Ok, I think I got it. It _was_ the wrong message. I should have looked at
:commons:MediaWiki:Mywatchlist instead, which indeed does have a lot of
uselang hack subpages and is lacking the ones for fi-Suomi.

Apparently whoever configured that fi upload form did it only halfway. :-( So
it's indeed configured all on-wiki.

If the live count were changed to be outgoing links, then matters would be
much
improved - though removing the link/[[ restriction completely would be another
acceptable solution.

If the count were to use the link tables rather than some criterion based on
the article text, refreshing this count would be a lot easier.

[Bug 15402] Performance optimization for sortable tables

It seems that most if not all of the optimizations don't affect Firefox 3. You
can see this with the HTML demonstration files I uploaded. On my machine,
sorting each column takes around 14 seconds in IE7 without the optimizations,
and between 0.5 and 1.5 seconds (depending on the column) with the
optimizations. In Firefox 3 there's no measurable difference as far as I can
tell; in either case it is roughly as fast as IE7 with the optimizations.

-Mike

I guess that means Firefox 3 optimizes stuff on its own pretty well.

(In reply to comment #24)
(In reply to comment #19)
The fact is that you're just flaunting your
memorization of policies and rules and know next to nothing about the
actual subject. Do you think this makes your actual involvement meaningful?
This wasn't directed to me, of course, so I'll just note that to get code
committed, you need to write code that works well (which means you gotta know
what you're doing pretty well) *and* follow our rules concerning stuff like
code style. Even if someone can't help you out on the first part, they can
(and, in this case, do) still point out which rules you aren't following, which
is obviously meaningful.

It's interesting how your implicit claim about not being rude in bug 15402
comment #22 contrasts with this comment.

Aryeh is right that discussions about changing the ALT text has little to do
with reverse sorting. Since the reverse sorting part is a lot less
controversial that changing the ALT text, it's probably wiser to file a
separate bug for the latter, so the former can be resolved more smoothly. Also,
discussions about two different things at the same time are generally
discouraged around here.

On a side note, PHP reports this as being fixed now.

That's nice, but it means that older versions of PHP still have broken JSON

fall back to our own JSON formatter if PHP's is broken.

If a page is deleted, its removed from the RC table, the same should be true
for a page moved over a redirect, as the original redirect is essentially
deleted before the move (the redirect revision is actually completely
inaccessible, that might also be considered a bug). Reopened and summary
updated. When moving a page over a redirect, it should remove the RC entry for
the original page creation if it still exists, and its possibly skipping other
things that normal deletion does.

[Bug 16921] New: Comments may be cut off on page moves and page protections

2009-01-07 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=16921

Summary: Comments may be cut off on page moves and page

 Product: MediaWiki

 Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
 Severity: normal
 Priority: Normal
Component: History/Diffs
AssignedTo: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org
ReportedBy: church.of.emacs...@gmail.com

If you protect a page or move a page, you often want to give detailed reasons
for that, and unfortunately if your comment is too long, it is cut off and not
fully saved in the history[1]. Editing a page solve this problem through a
maxlength=200 in the input-tag. There does not seem to be a limit in the
forms of page moves and page protections.

It'd be nice to have a new parameter value for diff, for example diff=review
(index.php?title=Page_that_needs_to_be_revieweddiff=review). It should display
the diff between the last reviewed version and the current. That'd make some
work a lot easier (for example: There is a page where you can request a page to
be sighted at the German Wikipedia. Currently, the user has to give the oldid
of the article, which is too complicated for many newbies.)

Inconsistencies can always arise. Whenever they occur, developers try to fix

So the state of the bug was already fixed before r45374, and r45374 was
simply a cleanup for a notice warning in the already-existing fix?

Leaving as WONTFIX only feeds the
impression that devs are incompetent when it comes to non-tech matters with
the

the page you linked contains the following quote:

just found that amusing in the context :)

[Bug 16925] New: Diffs silently fail when $wgExternalDiffEngine is set to ' wikidiff2' but extension is not installed

2009-01-07 Thread bugzilla-daemon

Summary: Diffs silently fail when $wgExternalDiffEngine is set to

 Product: MediaWiki
 Version: unspecified
 Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
 Severity: enhancement

Component: History/Diffs
AssignedTo: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org
ReportedBy: br...@wikimedia.org

Discovered this when wikitech was moved to new server; wikidiff2 had been set
up as $wgExternalDiffEngine but the PHP extension hadn't been installed on the
new machine.

Diffs failed silently, and were even saved blank into the diff cache. All edits
appeared as thought here were no changes, more or less.

Should either show an error message, fall back to regular diff code, or some
combination thereof; and should definitely not be saving bogus diffs into the
cache!

It's the links after the #REDIRECT on the redirect page itself that resolve,
not just any random wikilink. I attached a screenshot to illustrate what I mean

[Bug 16921] Comments may be cut off on page moves and page protections

2009-01-07 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=16921

--- Comment #2 from church.of.emacs...@gmail.com 2009-01-07 21:29:29 UTC ---
Please note the the protection form has a maxlength of 255 already.

