[webkit-dev] Google Summer Of Code 2010

2010-02-23 Thread Jeremy Moskovich
WebKit participated in GSoC 2 years ago, I was
wondering whether there was interest in doing so again this year?

I've started a wiki page to collect ideas and potential mentors for this
year: https://trac.webkit.org/wiki/Google%20Summer%20of%20Code%202010

The deadline for registering a mentoring organization is March
12th,
so we need to decide by then where we stand.

Copious apologies if I'm getting this wrong, but from what I understand -
apart from one outstanding contributor, the WebKit community didn't have a
very positive experience last time around.

Perhaps if we try taking a more conservative approach this year. Both in
terms of our criteria for accepting students and picking projects closer to
the current core functionality of WebKit [rather than implementing totally
new specs], that we might have a better experience.

Best regards,
Jeremy

I'd love to see something related to MathML on this list but I'm not
a committer. I'd need a committer volunteer but I'd be happy to be
directly involved.

The deadline for applying for GSoC is a little over a week away now (March
12th).

If you are interested in mentoring or would like to propose a project,
please write those up on the wiki
page
.

Best regards,
Jeremy

Re: [webkit-dev] Google Summer Of Code 2010

2010-03-11 Thread Jeremy Moskovich
Tomorrow is the deadline for registering as a mentoring organization. There
are currently only 2 mentors signed up on the wiki -
https://trac.webkit.org/wiki/Google%20Summer%20of%20Code%202010 .

Personally I don't think it makes sense to enter unless we have broad
support in the WebKit community.

If you have strong feelings on the subject or think you'd like to sign up as
a mentor, now is the time to speak up. Otherwise I'm not going to enter us
this year (which doesn't mean someone else in the community can't do so if
they feel differently).

Best regards,
Jeremy
