For example: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/api.php?action=query&list=backlinks&blredirect&bllimit=100&blnamespace=0&blfilterredir=redirects&bltitle=Plural shows that there are many articles that redirect to "Plural" when in fact they redirect to other articles. [Bug 16801] Change position of link to last flagged revisions on RC and watchlist
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=16801 Melancholie changed: What|Removed |Added CC||wiki.melancho...@web.de --- Comment #5 from Melancholie 2008-12-28 16:47:49 UTC --- @P. Birken: Bug 16636 was just filed following https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=16489#c5 (comment 5), per https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=16489#c7 (comment 7). If I hadn't separated it, someone else would have done it. Frankly, I am (and was) not the biggest fan of bug 16489 anyway, see https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=16489#c9. But I see it as some kind of necessary and acceptable compromise. Some people use RecentChanges, to *watch all* pages, others use their customised watchlist. For the same purpose, the first is unfiltered, the second is filtered (only containing *some* pages). There is no other difference between those pages, WatchLists are individual RecentChanges. Actually, *every* edit should be checked, but when there is bug 16489 there also should be bug 16636. Consistency is an important quality, yet missing in MediaWiki often enough. And WLs are as bloated and crowded as RCs, that's a general problem. Once again (referring to your e-mail), FlaggedRevs doesn't belong to Germans, it is not at all owned by or eligible for de.WP in any way. A good software fits the needs of all its users around the world, and it can be customised. Hiding/disabling features by default (or making them inconsistent) is never a good idea, just because normal/un-privileged users will not know of that features and will not directly be able to make use of those features. Hiding something you are aware of - and somehow don't like - is just as easy! Especially on Wikimedia (even important) features often are only made available for a wiki if a privileged user on that wiki is aware of a certain feature/extension, aware of bugzilla and able+willing to file a request and to wait for it to be enabled. Luckily, FlaggedRevs currently has an very ambitious developer, with a 'meta-like' overview and a clear concept. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are on the CC list for the bug. ___ Wikibugs-l mailing list Wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wikibugs-l

[Bug 16821] New: Make centralnotice collapse preference global/cross-site
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=16821 Summary: Make centralnotice collapse preference global/cross-site Product: MediaWiki extensions Version: any Platform: All OS/Version: All Status: NEW Severity: enhancement Priority: Normal Component: CentralNotice AssignedTo: br...@wikimedia.org ReportedBy: br...@wikimedia.org Currently the collapse/expand state for the centralnotice banner is stored in a domain-specific browser cookie. For those not using the secure.wikimedia.org interface (which puts all wikis on a single domain), this means they have to click the collapse thingy for every wiki they visit. Further, if you visit the wikis from multiple computers or multiple browsers, the collapse state doesn't come with you. :( For people who are logged in with a global account, it ought to be possible to stick the collapse/expand state into some kind of global preference that goes with the account; thus once logged in you'd stick with the option anywhere. This however would be dependent on having an infrastructure for maintaining such preferences, *and* some way to save it. :P (bug 14950?) I'm pretty sure we won't get to this in the next couple weeks, but this would be good to target to have done before the 2009-2010 fundraiser. [Bug 16822] New: Provide SSL/HTTPS interface to upload.wikimedia. org and use it for SSL-served pages
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=16822 Summary: Provide SSL/HTTPS interface to upload.wikimedia.org and use it for SSL-served pages Product: Wikimedia Version: unspecified Platform: All URL: https://secure.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/wiki/Main_Page OS/Version: All Status: NEW Severity: enhancement Priority: Normal Component: General/Unknown AssignedTo: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org ReportedBy: br...@wikimedia.org Currently we pull images (and CentralNotice JS) from http://upload.wikimedia.org even for pages accessed over SSL on https://secure.wikimedia.org/ This has a few problems: 1) An attacker on an open network or MITM can see which images you're loading. Creepy! 