Re: [Wiki-research-l] How to collect all the admin-specific edits for a subset of Wp admins

2013-10-10 Thread Haitham Shammaa
Have you tried to use Api Sandbox?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:ApiSandbox

You can, by example, query the admins actions by setting up a query on
"list=logevents" and then specify various parameters.

It's an easy and powerful tool.

Re: [Wiki-research-l] What's the average number of edits per day on English Wikipedia?

2013-05-07 Thread Haitham Shammaa
Hi Jodi,

This page gives you the number of days in which each 10M edits were made.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Katalaveno/TBE

This page is particularly helpful in looking at the variation of edit
number by time.

I'm not aware of any research on WP or commons images, but these two
articles use Wikipedia to improve image classification.

Re: [Wiki-research-l] # of searches where WP is the first hit?

2012-11-13 Thread Haitham Shammaa
Alexa gives some info on clickstream, but regardless of the search result
order (e.g. 23.54% from google).

It also gives where visitors go on Wikipedia.org, which is helpful to get
information about language breakdown (58%:En, 7.5:De)

http://www.alexa.com/siteinfo/wikipedia.org

Hope this is helpfuI, although it`s not perfectly what you are looking for.

Re: [Wiki-research-l] PT-WP page view spike

2012-08-06 Thread Haitham Shammaa
This is a sort of a frequently occurring phenomena.

One recent examples from the english Wikipedia :
http://stats.grok.se/en/latest90/Help:Contents/Resources_and_lists
http://stats.grok.se/en/latest90/Help:Contents/Resources_and_lists
http://stats.grok.se/en/latest90/Help:Contents/Communication
http://stats.grok.se/en/latest90/Help:Contents/Browsing_Wikipedia

If we excluded the possibility of failure during data acquisition or data
processing, it is very hard to predict the exact reasons, specially on
large Wikimedia projects due to the high complexity of the site structure,
and the continues changes taking place on it.

One of the general reasons for this could be adding a link at a highly
accessed page (e.g. main page, welcome template, mediawiki page .. etc) or
making the existing links more visible or emphasized, and then reverting
these change after a few days.

Wish this was helpful.
