[wdvltalk] Thunderbird issue
Hi all, I have been using Thunderbird for a while and I am very happy with it. I have noticed though that some e-mails I receive have the wrong date on them. I have a few in my inbox that are dated 2/20/2005. Any idea on how to fix this? I have searched the Thunderbird forums, etc. with no luck. There's not much you can do other that notifying them about it. -R'twick The WDVL Discussion List from WDVL.COM To Join wdvltalk, Send An Email To: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] or use the web interface http://e-newsletters.internet.com/discussionlists.html/ Send Your Posts To: wdvltalk@lists.wdvl.com To change subscription settings, add a password or view the web interface: http://intm-dl.sparklist.com/read/?forum=wdvltalk http://www.wdvl.com ___ You are currently subscribed to wdvltalk as: archive@jab.org To unsubscribe send a blank email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] To unsubscribe via postal mail, please contact us at: Jupitermedia Corp. Good to know. Thanks. [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: This is only peripherally related to the initial topic, but I was reminded by this of some strange behavior I experienced with Outlook Express some months back. For no discernible reason, my setting to save sent messages to the Sent Items folder began to be ignored. The setting was still active, but nothing was being saved. After some head-scratching and Googling, I came across an entry in a forum that said to check the system date. Sure enough, somehow my system date was set to the following month. I'm sure that I had not done it, but had no idea what might have done so. In any event, once I reset the date to the proper month and day, immediately my outgoing messages began to be saved to Sent Items again. Apparently OE balks at saving a message with a transmission date which has not yet occurred. Just a heads up in case anyone happens to encounter this behavior in the future. No offense, but that doesn't seem to be logical. How will OE know the date is in future? Only way for it to know the date is to check system date and so it will find the transmission date is today's date (same as the system date), unless, OE has a builtin ntp client feature and checks date against a ntp server (or has some secret code that checks date/time on a microsoft server)? Re: [wdvltalk] Thunderbird issue
Ya got me. Hey, I said it was strange behavior. :-) You're entirely correct, IF OE looks at the system date only. However, if you do a right-click, Properties|Details|Message Source, you will see that every message has header information including date and time. It is conceivable that it gets the time information from the SMTP server as part of the transaction. As I say, I don't precisely what the software does in the case of mismatched local clock and server time, but apparently it makes OE ignore that setting. Come to think of it, that was 5.5. I wonder if it still does it under 6.0... Work day's over, but I'll give it a test tomorrow and see what happens.
