My mistake. I incorrectly assumed that the standard library std::remove_if()
function ( http://en.cppreference.com/w/cpp/algorithm/remove ) operates by
swapping elements.

This bug was apparently caused by draw event flooding. As gfgtdf speculated in
comment 15, the new message windows likely set up new draw timers and kept
increasing the rate of draw events (after only 5 messages it would already
have been up to 150 draw messages per second) to the point where the game
generated draw events faster than it could handle them.

To fix bug #25356, I made the event pump to drop superfluous draw events.
According to this post
, it caused the
[message] lag to disappear.

Marking this bug report as a duplicate of bug #25356.

Details:

Playing LoW on easy.  Never had any problem with this scenario in the 1.12
release.  Wolf riders get the heroes every single time now before they can
even reach the chief.  There seem to be more orcs on the map too.  Maybe it's
me, but hopefully someone else can play-test and confirm the new difficulty.

Confirmed insofar as I also found the wolves seem to run into my heroes just
before they approach the keep. Retreat is also impossible as once they find
you they keep following you. I don't know what's changed in the AI or scenario
which might have started this. Last time I properly played Legend of Wesmere
was in 1.10.

Have you reported this on the forums? I can't recall who the current
maintainer of LoW might be but game-play issues like these may be better
served there.

In the map editor, scrolling a large selection of tiles in the bottom right
