 On the first page at http://fedoraproject.org/get-fedora, it says "Cloud:
 EC2 Cloud Images". It should say something more generic now, like "Cloud:

Comment (by mattdm):

 One of the key problems with the current page is lack of search engine
 friendliness. A search for "Fedora cloud images" brings up the several
 wiki pages and some junk. It would be nice if the each page were nicely
 tailored for people looking for that particular download. For cloud
 images, "Fedora Cloud Images" should lead in the html title tag, for
 example.

 Also, I would like to see greater prominence for the cloud image for F20.
 I'm going to propose a number of aspects to FESCO, and among them, I'd
 like the cloud images to be next to the main desktop spin in visibility on
 the main download page.

 Thanks for this report, we might need to look deeper on the JS code.
 By that time, as a simple fix, you can disable JS on your browser which
 will display the table for you.
 Of course, if that does not work... It's an other issue.

 Thanks,

 When using Firefox 3.6.14 I see neither a table nor a set of dropdown
 boxes under the "EC2 images" section here:

 http://fedoraproject.org/en/get-fedora-options#clouds

 This is, of course, a very "old" Firefox running on an older and
 unsupported Fedora release. However, I'm told that the page in question
 should gracefully adapt to older browsers, and it doesn't seem to be doing
 so.

Comment:

 I agree, we already spoke about that and should clean a few things.

 We should have a simple way to download the default Fedora. Let's say it
 is the index and the bug blue button.
 Then... Ok, that's a wide discussion that should be on the mailing list
 IMHO.
 But get-fedora-options become nicer at each release, and more and more
 complete. That could be the main page.

 Let's see after the F19 release.
 The major issue is that the download pages should be for new users, and
 dear old contributors. Different targets, different needs. Same website.

 You also forget http://torrent.fedoraproject.org/

 Our actual download pages are still remanends from older methods of
 shipping Fedora. We had 6 or 7 CDs, spins and some netinstall CDs, but now
 the arches and formats are much more and we are creating confusion. This
 leads to misunderstandings and we are also not able to promote all the
 arches the right way.

 Actually we have 4 download pages on fp.o:
 * get-fedora
 * get-fedora-options
 * get-fedora-all
 * get-prerelease

 and we have also http://spins.fedoraproject.org

 My thought would be to:
 * Drop the get-fedora-all page completely
 * Avoid any kind of duplicates, i.e. some spins (the major ones) are
 available on 2 or 3 pages. All spins should reside on spins.fp.o!
 * Use the get-fedora page to promote all the shipping methods

 The clearest method to do so IMHO would be to drop also the right random
 banners we have on the sidebar (Desktop, 2nd-arches, Cloud, Spins) and to
 put them into the get-fedora page.\\
 They should link to the tabs in get-fedora-options or to our spins page
 and give users a clear idea of what is available.\\
 Same for get-pre-release: it would be easy to promote on the get-fedora
 page, and we could also advertise it better on our main page.

 If I can find some time after F19 GA I could give it a try, but if you
 have concerns or ideas please let me know and comment.

 With F19, the "launch" page doesn't show up until you choose a region. We
 could default to us-east-1, because that's the biggest and most-full
 featured region, but that may come off as a little us-centric. So, what
 about guessing the closest region based on geoip, for the F20 version of
 the page?

 We fixed many things. Please have a look at next build or build it
 locally.
 - AMI ID has no border now
 - Launch it button looks now as other download button
 - Both, the ami id and the launch link are hidden if we don't choose the
 region.
 - It loads early now, without waiting the whole page to be loaded
 (DOMContentLoaded Vs window.onload).

 We can improve the last cloud image design but I could not find a better
 way (in two colums that's a small array not visible (with two lines).

 Cheers,

 In fact there is 2 needs:
 - temporary files needed at build time (like cache)
 - static files generated at build time needed later

 The first would fit nice in tmp, while the later would fit in

 I did the second in fpo for the cloud selector (#132).

 We have actually some files which are created during the build process.
 More temporary files are coming and we should place them all in the same
 tmp/ directory and not spreading them around :)

 Examples for files actually in use could be:

 * tmp/static/js
 * tmp/cache/rss
 *
 *

 Unfortunately, in firefox 21 in F19 pre-release, I'm just getting this:

 You can see I turned off adblock and ghostery, so that's not it...

 I pushed the original script in the staging instance (f19 branch). Would
 be built at next hour, please check out and comment.
 If someone can make better css before release, would be awesome (we can
 probably add back the picture as button..) Robert?

 We added also the new Cloud Image section and the DL links should be all
 ok (need to check them). Remaining tasks for F19:

 * add CHECKSUMS
 * update ISO sizes
 * check DL links and doc links [1]
 * update release states (all arches) in the globalvar.py file *
 * EC2 AMI-Id update to F19 and F18
 * update screenshots in fpo and spins (hopefully)

 [*] ARM should be F19 and also PPC, don't know about s390.

 "The MATE Compiz spin bundles MATE Desktop with Compiz Fusion. MATE
 Desktop is a lightweight, powerful Desktop designed with productivity and
 performance in mind. Compiz Fusion is a beautiful 3D windowing manager
 with Emerald theming.