2) A MITM attacker could replace your images with something malicious/nasty (moderately annoying) 3) A MITM attacker could replace JS files with something malicious (JavaScript injection -> could take over your session) We didn't pay too much attention to the image issues originally since existing browsers don't seem to care much about images being loaded from an insecure URL; but Firefox 3.1b2 now complains about this and considers your page to be "mixed" secure/insecure, throwing up a dialog box (at least the first time) and giving you a broken lock icon which indicates an insecure page view, which is worrying. Ideally we could provide an HTTPS proxy on https://upload.wikimedia.org for maximum convenience; alternately a proxy via https://secure.wikimedia.org/upload or such might be easier to set up in the short term. The CentralNotice JS issue, which affects existing browsers and is more worrying, could be dealt with by providing an alternate location to access the files or a temporary proxy, or via direct hits to Special:NoticeText. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug. [Bug 16823] New: Sidebar search form should not use Special: Search view URL as target
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=16823 Summary: Sidebar search form should not use Special:Search view URL as target Product: MediaWiki Version: unspecified Platform: All URL: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Search?search=fooey &go=Go OS/Version: All Status: NEW Keywords: bugmonday, easy Severity: normal Priority: Normal Component: Search AssignedTo: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org ReportedBy: br...@wikimedia.org Blocks: 16358 The mini search form in the sitebar uses a view URL for Special:Search as the form submission target/action. This tends to produce a final URL like this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Search?search=fooey&go=Go While pretty, it has the distinct disadvantage that it frequently collides with "pretty URL" configurations whose rewrite rules don't pass on the original query string... So for instance the incoming URL fragment: /wiki/Special:Search?search=fooey&go=Go might get rewritten into: /index.php?title=Special:Search and our actual search parameters are gone. We then get bug reports, mails, or IRC visitors asking why search doesn't work on their wiki. The sidebar form should instead use the script target, the way Special:Search's form does: this produces a URL which will work on any configuration, and will reduce the incidence of surprises. AFAIK we don't explicitly create any other URLs where we append parameters to a view URL in this way, and we should be avoiding it here too. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug. https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=16545 --- Comment #13 from Mike.lifeguard 2008-12-28 22:12:35 UTC --- (In reply to comment #7) > Either all global bots have rights on the local wiki, or none of them do. > > The [[Special:GlobalUsers/Global bot]] page is an accurate list of all global > accounts which are in the 'Global bot' group, which may or may not have rights > on the local wiki. > Noting whether their rights apply to the wiki would be nice then: # Aibot (exists locally, global bot, rights apply here) ...or something like that. Most users probably don't know to check (or if they do, how to actually do it) if a certain wiki is in a certain wiki set. We shouldn't be obnoxious about this kind of thing.(In reply to comment #2) > (In reply to comment #1) > > Special:ListUsers lists only local rights. > > Does it need to be so? > Yes - global groups may not (usually don't) share the same rights as their local "counterpart". Global bots have an arbitrary, changeable, set of rights which are not necessarily the same as local bots. For example, rollbackers and global rollbackers *don't* have the same rights! -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug. https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1035 --- Comment #26 from Aryeh Gregor 2008-12-28 22:30:46 UTC --- I'm guessing that's not sorted in a sensible fashion. I.e., it's presumably sorted by the IP address, not by date. If it's sorted by date, it's probably querying a heck of a lot of rows. Just because something performs well enough for a JS hack to not be so horrible that the sysadmins track it down and delete it because it's causing things to explode, doesn't mean it performs well enough to be put in the core software. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug. https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1035 --- Comment #28 from Aryeh Gregor 2008-12-28 22:35:26 UTC --- If that would be acceptable, then sure, that could be added to the human interface. Something similar is already available in the API. http://en.wikipedia.org/w/api.php?action=query&list=usercontribs&uclimit=50&ucuserprefix=217.123 That doesn't allow CIDR ranges, but you could filter it reasonably cheaply in most cases (I assume that Splarka's tool does that), so it would be acceptable to add. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug.
