Poking at it slowly. The horizontal menu issue comes from
menu_back_off.jpg being only 100px wide so it is too short for some of
the links.

Thanks for looking at it again.

I rebuilt this website from the first version (which someone else
created) - the site took 10+ seconds to load on DSL! I used the original
graphics, etc. but did rework the Flash.

Any idea on the errors that pop up in IE?

Thanks,
Riva

Still don't see any errors thrown in IE6. Only problem I see are with
the horizontal menu. Nothing with the Navigate. I don't see any jumps.
The top level item slides a fraction left as the submenu appears but
that looks good not at all like an error.Nothing is jumping at all.

It a very good remake of the site. Much cleaner code.

 Hi all,

I did a website for someone but find two persistent problems that I cannot
figure out. One is on the drop down menu on the left side - it is a
Slashdot-type menu, but the menu items that don't have sub items still
drop a little when clicked on. Second is the errors I get (in IE). I tried
using a JavaScript debugger but got nowhere. Any help would be greatly
 appreciated.

The page (only this page) is here:
 http://www.legacyfoundation1.org.

Browsers used: IE6, FF3.0.1, Opera 9.51 all on xp. There is a firewall
which sometimes causes funky results so I wouldn't worry too much here
unless somebody else confirms what I see.

Don't see a drop. The left Navigate items move a little because of
the change in the icon but that's a left-right movement. In FF the
menu doesn't reset if you go to Adversity and return via the back
arrow. Does fine in the other two.

But there are a number of other issues. The foundation1 page, that you
asked about has problems with the tabs for the horizontal main
menu. The headings such as Our Philosophy are longer than the tabs so
the background showson the right end. The tabs don't cover the entire
width of any of the spaces between the vetical separators. Compared to
other pages the text is too far left. And none of the tabs produce
the sub-menu in IE6. The other two browsers to get the submenu.

In Opera, the flash next to the logo is actually below the logo but
above the horizontal menu. It creates a whole new space for itself.
The mahagony box (if that is the color) is there; it is just empty.

In FF the submenus apprear across the face of the main horizontal menu
on pages other than your problem page.

Companing code on the problem page and others is interesting. Only 11
html errors and most of those are flash related (which says all that
needs to be said about flash and standards) and 4 css error. Two of
the errors involve the use of illegal negative padding on div.sdmenu
and div.sdmenu div a. Killing both seems to make no visible difference
in FF. Can't be sure of the effects elsewhere.

formmail! Oh I hope it is at least the more secure version not Matt's.

Deprecated elements. Tables.

The DW generated page Our Philospohy on the other hand has 231
errors and 33 warning for html and 4 css errors. Just hate it when the
errors are intricate enough to make it all work; including the 5 style
sheets courtesy of DW.

Can't find a quick solution to the horizontal bar. I'm curious to see
if this is just the firewall here that causes it or if others see the
same issues. I'll check later when I don't have the firewall to
contend with.
