[weewx-user] Upgrade from 2.6.3 to 3.8.0 issues

2017-11-24 Thread gjr80
Hi,

You are definitely still running 2.6.3 code, that error message is a 2.6.3
error message that is no longer used. What type of weeWX install was 2.6.3,
setup.py, .deb or .rpm? Also how did you upgrade to 3.8.0? Finally, what is the
full path to the weeWX.conf you are looking at that says 3.8.0? As an aside,
the weeWX version number logged during startup is hard coded in the weeWX
source and not necessarily the version read from weewx, that being said I would
expect weeWX 2.x to complain loudly if it was forced to use a weeWX 3.x config
file.

[weewx-user] Upgrade from 2.6.3 to 3.8.0 issues

2017-11-24 Thread Tony F
Hi,
Finally broke down and updated my weewx running on a raspberry pi from old
version 2.6.3 to 3.8.0
Looked like everything was working but then a few hours later it just
stopped. I cannot get it to stay running.
Noticed that syslog says I am running version 2.6.3 ??? But when I look in
weewx.conf it says 3.8.0.
I thought my serial interface was toast so I connected the VantageVue to a
PC and it works just fine.
Since it could be my GPO ttl/rs232 interface on the Pi, I connected a USB
to rs232 converter and changed
weewx.conf to use this. Still wont stay up.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks, TonyF

Thomas & Gary,

Thanks. I succeeded in dumping the data and lost only a few hours. But
it is strange to have this error after over a year running the vantage
without any problem. I still have to stitch several instances of
database as I have restarted a few times on different systems (starting
in 2006 with wview and different weather stations to eventually end with
the vantage which is I think the most reliable and best station (but
also the most expensive one for an amateur).

Thanks for the speedy help,

2017-11-24 Thread Ray Allinson
Good to know I got it right! Now I suppose the station will just keep
adding daily data? Do I have to do anything else to 'keep it going'
I notice that I have made a mistake in the altitude of my station, I should
have added the height of the mounting pole making total altitude about 10m
above sea level (we do live very close to the sea).
How do I go about changing this please?

[weewx-user] Weewx 3.8.0 Using Vantage Vue, what model_type parameter?

2017-11-24 Thread gjr80
Hi,

Short answer is that model_type is only used to distinguish a Vantage Pro from
a Vantage Pro2 (there is no way to determine this by interrogating the
station). For a Vue the parameter has no effect, as you have found it is
automatically set to 2 for a Vue (in fact you could set is to 99 and it will be
reverted to 2 by the vantage driver). At the moment I think model_type is only
used in determining how rxCheckPercent is calculated - the Vantage Pro uses a
different formula to the Vantage Pro2 and the Vue.

There probably should be something in the User's Guide to that effect. I'll add
it to the list :)

[weewx-user] Weewx 3.8.0 Using Vantage Vue, what model_type parameter?

2017-11-24 Thread Phil Green
Just updated to 3.8.0 all ok.
Using Vantage Vue station, in the .conf file the new parameter under Vantage
section, model_type defaults to 2, being Vantage Pro2
System is working but no mention of what value I should use for the Vantage Vue
station type.
Any advice, what does this model_type parameter do in this new release?
Regards
Phil

You did not post a log, but most likely the problem is that you need to
stop weewx before attempting to dump the memory. The two instances are
competing for the same resource --- the port connected to the Vantage.

Hi Gary
Thanks for your advice which I read yesterday midnight. I tried the
removal of the batteries and power, waiting for several minutes but it
hasn't any effect.
I tried to dump the memory of the vantage using "wee_device
--logger-summary=/var/tmp/summary.txt" but it came back with an error
(with a lot of traceback lines) "OSError: [Errno 11] Resource
temporarily unavailable".
I'm afraid I lose 4 days of data if I cannot dump the memory, which I
think happens when I use the command wee_device --clear-memory.
However. dumped the memory - I have to investigate the database later -
as I assume it is dumped there.
Maybe you can suggest some more things I can do. I see in the
summary.txt file that data up to this moment are stored but I have no
explanation of the dumped data (OK date etc is clear but it gives no
sensor data in the file).

I think I'll analyse the database and then clear the memory.
Hope you have still some advice,
Thanks in advance,
Joep
