Re: [libreoffice-website] Time to start drafting content for the SilverStripe site

2010-11-10 Thread Michael Wheatland
I am somewhat keen to start contributing to this, but I am still a bit lost.

How does Silverstripe work to ensure that all of the content and structure
when selecting different language options remains exactly the same, just in
a different language? And how does the SilverStripes page translation
interface work?

Thanks,

 Hi,

If you have translations and there isn't anything there, anyway, then it
seems to me you should just put it up to the test site, seems like a
good starting point for anything that is already there, but you have
already put in some labor, so why not put it up, as a starting point.

Anyway - I'll forward this thread over here also (via reference):

[libreoffice-website] Re: Welcome to website@libreoffice.org

2010-11-10 Thread Andy Rogers
Dear LibreOffice Website Mailing List

Im newish to the mailing list for LibreOffice, but I would like to offer
some help with LibreOffice in some shape or form going forward (but not
programming at the moment).

Basically I have been using Linux (mainly ubuntu) for the past 2+ Years and
have been looking at trying to get involved in a project to give something
back to the Linux community moving forward.

I have a very good inside advance of computers in general, and use them day
in and day out and this is my number 1 passion in life, and also Linux as my
main operating system.

I mainly come from an administration background in work, but am moving more
and more to my preferred role as IT becomes more utilised in my work place.

OpenOffice is what I use day in day out out work home and am very
willing to help move this new project forward for the future.

If you could suggest some areas which I can assist in longterm, or
suggestions, or have any questions or need any more information please email
me.
Im not to sure of how best to start the LibreOffice community but am open
for direction to the correct people etc.

Thanks

Andy

Re: [libreoffice-website] Time to start drafting content for the SilverStripe site

2010-11-10 Thread Christian Lohmaier
Hi Michael, *,

On Wed, Nov 10, 2010 at 7:03 PM, Michael Wheatland
mich...@wheatland.com.au wrote:

How does Silverstripe work to ensure that all of the content and structure

It doesn't enforce it - the Toplevel menu structure is taken from the
corresponding site's main language, i.e. the toptabs are taken from
the english version for www.* - when those pages are translated, the
translated menu-tab will appear, otherwise the english one will be
shown. But that is all that silverstripe enforces.

 just in
 a different language?

So it only enforces it for the toplevel - a translated page could have
subpages that don't have a match in the original language, that are
only available in one language. But on the main site this of course
should be avoided, as the content on the main page is meant to be
valid for all users, of any language.

And how does the SilverStripes page translation
 interface work?

In the CMS there is a tab Translations that can be used to
create/list the available translations for the corresponding page. And
for all translations, you see the value of the original page as
reference when editing the content. Keeping the actual contents in
sync of what is written in the original page is up to the editor
though. When the original page talks about apples, the translator can
write about bananas in the translation. Keeping the contents in sync
is a matter of policy in this case.
(you can get notifications when the original page is updated as a help
to keep it in sync though)

Feel free to mess around in the sandbox (access instructions here:
http://www.mail-archive.com/website@libreoffice.org/msg00337.html )

ciao
Christian

Well, a general question then - how do folks want first drafts presented
for some of these pages: I've got a rough draft for the Why/Feature and
Why/Personal Use pages.

An email first, up on the wiki or just save/unpublished on the test
site?

Thanks

You can add it directly to the final site (the one that is currently
reachable using test.libreoffice.org

Wiki is not that good, as its probably easier to copy'n'paste HTML
sourcecode than to rely on whatever stuff is copied to the clipboard
when viewing a site in your browser.

So just go ahead and add it to the real installation, no need to add
it to a sandbox or the wiki first.

Thanks Christian,

It is only a little bit of text for the moment.

Anyway, added such to Why/Personal and Why/Features

Then I managed to somehow duplicate the text in the features page and
then to actually delete - I can see it, marked deleted, the Features
page, but don't see how to un-delete it..sorry.

Choose the Show all pages (including deleted) filter in the left
