[web2py] Re: Hassle-Free Application Hosting?

2011-01-24 Thread Solomon Hykes
Hi all,

I'm the co-founder and CEO of DotCloud. We're eager to make it as easy
as possible to deploy web2py on our service! I'd like to offer 2
things:

1. Beta invites for anyone on this group who is interested. Just
mention the web2py mailing list in our registration form (http://
dotcloud.com)

2. All the help you need putting together a dotcloud on web2py
tutorial. If you're interested in participating, let me know and we'll
get started.

As for requirements.txt and wsgi.py, it's pretty straightforward -
you'll find more information in the docs [1] but I'll be happy to
elaborate privately if needed.

I hope this can be helpful to the web2py community.

All the best,
Solomon Hykes

 Hello Bruno,

I just got a beta account ondotcloud. I saw here that you've been
experimenting with the service and I'm wondering whether you have any
advice for installing and running web2py in that environment. I've
read their docs, but they mostly describe a django installation. For
web2py, it seems that we might want to create one service for the
administration app and separate services for each deployed
application, but I'm not sure. I'm also a bit confused about what info
needs to be included in the wsgi.py and requirements.txt config files.

 Any advice would be appreciated.

 Thanks...Jeff

I am playing with free beta ondotcloud(this will be great).

for free that runs web2py I just know one (shared limited plan is free):

http://web2py.alwaysdata.net/examplesBTW, I do not know any other that
  works like heroku.

Are there any application hosting services for web2py that are similar
to the following (for other frameworks):

   Heroku for Ruby on Rails
   Djangy for Django
   Pantheon for Drupal

I know that it's possible to use GAE for hosting, but there are some
limitations to going that route. I understand that Webfaction offers
hosting, but it's just normal shared hosting, right? It would be great
if there was a fire-and-forget application hosting option for web2py
just like Heroku or Engine Yard.

2011-01-24 Thread Jérôme Petazzoni
Good news, everyone! According to recent testing, web2py runs on
DotCloud like a charm.

I've put up a little tutorial:

http://docs.dotcloud.com/static/tutorials/web2py/

It's still very basic and certainly needs to be refined, but I hope
it's sufficient to get started.

Best regards,

Is there a demand for a Heroku-like service in the web2py community?
If there was a critical mass, I wonder if someone/firm could be
convinced to build out this type of offering.

I sent a message to some services that are still in private beta, they
asnswered that they are going to support web2py.

http://stable.io/

http://stable.io/http://www.ep.io/

http://www.ep.io/I am in contact with the owners of nodegrid to include
web2py deployment, would be great to push my mercurial repository directly
into a running app.
