Re: [WestNileNet] Further Development
Dear sons and daughters of West Nile, It’s a moment of mourning for all of us and I in person am greatly perturbed by the tragedy, an outcome from our own initiative; West Nile Night at Club Palui. I am happy that our Leadership took the responsibility of the situation and owned it. I think it is time for us to put priorities right for WNF and turn this tragedy into opportunity to remember our fallen brothers as Nayenda has proposed. Fr. Rufino did articulate some issues that would style up and make the social gathering resourceful and enjoyable for all including those who do not entertain night dances but the organizers did not respond apart from posting “Another Night”. Our president has been posed some questions for clarification about the registration process and CPU of WNF, I have never seen any response. It is very unfortunate that the majority if not all locals of our interest (West Nile) have come to know about us as West Nile Foundation through the tragic incident. This is really a great shame to us though our Leadership worked hard to make our presence felt in the difficult moments. I therefore beg to move that West Nile Night be stayed until WNF is registered and officially launched. In the event of its resumption, there must be a wide consultation and tribute oriented activities. I also beg the Leadership of WNF to style up and avoid heading towards strongman’s syndrome which is very chronic in our country. WNF should be run on institutional basis not on individual capability and ability. MAY THE SOULS OF OUR DEPARTED BROTHERS REST IN ETERNAL PEACE. I JOIN IN THE PRAYERS FOR THE QUICK RECOVERY OF THE INJURED. I say all this for God and our Region. Dear Friends and Colleagues, It was with deep sorrow i got to learn about the demise of our comrades from West Nile. It is a time when we should not be loosing such a big number of our scarce human resource, especially as West Nile. My condolences to the grieving families and friends. May the Lord comfort all at a time like this. I would like to commend the efforts of the West Nile Foundation. Re: [WestNileNet] Science cafe, IPR and access to medicines
Dear Members, I look forward to being present for this topic given by my special interest. I would also like to request the organizers particularly the facilitator to widen the scope of his discussion to other areas of research i.e the field of Biotechnology where we could up with consensus at the end of the day. Because i could directly forward our common position for the consumption of the National intellectual Advisory Group and my Committee of National Bio-safety Committee. The proposed topic is Intellectual property Rights(IPR) and access to medicines. You will be able to know the difference between generic medicines and brand medicines( why medicines from India or China cost less than those from US, UK, Germany etc) and how the politics between the two limits access to medicines especially for a poor country like Uganda. You will also be able to understand the implications of the draft Uganda counterfeit bill on the ordinary Ugandan if passed as it is. Afew key issues about the global pharmacuetical politics and access to medicines especially ARVs in Africa will be tackled , time allowing. Recently, the media reported MPs Okumu Reagan and Tom Butiime asking the National Medical Stores officer why the drugs from UK, US, Germany costs more than those from China and India, the NMS official being a technical man even failed to answer this question. Many of our MPs are that ignorant about the issues and yet they are going to pass this bill without understanding the content. This is our chance to be informed. The facilitator will be Moses Mulumba, a legal expert with Coalition for Health Promotion and Social Development who has been fighting to change the problematic clauses of the counterfeit bill. According to media reports, some of the reguired changes have been made. If you have any other suggestions, please let me know. Dear Caleb, I would like to extend my sincere thanks to you and your team. Had it not been for you informing Madam Delia about the Loss of my Nephew Imran Abdul, I would not have known anything about his demise on time! This has been one of those darkest days in my life owing to the fact that late Imran Abdul just burried an uncle, Debo Henry barely a week before his departure too to the creator! May their SOULS REST IN PEACE. Gilbert Adibo On 29 August 2010 09:12, Caleb Alaka wrote: > Dear Colleagues, > > It was a terrible tragedy that befell us on Saturday morning.
