Innocent and Babua were not taken to Arua by us because of mutual understanding

Caleb, is it possible to organise some CSR nitiatives like blood donations,
contribute towards buying Oxygen- which I was told was lacking as well etc in
aid of Mulago and in rememberance of all those who die/ have died due to
unavailability of these very important life saving needs? Just asking

Thanks though for your standing with those suffering the loss of their

not have blood and all things needed for the operation. We called the son to

Re: [WestNileNet] Further Development

2010-08-30 Thread jadribo victor
Dear sons and daughters of West Nile,
It’s a moment of mourning for all of us and I in person am greatly perturbed by
the tragedy, an outcome from our own initiative; West Nile Night at Club Palui.
I am happy that our Leadership took the responsibility of the situation and
owned it. I think it is time for us to put priorities right for WNF and turn
this tragedy into opportunity to remember our fallen brothers as Nayenda has
proposed.
Fr. Rufino did articulate some issues that would style up and make the social
gathering resourceful and enjoyable for all including those who do not
entertain
night dances but the organizers did not respond apart from posting “Another
Night”. Our president has been posed some questions for clarification about the
registration process and CPU of WNF, I have never seen any response.

It is very unfortunate that the majority if not all locals of our interest
(West
Nile) have come to know about us as West Nile Foundation through the tragic
incident. This is really a great shame to us though our Leadership worked hard
to make our presence felt in the difficult moments.
I therefore beg to move that West Nile Night be stayed until WNF is registered
and officially launched. In the event of its resumption, there must be a wide
consultation and tribute oriented activities.
I also beg the Leadership of WNF to style up and avoid heading towards
strongman’s syndrome which is very chronic in our country. WNF should be run on
institutional basis not on individual capability and ability.

MAY THE SOULS OF OUR DEPARTED BROTHERS REST IN ETERNAL PEACE. I JOIN IN THE
PRAYERS FOR THE QUICK RECOVERY OF THE INJURED.
I say all this for God and our Region. Over to you

Re: [WestNileNet] What should we do?

2010-08-30 Thread Kiggundu Mukasa

I think the Church and the people should force WENRECO to pay for those kids
schooling up to University

WENRECO should have insurance that covers accidents if it is a reputable company

The lawyers like Caleb can best advise us

A very barbaric act that WENRENCO should pay. I believe they should be sued
first together with the company contracted to provide security.

My dear brothers and sisters

I have just got these facts and lets see what should be done.

Apai Lucy about 50 years of age living in Euata, Eruba parish was shot dead on
23rd July 2010 at around 8:00pm by a security guard of WENERECO (West Nile
Rural electrification company) near the power plant under a security light
before three of her children. Late Apai is Married to Ombia Muhammad who is a
local council for security, Eruba parish. She had reached home from her usual
business of selling fish from Odia Nyadri (market). On reaching home, she
remembered that she had spread her groundnuts near the power plant, a small
cemented area she had cleared for drying her crops. Before three of her
children, she tried to i identify herself to this armed man after missing the
first shot but she could not survive the next bullet from this guard who seemed
to have a formed intention. The bullet ripped her stomach leaving her
intestines on the groundnuts she was collecting, she immediately got help from
a Samaritan but it was too late, Lucy Apai died on reaching Kuluva Hospital at
around 9:00pm
Late Apai Lucy has been one of most dedicated women both at home and in church.
She was a dedicated member of CWAAD (Catholic Women of Arua Diocese) who was
hard working trying hard to feed and educate her children. The criminal is
still on the run but WENERCO that has been offering irregular electricity
supply is promising to compansate "after the suspect has been arrested. I
believe law shall take its course.

I feel that need to put our ideas together and see what we westnilers could do.

2010-08-30 Thread felix andama
Dear Friends and Colleagues,

It was with deep sorrow i got to learn about the demise of our comrades from
West Nile. It is a time when we should not be loosing such a big number of our
scarce human resource, especially as West Nile. My condolences to the grieving
families and friends. May the Lord comfort all at a time like this.

I would like to commend the efforts of the West Nile Foundation. Let this sad
event not dampen our spirits for the development of West Nile and our country
Uganda but rather open our eyes to some unique aspects of our challenges and
strengthen our resolve to address these challenges in all aspects.

Best regards,

Felix

West NIlers,
I have no words to express my gratitude to the West Nile foundation for the
expedience in bringing to control the tragedy that befell us when 6 of our
University students perished in an accidents.
How shall we remember this tragedy and use it to soar above our sorrows and
bereavement? I propose we launch a trust or scholoarship to help University
Students.
May the souls of the departed rest in peace and quick recovery for injurned
both
medically and psychologically.
Thanks

2010-08-30 Thread Sunday Akile
Dear Members,

I look forward to being present for this topic given by my special interest.

I would also like to request the organizers particularly the facilitator to
widen the scope of his discussion to other areas of research i.e the field of
Biotechnology where we could up with consensus at the end of the day. Because i
could directly forward our common position for the consumption of the National
intellectual Advisory Group and my Committee of National Bio-safety Committee.

Christine,

Good initiative and way forward in bridging knowledge gap but; my fear is that,
many of us you would want to target will be at Namboole watching international
qualifier football game between Uganda Cranes and Angola. I would suggest you
reschedule to Sunday 5th September if possible.

Subject: [WestNileNet] Science cafe, IPR and access to medicines

Dear members,
This is to let you know that our next science cafe will be on 4th September at
Jose's place from 4pm.
The proposed topic is Intellectual property Rights(IPR) and access to
medicines.

You will be able to know the difference between generic medicines and brand
medicines( why medicines from India or China cost less than those from US, UK,
Germany etc) and how the politics between the two limits access to medicines
especially for a poor country like Uganda. You will also be able to understand
the implications of the draft Uganda counterfeit bill on the ordinary Ugandan
if
passed as it is. Afew key issues about the global pharmacuetical politics and
access to medicines especially ARVs in Africa will be tackled , time allowing.

Recently, the media reported MPs Okumu Reagan and Tom Butiime asking the
National Medical Stores officer why the drugs from UK, US, Germany costs more
than those from China and India, the NMS official being a technical man even
failed to answer this question. Many of our MPs are that ignorant about the
issues and yet they are going to pass this bill without understanding the
content. This is our chance to be informed.

The facilitator will be Moses Mulumba, a legal expert with Coalition for Health
Promotion and Social Development who has been fighting to change the
problematic
clauses of the counterfeit bill. According to media reports, some of the
reguired changes have been made.

If you have any other suggestions, please let me know.

Thanks
Christine

My deepest condolences to all
In the 7.30am service at All Saints Cathedral, Reverend Galenga read out the
names of all the deceased and prayed for their families and those injured.

Re: [WestNileNet] Latest update on the accident

2010-08-30 Thread Gilbert Adibo
Dear Caleb,

I would like to extend my sincere thanks to you and your team. Had it not
been for you informing Madam Delia about the Loss of my Nephew Imran Abdul,
I would not have known anything about his demise on time!

This has been one of those darkest days in my life owing to the fact
that late Imran Abdul just burried an uncle, Debo Henry barely a week before
his departure too to the creator!
May their SOULS REST IN PEACE.
