Unfortunately, even if I like it very much, the name "Babylon" is quite
for sure under copyright because of the popular translator.

Personnally, I won't use a name like conKord, Kvats, Kongea or any other
name with a "K", since I don't want the project would be thought to be
addressed to just one desktop environment and not to the others.

I like, "phonix", "parole", "parolia", "mokanda" or "openspeech" (that
I've just created).

This was the result of a brainstorming session at osAlliance's net culture
lab:

kvats

It is short and should work in most languages as an echoism. One can think
about chatting frogs, for example. In German language the word sounds close
to "quatschen" or "quasseln", which means, to talk a lot.

Some background information: osAlliance got some funding from a mobile phone
operator (A1.net). We need to make available an open source VoIP/Messaging
client until the first weeek of March 2008, so that their customers can
download and use it. We do not need to brand it for A1, but can use any other
name. We had to decide to use for this project "kvats.net", as they needed a
story for their customer brochure. That's why we have already registered the
domain and will build some kind of community/download/FAQ page in the next 3
weeks. We would be glad, to offer this name and our efforts giving the client
a new identity to the WengoPhone community.

Yes - the pedant in me wants to point out that this is a corruption of
the intention - "released on parole" = "released on your word" - that
is, a promise that you won't do it again.

When we brainstormed on names in November & December, we came up with a
longish list of mostly not-very-good names:

exovoice
softspeak (would need a domain name buy & verification that the guy
isn't still in business)
netyack (which I like, but which I know Vadim wasn't a fan of)
thawder
thawda

(Dave Neary)

serasera
akaiky
antso
antso an-tariby

(Philippe Bernery - Malgache words meaning speak or chat)

talouni
elomia
ilenga
mokanda
parolia
jadeya
luvanti
nexali

(Aurelien Gateau - Some of these are African words, I think)

Anyway - some ideas in there, surely...

Cheers,
Dave.

Yes, it's nice. /De plus/, it has the same meaning (but plural) in Italian.

Anyway, it's true that in English it could sound a bit strange:
"conditionally released from jail; pledge or promise made by a prisoner
that he will obey the terms of his release". What English native
speakers think about it?

What about "open-VOsIP"?

I explain:

"open", in order to show that is open-source, and in continuity to
open-wengo project

"VOsIP": a mix of "VOIP" and "SIP", in order to make clear what it does.

It could also be nice: "open-VOIP", but maybe it's too easy :)