 If you want a powerful, lightweight Fedora Desktop with 3D eyecandy you
 should definitely try the MATE Compiz spin."

 Pages are live at http://spins.stg.fedoraproject.org/mate-compiz but we
 still need the banners, as requested in design ticket #273.

 Please proofread the pages ASAP (Dan?) and let me know if we should
 correct them or add more descriptions. We need to update our POT file for
 l10n teams soon, because they need some time to translate the pages before
 GA release date.

 Thank you.

 If there is no time or resources to update this section, I would suggest
 removing the "Using Fedora" link from the front page of fedoraproject.org
 since most of the content is obsolete and misleading for any current
 version of Fedora.

 Some of the apps are not even available in the yum repo any more (Agave),
 links are dead (http://www.learnopenoffice.org/) or haven't been updated
 in 3 years (http://screencasters.heathenx.org/).

 Not a great new user impression.

 In some places of the site, "forums" links to Ask Fedora and in this page,
 it links to fedoraforum.org instead. We should be consistent and not
 confuse others. Either create a new link to Ask Fedora and and have forum
 link to fedoraforum.org in parallel or chose one.

Comment (by robyduck):

 Yes I agree with linking the get-prerelease page in the "ALL" options, see
 rev 76d80da.

 On the mainpage we'll keep the beta-banner for some other few days before
 switching to the countdown banner. This should make the Beta release more
 visible on our main fpo page. In the meanwhile the external counter is
 already working for the third part pages.

 I think we should remake all the download pages, or at least "syncronize"
 them better. Now we have also the ARM Beta release which actually is not
 available on our pages, and the Cloud Images now are also included in the
 prerelease page.\\
 So, images are becoming more and more and we risk to create confusion
 between end users by adding links and new ISOs everywhere, IMHO. I would
 be more happy if we keep only the most used Beta releases on our get-
 prerelease page, adding an Alpha/Beta section for 2nd arches and cloud in
 get-fedora-options (which should appear only when we are on pre-release
 state); just an idea but what about deepen this topic a little bit more?

 get-fedora-all should mention pre-releases (if available) since it's
 supposed to be "ALL" options.

 Either in a section or a link to get-prerelease or something.

 Also, we should look at making get-prerelease more obvious on the front
 page aside from it being just one button thats in a slideshow that might
 be easily missed.

 Checksums added, see rev b76e1e4.

 Also added SoaS, MATE-Compiz, Cloud Images with icons we had on our web-
 tree. Please check them out and comment (on get-prerelease).

 Now ready for Beta release, just have to :
 * check Dl links and filenames
 * check doc links

Comment (by robyduck):

 We will probably have 2 additional Beta Spins we need to advertise on the
 get-prerelease page:
 * SoaS
 * MATE-Compiz
 It would be nice to have an icon for additional spins (perhaps a generic
 one?) like the ones we have for the classical live spins, for example
 http://fedoraproject.org/static/images/gnomelive.png \\
 If generic, it could be used also for other spins, if we'll have others in
 the future.

 We will provide MATE-compiz spin for Fedora 19, so we need to create the
 pages in http://spins.fedoraproject.org/

 Actually there is not very much we can use to fill the pages, so we need:
 * Description of what MATE-compiz spin is and wher user can get more
 information about (wiki page update?)
 * Screenshots
 * Banner (large for the top of the spin page and small for the main spin
 page and perhaps http://fedoraproject.org/it/get-fedora-options#spins
 * IRC channels and Mailing-List

 See https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/MATE-Compiz_Spin for more information;
 to spped up the task we should get in contact with the spin owner Vicodan
 (dan408 on IRC) to coordinate the pages.

 Get in contact with robyduck if you want to help working on this, we have
 to modify also some other files amd variables to get this new spin page
 working the right way.

 It is not a problem to hide it also on the main page, but we have a note
 on the mainpage which says:

 since the most recent Fedora release."''

 If we should hide them I would hide only the number of downloads, nothing
 else, maintaining the two tables, by popularity and alphabetical.

 I have a commit ready, but I'm concerned about the 75px height images,
 which seem to be not so sharp as the 100px.

 You can see the 75px banners on the design ticket #268, the higher banners
 (100px) are too big to be pushed into production.

 We want to create random banners to advertise other Fedora releases,
 instead of the static "Spins" one we actually have in
 https://fedoraproject.org/en/get-fedora on the right sidebar.

 The four banners have been created [1][2][3][4] and they should link to
 the corresponding tab at http://fedoraproject.org/en/get-fedora-options
 (cloud, desktop, secondary arch, spins).

 Actual size is 200x100 pixel, let's see if it looks good or if we should
 replace them with 200x75 pixel (the size the actual grey "spins" banner
 has).

 We can partially use the random script we have on the right side in
 spins.fp.o, which rotates randomly the available spins.

 There is still a lot of time but we should start preparing the fudcon.fpo
 pages for FUDCon LATAM [1] in Cusco [2] and Flock in Charleston (South
 Carolina USA) [3], which replaces the FUDCon EMEA and NA.

