I have written an extension to do this:
http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:SubstControl

It works using two MediaWiki: namespace pages to list templates that should
always and should never be substituted, therefore only sysops (by default) can
specify which templates should be affected. I have no idea if it stable enough
for the likes of Wikipedia though.

The fix is not working properly -> reopening.

1) On basic (no from= in URL) recent changes it adds an empty line.
2) On RC with additional line it adds and empty line between that info line and
the rest of fieldset. The legend must also precede all other stuff thus should
be swapped with that additional line.

[Bug 189] Add a music wikimodule

https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=189

--- Comment #67 from Aryeh Gregor   2009-01-24
23:52:18 UTC ---
We want LilyPond to be as safe to call as, say, ImageMagick (or ABC!). If it's
configured correctly, we should be guaranteed that it will terminate in a
reasonably short amount of time while using a reasonably small amount of
memory/disk/network/etc. I think this is a clear enough requirement to relay.
Alternatively, if LilyPond devs won't do this, someone could write a
preprocessing sanitizer of some kind like we have for LaTeX, as long as it
achieves the same effect.

I'm not personally interested in spending time trying to do this myself, sorry.
 I'm already spending more time on this feature than I'd like given that I'll
never use it. I'm not going to post any more about this unless I have
something further to add.

+   if ( isset( $this->mDoubleUnderscores['nounusedcat'] ) &&
$this->mTitle->getNamespace() == NS_CATEGORY ) {
+   $this->mOutput->setProperty( 'nounusedcat', 'y' );
+   }

I don't see any code to remove this property when it's been removed from the
page -- does the Parser do that implicitly? I.e., if the magic word is
removed, does it start showing up in UnusedCategories again?

+   AND pp_propname IS NULL
+   OR pp_propname != 'nounusedcat'";

I would prefer to see parentheses here: AND (... OR ...). Otherwise it's not
clear to me that the logic is correct (I can't remember which way the
association goes, and I'm sure I'm not the only one).

'hiddencat'  => array( 1,'__HIDDENCAT__'  ),
+   'nounusedcat'=> array( 1,'__NOUNUSEDCAT__'
  ),
'pagesincategory'=> array( 1,'PAGESINCATEGORY',
'PAGESINCAT' ),

Indentation is wrong here.

I'm not sure I like the name __NOUNUSEDCAT__. It's fairly confusing.
Something like __SKIPUNUSED__ or __IGNOREUNUSED__ or something like that would
be better -- maybe it really is unused, but we want to ignore that fact, is the
point.

[Bug 17151] New: Update MessagesVi.php

2009-01-24 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=17151

   Summary: Update MessagesVi.php
   Product: MediaWiki
   Version: 1.9.6
  Platform: All
   URL: http://vi.wikipedia.org
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
  Severity: minor
  Priority: Normal
 Component: Internationalization
AssignedTo: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org
ReportedBy: dhngu...@gmail.com

Created an attachment (id=5729)
 --> (https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/attachment.cgi?id=5729)
File which fixed the typo

There appears to be a typo in the current LanguagesVi.php file in line 109,
where it defines the alias for the magic word "redirect". The correct word is
"đổi", but it is displayed as "đôỉ", although if you copy that text and
paste it somewhere else, it is normalized as "đổi" - I suspect that it was
written with combining characters instead of precomposed characters. Using
#đổi in place of #redirect at the Vietnamese Wikipedia does not work.

Enclosed is a MessagesVi.php file with the error fixed.

[Bug 17150] New: escapeLike should double escape \

2009-01-24 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=17150

   Summary: escapeLike should double escape \
   Product: MediaWiki
   Version: 1.15-svn
  Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
  Severity: normal
  Priority: Normal
 Component: Database
AssignedTo: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org
ReportedBy: niklas.laxst...@gmail.com

In http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.0/en/string-comparison-functions.html
there is note:

Because MySQL uses C escape syntax in strings (for example, “\n” to
represent a newline character), you must double any “\” that you use in
LIKE strings. For example, to search for “\n”, specify it as “\\n”. To
search for “\”, specify it as “”; this is because the backslashes
are stripped once by the parser and again when the pattern match is made,
leaving a single backslash to be matched against. (Exception: At the end of the
pattern string, backslash can be specified as “\\”. At the end of the
string, backslash stands for itself because there is nothing following to
escape.)

