[weewx-user] Re: Can't run wee_extension?

2018-10-21 Thread gjr80
Hi Mark,

If you are in the same directory as an executable you run it by preceding
the file name with ./ or you can use the full path, eg:

gary@cockatoo:/home/weewx/bin $ ./wee_extension --help

or

gary@cockatoo:/home/weewx/bin $ /home/weewx/bin/wee_extension --help

[weewx-user] Can't run wee_extension?

2018-10-21 Thread Mark Maritz
Hi All

I am a new Pi user and am trying to install weewx so I can migrate from
Cumulus (Windows).

I'm trying to run wee_extension from the /home/weewx/bin/ folder but get a
command not found error. The file is in the folder so I'm totally confused.

I installed weewx using the " Pyton too setp.py so as to keep all the files
together in the weewx folder.

Have I missed a step or have the files been corrupted (lost needed
rights...).

WeeWX seems to run but I want to install some extension and now cannot.

Your help will be appreciated.

Regards
Mark

Gary..I did make the change to wxformulas.py bfore installing Steel Gauges or
RTG. What i am going to do is uninstall SG then reinstall the newest version
followed by RTG. Ill let you know what happens.

Re: [weewx-user] Re: Steel Gauges question

2018-10-21 Thread gjr80
A few more thoughts. There are two publicly available ways of generating
gauge-data.txt that I know of; the SteelSeries Gauges extension which produces
a gauge-data.txt on each report cycle and my realtime gauge data (RTGD)
extension that produces a loop based gauge-data.txt. I cannot recall, but it is
possible that the RTGD extension handles obs with None values differently to
the SteelSeries Gauges extension. I do remember you mentioning making changes
to have weeWX emit None for windchill and heatindex rather than track outTemp
when the pre-conditions are not met. Is it possible you made this change after
installing RTGD? That could explain why your gauges did not show this behaviour
just before your re-install. To delve any deeper I will need to look into the
code, I am travelling at the moment but will have a look later this week when I
am home. At the end of the day both extensions should handle None values in
such a manner that it does not adversely impact the gauge displays.

The lack of windrose data is expected; the SteelSeries Gauges extension has
never populated the windrose field nor does it provide the forecast text in the
scroller. You need RTGD for both of these features.

Re: [weewx-user] Re: Steel Gauges question

2018-10-21 Thread Steve2Q
Gary, I changed wxformulas.py as follows:

For windchill and heat index (in Fahrenheit of course!), I changed both
Return T andReturn t_f to Return None. I did this before getting
involved with Steel Gauges to prevent out of range values from being
plotted in the charts. I am still investigating what happened in the
re-installation. I did a backup of /weewks/skins before doing it, so I
don't know why it didn't stick.

[weewx-user] Re: Is anyone using an Acurite SmartHub directly plugged into the Raspberry Pi ethernet?

2018-10-21 Thread Gabe
Yeah I did, I read this passage and thought I could set it up:

Example: Acurite Bridge in sniff mode

1) The interceptor must be running on a computer that can see traffic from the
   acurite bridge. For example, run weewx on a raspberry pi that has both a
   wired network interface and a wifi network interface. Connect the acurite
   bridge to the wired interface, and connect the rpi wireless to the local
   wireless network.

2) Configure the interceptor

[Interceptor]
driver = user.interceptor
device_type = acurite-bridge
mode = sniff
iface = eth0
pcap_filter = src X.X.X.X and dst port 80

But it didn't work. I think I'm missing a step where I have to bridge the eth0
to the wifi, but all my attempts at that have failed. So before trying other
things, I was hoping someone had done it before and could point me in the right
direction.

As I carefully re-read the installation instructions, I see now how I
missed the prerequisites because I misread the documentation. I had
interpreted the instructions as applying only if you didn't have Python 2.7
installed. When I read down through the actual commands, I see that there
are other prerequisites that are required. Since I did have Python 2.7
installed, I skipped over the rest. Might be worth an edit on the next
revision of the documentation to clarify that having Python 2.7 installed
doesn't mean skip the stuff below!