 It could be the right moment to redesign also the fudcon pages (ticket
 #193), but it's not a must.

 While FUDCon LATAM has already organized a few basic things, as the banner
 etc., Flock is still starting this process.

Comment (by robyduck):

 Yes we have this also on other languages, which are used to have rather
 long words, such as russian for example, and sometimes this error appears
 also on the index slider.

 IMO it's not a solution increasing the height, because most of the
 languages are fitting well and would have a large space below the sentence
 you mentioned.

 We should rather try to give translators the input to proofread their
 translations and shorten the strings as much as possible to avoid cases
 like this.

 I switch to the Hungarian language and look at the "get prerelease" page
 when "Fedora 100% -ban szabadon élvezhető és megosztható" sentence doesn't
 appear correctly because, I think

 {{{
 .page header {
   height: 116px
 ...
 }
 }}}

 this is a little bit low. If I increase this value to 130px, that will
 seem to be good. Other languages can be affected. Someone else can confirm
 this?

 PS: tested under Google Chrome latest stable(26.0.1410.63)

 Ok, I couldn't stay without doing the template.
 It's puthed in stg https://git.fedorahosted.org/cgit/fedora-
 web.git/commit/?h=stg&id=924e6dc82d527702f5471dcf76205805b24ed36e

 if you approve (and probably with a bit more CSS) we can go prod.

 Just read the git log summary to understand the feature

 Please review the following example: http://jsfiddle.net/shaiton/wChSv/4/

 Give any feedback, and then I'll write the python template to generate
 this code nicely on our websites.
 Do you need to display the AMI ID?

Comment (by kevin):

 One thing related to this to note is that we are looking at rolling
 fedocal out to production before too long.

 https://admin.stg.fedoraproject.org/calendar/

 is the staging instance.

 Perhaps we could leverage that and a Fedora calendar on it with the
 schedule?
 But it might be it doesn't meet your needs for counters or other things.

 The first reason to get a freeze during the build was transifex-client
 being stuck at some point. This is not the case any more as we moved POs
 pulling outside of the build.

 The only other reason that I have is about wrong RSS file, that we fail to
 parse correctly. There could be an infinite loop at some point.
 We already corrected something similar 2 years ago, but there could be a
 similar issue.

 Last freeze was few days ago, and it got stuck for several hours until I
 killed it. I have noticed the Fedora Planet Android app being crashing as
 well (no feed, blank results) on the same time. It got resolved alone on
 both at the approximated same time.

 Therefore, we can probably improve the Fedora Planet RSS feed.
 Anyone noticing this error again would be nice to save the RSS feed in
 order for us to debug.

Comment (by robyduck):

 IMO it's useful to have a schedule page, but just fpo/schedule. This means
 importing the schedule directly to fp.o sites instead of having it "only"
 on the wiki, right?

 If yes, we should consider linking the fpo/schedule page also in the main
 fpo page, as requested in ticket #162. If I remember right we have a link
 to the wiki scheduling page during Alpha and Beta stage, although it's not
 very visible actually.

 If we want to have such a page, which imports the schedule as XML, we
 could use this page also for:
 * Autohide the Alpha button at "Release date + 10 days" (for example) #141
 * Manage the release counter better by grabbing the date automatically

 There is no easy way to know when our next Fedora will be released.
 People should look for the right wiki page, and there could be frequent
 updates.

 I propose to design a simple page containing the main schedules (Alpha,
 Beta and GA releases).
 The data would be taken from the online official schedule (parsing as XML
 I think). This would be shared by ou main fpo websites (for the countdown
 banner..)

 The content would be in fpo/get-prerelease and on a secondary page like
 schedule.fpo? or just fpo/schedule?

 I propose to rename the directories:
 * fel -> electronic-lab
 * design -> design-suite
 and to delete the redirect rule on apache. To do on f19-alpha branch and
 before D-day, to have it alive when Alpha release is available.

 To keep the old links working we should rather think about a rewrite rule,
 for example:
  RewriteRule http://spins.fedoraproject.org/design/
 http://spins.fedoraproject.org/design-suite/ [R=301,L,NC]

 I played a bit around with a CSS menu, just because we want to avoid JS. I
 don't know if this is a good solution, because it includes hard links and
 is a nav bar. Better would be having a template, but perhaps you can give

 The same ones that Ubuntu is using. A URL like

 6145cc08

 appears to work.

 I agree that a repeated grid of options isn't ideal. Maybe a drop-down to
 select the region and architecture, instead of the current table?

Comment (by robyduck):

 Yes it takes you to the same page as the Ubuntu one you linked, for every
 single instance. I don't know the right procedure but I think you need a
 valid account to download it.

 Could you please tell us which link you mean exactly?

 The 'launch' is on the top of the column and at mouseover you will see a
 description title, much better than having 20 buttons with 'launch'
 written on it, IMHO.

Comment:

 Unfortunately, doesn't actually work. Takes you to the amazon web services
 start page but doesn't take you to the instance launch.

 Also, once it's working, I wonder if the cloud button could be enhanced
 with something to indicate that it's a button? Maybe just the text
 "launch"?
