Re: [WestNileNet] High bus fairs good to pay for WENRECO charges

2013-03-17 Thread Wanni Norman
The MPs' have taken lead on the issue of WENRECO. There was a meeting held in
Arua attended by a number of our MP's. Lets await the outcome of that meeting.

Alaka is taking a  lead on the meeting with the bus owners and operators . We
expect a feed back on that as well.

The issue of education standards is still outstanding. We need to have some
concrete action plans.

Ejiku,
One might think you are cynical. But I understand the frustration you are
expressing.
WENRECO has
applied to increase the power tariff. WENRECO is asking ERA to grand them the
100% increase. They also want to hold public debates about the same, I think
primarily to inform consumers that they are increasing rates. The buses have
from nowhere slapped their increased charges on travellers. Many of us went to
the booking offices carrying money based on the old rates and we were shocked.
Robert, Kitgum is the same distance with Arua from Kampala. Homeland bus the
travels between Kitgum and Kampala charges UGX 30,000. It has kept this rate
for the last two years when it was increased from UGX 25,000. If pump price for
gasoline has gone up, I personally wonder whether it affects only buses
en-route Arua. I also wonder
whether the executive buses consume more gasoline than the ordinary buses to
travel the same distance to justify the increase from UGX 35,000 to 50,000.

Joel, On a lighter note, if WENRECO raises charges by 100%, it is logical that
bus fares must follow suit. We are also going to reduce electricity consumption
and use of buses by 100%.
I believe the increase in bus fares has been as a result of the ashaming state
of under supply that governement is shamelessly trying to defend. A few of you
who still use your cars are currently paying between 5000 to 6500 per litre for
diesel or petrol. The situation is so bad that I have spent a whoile week at
home not reaching our trading village Ishaka.
I am now tired of petitions and have resigned to my fate until government
effectively kills us. Ejiku