This is correct, however not only the edit comment itself is stored in the
rev_comment (which has the actual 255-byte-limit), but also the automated part
of the comment (Protected pagename: ) and the selectable comment (for
example Counter-productive edit warring: ). So, in total you have (in this
example, with the specified pagename and selectable comment):
Protected Main Page: Counter-productive edit warring:

That's already 60 bytes, so you have only 195 bytes left - much less than the
255 byte limit the user sees!
I don't think a fix his easy here: On one side, you don't know in advance which
selectable comment will be picked (so you can't calculate the actual maximum in
advance), on the other hand I don't think that there's going to be a change in
the data type/255-byte-limit of rev_comment. But even where there's no easy
fix, the least that should be done is to warn the user about this bug.

Initial patch for support for firefogg transcoding and progress uploading.

live demo here:
http://metavid.org/w/index.php/Special:Upload

We are limited here by the upload api and the fact that firefogg only works
with browsers firefox 3.1 and above.

Once we add in an upload api this will work a lot better (won't need to resort
to ugly hackery to figure out if the upload was successful)

Starting just tonight, so possibly a result of r45311 which fixed bug 6749, the
radio buttons on page histories are not aligned any longer. It looks like it's
trying to full-justify all the text, including radio buttons, which is wrong.
This only seems to affect page histories where there are long edit summaries
(ie they wrap to the next line).

[Bug 8028] Table sorting broken by colspan/rowspan

--- Comment #7 from tcncv_nos...@cox.net 2009-01-08 00:28:32 UTC ---
I have taken on the task to get this implemented and a currently have a test
version that seems to work fairly well. To summarize, the enhancements do the
following.

 1. Before sorting, rowspans will be exploded, so that each row is self
contained and can be moved without corrupting the table structure.

 2. During sorting, colspans are recognized and counted when retrieving
column values, so that the proper sort value is retrieved from each row. Each
column in a colspan range is treated as having the same value. Colspans are
preserved – they are not split.

 3. After sorting, some cell ranges may be recombined under certain
restrictive conditions (still being refined). Also, the class=autorowspan
option can be applied to column headers or the entire table to enable more
aggressive rowspan combines, such as combining cells in the newly sorted column
that were not originally combined.

My current demo code in
, and some sample tables
are located in . The
demo requires that you add importScript('User:Tcncv/sorttables.js'); to your
User:Xxx/monobook.js file (or whatever skin you use).

I plan on doing some code cleanup and more testing before formally submitting
the change (with documentation and test cases). I have tested it on recent
versions of Firefox, Netscape and IE, but will need help testing on other
browsers and older versions. I have already received some encouraging feedback
from some WikiProject Olympics editors, but would like to hear from a wider
audience. If you have the time, please take a look and let me know what you
think.

This also affects alignment on contribs pages, and elsewhere probably.

Turning off the justify paragraphs preference fixes this. However, that
preference should apply only to actual page text - not history or contributions
pages.

http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Special:Code/MediaWiki/comments

Even better would be, if Special:Code/MediaWiki/comments/123 could take the
user to the revision page with comment with such id, resp. to such page
fragment there.

[Bug 16933] New: Media: links mishandled

2009-01-07 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=16933

 Summary: Media: links mishandled
 Product: MediaWiki
 Version: 1.14-svn
 Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
 Severity: normal
 Priority: Normal
Component: Page rendering
AssignedTo: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org
ReportedBy: dann...@email.cz

Media: links are mishandled in some cases.

I'll use eg. File:Glottal stop.ogg from Commons:

1)
Type Media:Glottal stop.ogg into search box on any wiki. It will take you to
the bage with URL /wiki/Media:Glottal stop.ogg, but the headline says
File:Glottal stop.ogg and that it does not exist, do you want to upload new?

2)
Type in
Sandbox. Clicking the icon-link will take you to the same page with the same
behavior as described in 1).

[Bug 4323] Send a diff in email on page changes in addition to URL

--- Comment #8 from Greg Sabino Mullane g...@turnstep.com 2009-01-08

It's not been maintained moving forward, but it does work great, and has been
used successfully for years on production wikis. Please vote for it in bugzilla
if you would like to see it get more attention. If I get time, I'll try and
make an updated version at some point, and post it here.

A preference to set if recipient does or does not want to receive the diff too
or link only should come along with this feature.

Note that this not only occurs for talk pages, also for
wikt:de:Wiktionary:Auskunft‎ e.g. (former IP edits get auto-patrolled
through an pure edit too, no log entry is produced at all).

[Bug 16935] New: Diff highlighting wrong spaces

I changed something...

From:
]] , [[

To:
]], [[

This means that the space BEFORE the comma was removed. But as you can see in
the diff from the link, it's the space AFTER the comma that was highlighted in
green.

Re-opening. Original poster was looking for prettier links. /w/index.php?oldid=