This will break if literal \ is in user input, failing to provide matches.
PostgreSQL seems to have same behaviour. Suggested fix is to escape \ one more
time in escapeLike:

-   $s=str_replace(array('%','_'),array('\%','\_'),$s);
+   $s=str_replace(array('%','_','\\'),array('\%','\_',''),$s);

[Bug 17149] New: We need to be able to move images

Intending to move "File:Ladakh Monestary.jpg" to "File:Ladakh Monastery.jpg"
(correcting the misspelling), I found that there is no "move" button for
images. I'm being told one must actually download the image and upload it with
the new title.

That has to be considered a bug because the edit history is lost.

[Bug 13250] clearing one's watchlist

My watchlist has over 65,000 pages on it and deleting them all via
Special:Watchlist/raw results in a server timeout. I asked about my watchlist
here: [[Wikipedia:Help_desk#Watchlist_too_big]]

I want to clear my watchlist and I tried the 'log in as another user' trick as
described by Alex Smotrov at
[[Wikipedia:Village_pump_(technical)/Archive_24#Empty_Watchlist.3F]], but I got
a server timeout. What are the steps again?

I think Mikkalai was worried about the "Clear watchlist" function because that
user didn't know if they would be asked to confirm the action:
http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Help_talk:Watching_pages#Confirmation_asked_before_clearing_watchlist

Could r26980 be undone so Special:Watchlist&action=clear works (for those rare
occasions when a watchlist grows too large), yet make the option to clear the
watchlist not visible in the user interface if it worries people?

If a page has been moved since it has been protected, the one-entry log extract

"moved protection settings from Foo to Bar" instead of the actual protection
act. Not sure how best to resolve this, but it's definitely a bug.

[Bug 16659] Prettify permalinks

2009-01-24 Thread bugzilla-daemon

That was me Gurch. I've created an account here.

I would like the "Permanent link" hyperlink in the left sidebar toolbox to show
the title field like it previously did before r45343 to SkinTemplate.php.

(In reply to comment #8)
> Excepting the long-ASCII example, I don't think this is more useful.

I agree with what MeekSaffron said.

And regarding bug 16428, oldids still aren't visible when printable=yes. So
perhaps if or when oldids do become visible in the print version footer, then
the devs can prettify the printfooter permalinks.

These both look nice:
http://en.wikipedia.org/?oldid=260905624
http://en.wikipedia.org/revision/260905624

If you don't want to undo r45343, perhaps an additional line could be added to
the toolbox so it displays:
Short permament link ---> http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?oldid=260905624
Titled permanent link --->
http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Main_Page&oldid=260905624

If the software treats all permalinks the same, could it be modified to
distinguish between untitled and titled permalinks (or toolbox permalinks and
printfooter permalinks)? I apologize if I've crossed bugs at all, or if my
suggestions merit a new bug report.

Would it be rocking the boat too much to suggest that this bug gets upgraded to
a severity above normal? I know it doesn't matter too too much, but it
might make us more likely to solve it ;)

It's just that most reasonably sized wikis tend to have categories with >200
articles and categories that large will quite often have subcategories and it's
really not obvious to a user what's going on when they see only SOME of the
subcategories on the first page.

Patch against languages/Language.php to let it return results for utf-8 terms

Before being entered into the searchindex table, utf-8 encoded strings are
converted to a special notation: eg. dämon becomes du8c3a4mon; the search form
does the same transform, but with an uppercase U8 escape - so the search fails
in mysql.

Attached patch lets utf-8 search terms return results.

[Bug 17143] New: Introduce magic word that restricts certain categories ( and their sub-categories) to the article namespace.

2009-01-24 Thread bugzilla-daemon

OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
  Severity: enhancement
  Priority: Normal
 Component: Categories
AssignedTo: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org
ReportedBy: church.of.emacs...@gmail.com

On Wikipedia, there is the following problem: Often, if a new article is badly
written or unfinished, it is moved from the article namespace to the user
namespace (as a subpage of the creator's user page). This is a compromise which
ensures the quality of Wikipedia (as the bad article is no longer part of the
encyclopedia) and gives the user the chance to improve the article and then
move it back in ns-0.
However, pages that are moved from the encyclopedic namespace to a user
namespace still appear in categories, that are reserved for encyclopedic
articles. This shouldn't be the case, as those articles where moved into user
space to remove them from the encyclopedic sector.

Therefor it'd be useful to have a magic word, perhaps something like:
__NAMESPACEZEROONLY__, which restricts certain categories (such as
Category:Articles) and their subcategories to pages in ns-0. User pages would
still have the link to those categories, but they wouldn't appear in them as
long as they are in the user namespace.
