Survey Results are in - WAS Domain name survey - Pls help!

2003-07-19 Thread Ravi Jayagopal
Hi David,

I truly wanted the list's opinion - as
web-surfing, programming geeks - and individuals.
And not really an expert's opinion.

To contradict my own request, I have to say
that getting traffic to a site truly doesn't
have to do any more with the domain name.
I know many sites with rather long, weird,
highly forgettable domain names that are
making milli`ons of dollars in sales.
My own site WebmasterInABox.net is tremendously
successful (by my own initial expectations)
in spite of being a .net and not a .com
domain name.
Traffic can be "driven" to any web site
using the right techniques.
Doesn't really have to be a good name.

So, I truly wanted the opinion from
you guys.

Ravi,

That may be because you need to talk to Internet branding experts, and we
are not - as far as I know - those people.

You might try reading books on this topic if you can't find a suitable
consultant. There are a few about.

David

The book I mentioned is The 11 Immutable Laws of Internet Branding, by Al
and Laura Ries.

But search somewhere like Amazon for 'internet branding' and you'll find
quite a number of books on this topic.

-> 1SiteAutomation.com
That must have been something coming up late on the outside rail - I don't
even recall it being on the list when I voted. Are your bets covered by
having OneSiteAutomation.com registered too on this? I'm sure there's a
need for a research paper on Psycholinguistics of Domain Names
As it happens, a father and daughter team has written about this topic, but
I can't find their book at the moment.

David

Don't feel bad the moderator of another list put up a poll on who useful
people found one of the articles. He got 6 responses from a list with 1400
members and he is the one who decides who gets to post.

Anyways, I got only 13 votes, 1 was my own,
2 were from my colleagues at work.

So, technically, I got only 10 votes from ALL of my own friends, and the
WDVL group.

Very disappointed.

Guys,

I know you're gonna kill me for this.

Anyways, I got only 13 votes, 1 was my own,
2 were from my colleagues at work.
So, technically, I got only 10 votes from ALL
of my own friends, and the WDVL group.
Very disappointed.

But hope floats ;-)

I finally decided on the following name:

-> 1SiteAutomation.com

Phew! Now I can breathe easy :-)

That was a touch decision to make.
Ended up registering about 10 domain names
in the process. Wasted a few dollars.
But I have plans for those other domains ;-)
I'll give then away for free to my top performing
affiliates once my web site is up and running.
Good idea, huh? :-)
Thanks everyone who voted.

Appreciate your time and effort.

Look forward to anything you may have to say
about my final choice.
