Virus mails

2002-04-26 Thread Brix Lichtenberg

You know, I'm really not one to complain about the usual spam. Of
course it's annoying, but I think sorting it out and deleting it is
outweight by far by the benefit of the list.

But I'm still getting three or more virus mails with attachments 100k+
daily from the wget lists and they're blocking my mailbox (dial-up). And
getting those dumb "system warnings" accompanying them doesn't make it
better. Isn't there really no way to stop that (at least disallow
attachments)? Patches and such still can be pasted into the text,
can't they?

oops, should have gone to list, sorry

agree fully, can the sys admin pull his proverbial fingers out
as soon as possible and have this list professionally semi-automatically
operate to the benefit of participants not to the benefit of
wayward, spammers and lazy advertisers!

Where are the unsub instructions btw ?

I agree. Why not treat any mail with an attachment as suspect. Let the
moderators approve any valid messages.

Please be patient. It only took a few years for the list admin to start
trying to reduce SPAM. Let's not try to rush him into anything. After
all, who knows what kind of useful information could be lost if virus
laden messages were to be blocked from transmision to their intended
recipients.

Of course, this list admin also feels that it's OK to tell someone that
you don't care what they have to say on anything, except one question that
you're asking (list open to non-subscribers).

According to 'http://wget.sunsite.dk/#mailinglists', all you have to do is
send an E-mail to '[EMAIL PROTECTED]'.

Good luck.

I'm trying to understand the message behind the sarcasm here. Do you
honestly think that each person who asks a question should "pay" for
the answer by listening to what you have to say on any other subject?

Let me remind you that this is a bug list.

As for the spam, I am really sorry about it. The sunsite people have
not been fast in setting up the filters, but they're working on it.
