Re: Follow up on closure

2016-05-12 Thread jazz salsa
This way of working is weird to me. I make a proposal to form a new community
together and get zero response.

Why would i spend 50$ to a "community" that is only about one person doing all
the work? And it is not clear if we get access to the wowodc 2016 stuff.

It is time for change. Who wants this also?

Let's start the migration after wowodc anyway. Two people offered hosting at
their companies.

It seems the majority wants to keep the WOCommunity server alive until WOWODC,
so let's do that.

Now, the reasons of why I wanted to shutdown everything:

- The results of the surveys are not positive. Only 57% of respondents use WO
for new and current projects, 32% only for maintenance, the rest is moving away
or already done so.

- Based on this, I expect to lose 10-12 WOWODC guests, so I calculated that we
needed 45 guests and made the arrangements based on that number. Sadly, we are
only 33 so far, and usually at that timeframe, we only get 4-5 registrations.
Hence the 6200$ deficit (now reduced to about 2100$).

- Contributions to Wonder is next to nothing for the last year.

- I was thinking that having a session about using Cayenne with WO would be a
great way to modernize WO, and hence generate interest, and looks like I was
wrong, or else we would have more people at WOWODC, not less.

- At WOWODC 2014, we asked if people were using the master branch of Wonder,
and the vast majority said they are using their own fork. So why should we keep
Jenkins if most of you use their own forks?

Pascal,
   There are also people like us that use WO for internal projects. I have
not been able to find any other platform that would warrant a move. It was
pretty clear to me that Apple discontinued WO good 15 years ago. Is it really
possible that only 50 people or so in the world that still use WebObjects? Is
there something that is better? (Or 99.99..% use inferior tools?)

WOWODC 2015

2014-12-28 Thread jazz
Hi list,

I was checking the schedule to see who is joining and what will be
presented at the upcoming WOWODC 2015, but nothing is mentioned
(http://wocommunity.org/wowodc15/schedule.html). It has been pretty
quiet on the list as well about it. Therefore my question:

Who will go to WOWODC 2015?

Deploy on CentOS

2014-04-23 Thread jazz
Hi list,

I am running a simple webobjects app on CentOS. Installed with Pascal's
excellent packages:
http://wiki.wocommunity.org/display/documentation/Installing+a+deployment+environment+on+RedHat%2C+CentOS+or+Amazon+Linux

wotaskd and javamonitor are running fine. I can deploy the app from the command
line. Everything works fine.

Now I would like to deploy in javamonitor. Does not work. Application dies. I
have two questions:

1. How do I log JavaMonitor (debug logging)?

2. What could be wrong?
Firewall is open on 1085 and 2001 (port for app)
SE linux allows apache network connections (sudo setsebool -P
httpd_can_network_connect=1,
http://lists.apple.com/archives/webobjects-deploy/2011/Jun/msg9.html
I compiled a new policy module for SElinux (wotaskd).
SElinux disabled makes no difference
owner of the app in /opt/Local/Library/Applications) is appserver:appserveradm

Thanks for your help in advance!

Re: WebObjects development (Mark Wardle)

2014-03-08 Thread jazz
Hi Mark,

When reading through your email I realised that this is quite nicely
summarising my thoughts on this topic. I hear other people on the list talking
about the past, but this is about the future. Since Apple now has a large
installed base of iOS devices, it would be worth a try again to go beyond
consumer products. Your medical application of iOS linked with server
technology would fit perfect in the common heard Apple values: "the crossroads
of technology and liberal arts".
Let's see what the future brings. I've copied Craig Federighi and hope your
idea will interest him as well.

Best regards, Bart

Hi,

I saw two messages on the list recently. Maybe we can combine the two?

Alan, would Apple be able to provide server access for Jenkins, Confluence?
(current server is paid up to June 30th and there are not enough members to pay
for it afterwards, see below).

Many thanks, Bart

I can help with the server (upgrading Jenkins and Confluence, etc.), but I have
no time to modernize the Web site. The server is paid up to June 30th, we will
need more paid members to pay for it after that.

WebObjects 5.3.4 Frontbase question

2013-03-05 Thread jazz
Hi list,

Trying to make Frontbase 5.2.10 and WebObjects 5.3.4 to work (and yes I do not
use Wonder ;)

How do I make sure that first the Frontbase framework is loaded? No I get this
error:

[2013-03-05 17:10:40 CET] A fatal exception occurred: Adaptor
com.webobjects.jdbcadaptor.JDBCAdaptor@11f1f failed to provide new primary keys
for entity blaaa

So it seems that first the webobjects jdbc adaptor is loaded?

Generated classpath:

/System/Library/Frameworks/JavaFoundation.framework/Resources/Java/javafoundation.jar

Re: WOCommunity membership and goals

2013-02-11 Thread jazz
Hi all,

I was reading through the comments others made. For me two things are important:

1. How to integrate WebObjects and iOS (mobile apps): client - server
communication without the use of Javascript frameworks on the client
2. Easy setup and deployment like the good old Apple WebObjects

Where do I fill in the survey? I missed that.

Re: beginner question: automatically going to next page

2012-08-23 Thread jazz
Hi Chuck,

Page2 gets a feed with information and has an appendToResponse method. But how
do I implement WORedirect in an appendToResponse method (which does not return
any methods, void)? Or do I need to add another method? If so which on?

public WOComponent signOut()
{
session().terminate();
WORedirect redirect = new WORedirect(context());

redirect.setUrl(context().directActionURLForActionNamed("default",null));
return redirect;
}

This would work, but it needs an action method (press button signOut). How can
this work without user interaction?

Regards, Bart

WO 2012 by Apple?

2012-04-12 Thread jazz
Hi,

I read about something interesting:

http://www.patentlyapple.com/patently-apple/2012/04/apple-reveals-new-whiz-bang-no-code-content-authoring-tool.html

Is this WO 2012 by Apple?

Best regards, Bart

WebObjects 5.3 on 10.4 compatible with OpenBase SQL 11?

2012-02-28 Thread jazz
Hi,

I am running Webobjects from Mac OS 10.4 using OpenBase 8. Importing large txt
files into the database crash the application. Is it possible to update to
OpenBase 11? Or will the compatibility with Xcode 2.1 / WebObjects 5.3 break?

In general it would be nice to know who is developing for Webobjects in 10.4. I
read a lot about Eclipse in the mailing list but not so much about the original
Webobjects/Xcode environment.

Thanks for your help!

Best regards,

Bart
