I also think the problem is the rpc client code, since the request output looks the same in both cases. Why do you create a new Transport instance instead of leaving the default value? Have you read the request data processed by the web2py service? You could send it to a log, store it in db or just print it on the standard output (in development) with the print command for comparing the strings.
