Re: is this progress bar problem [http://bugs.debian.org/144242]fixed in cvs (2002-04-09+10)?
Noel Koethe [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes: I got the following bug report [http://bugs.debian.org/144242]: As always, thanks for forwarding the report. This is to say, wget claims to be nearly finished downloading the file, but does nothing if left for long periods. The file has been completely and successfully downloaded. I cannot repeat this, although I think I've observed something similar at various opportunities. I'd appreciate help in narrowing this down. Here are things you could try: * Try the download with `--progress=dot'. Noel suspects it's a progress bar problem; if the problem goes away after a progress bar switch, it will be a good indication that he was right. * Try running wget with the `-d' switch to get the debug output. I doubt it'll help in this case, but it's worth a try. * Run `strace wget ...' and see where Wget is stuck during the pause. It's probably in a syscall, since I doubt anything noteworthy is happening in user space that could cause such a delay. I couldn't reproduce the problem and checked the cvs Changelog. Is the described problem fixed by the commits from 2002-04-09 and -10 No. They only affect display, not the actual behavior.

Re: wget does not honour content-length http header [http://bugs.debian.org/143736]
Hrvoje Niksic wrote: If your point is that Wget should print a warning when it can *prove* that the Content-Length data it received was faulty, as in the case of having received more data, I agree. We're already printing a similar warning when Last-Modified is invalid, for example. I'm afraid you'll have to ask R. Fielding, J. Gettye, J. Mogul, H. Frystyk, and T. Berners-Lee what they were thinking. grin I was just quoting from RFC 2068: Hypertext Transfer Protocol -- HTTP/1.1 As for printing a warning only when wget can prove that the Content-Length data was faulty, sounds like a reasonable implementation to me. PLEASE CAN YOU ASSIST
FROM: SEKO MOSHOOD EMAIL:[EMAIL PROTECTED] DEAR FRIEND, I am the first son of the late Mobutu Sese Seko, the former President of the Zaire. I am presently under protective custody in Nigeria as a political refugee. I got your contact during my search for a stranger that can cooperate with me in this mutual transaction. I want you to note that this business will benefit both of us. However, you must confirm your ability to handle this because it involves a large amount of money. The money (47 million US DOLLARS is my share of my father's estate). I boxed and shipped the money to a security company IN Europe at the peak of the war/political crisis that rocked my country few years ago. Now the crisis has abated i am looking for a person like you to proceed to the place of the security company in order to clear the fund and invest on my behalf as I dont want my name to be used for now as i realise very much the type of hatred late kabila the former head of state has for my late father and even his son who is now the head of state. Note that I will send to you the relevant documents that will enable you take possesion of the the fund for onward investment for our mutual benefit. All I need from you is as follows: 1. A committment that you will keep the transaction strictly confidential. 2. Your confirmation of your ability to handle this. 3. Your telephone and fax numbers including mobile for easy communication. 4. Your full permanent address. As soon as I get the above information from you, I will disclose to you the name and the country of the security company so that you can make arrangements to travel and collect the luggages.Note that this is a very safe transaction as this money is my share of my father's estate. I am waiting for your response via email:[EMAIL PROTECTED] to enable us proceed. Regards. SEKOU MOSHOOD.

Re: Bug#144242: is this progress bar problem [http://bugs.debian.org/144242] fixed in cvs (2002-04-09+10)?
On Don, 25 Apr 2002, Hrvoje Niksic wrote: Hello, Judging by the provided `strace' output, it seems that your problem is caused by the network or perhaps even by the remote server. Wget sleeps on `select', waiting for the connection to close. That should not happen -- if the connection is not persistent (which in this case it isn't), it should close immediately after the data is received. There is/was no problem with wget. Here is the solution/answer from the bug reporter --8--quote--8-- This bug is to do with `transparent' web proxying in our College (Abstract livesdown the hall from me). I've suffered the same problem before from certain sites. It is fixed by setting the http_proxy environment variable or with the --no-http-keep-alive option. --8--quote--8-- Thanks for your help! -- Noèl Köthe
