Changed to Priority High. suppressredirect has been enabled on all WMF wikis
for sysops ([[:bugzilla:14998]]), and therefor this bug becomes more urgent.
This is a really big transparency issue, as no information is shown and there
is no link to the move log (see (2) in the original bug description). Only if
you go manually to Special:Log/move and search for the page name, you get the
log (but only few people know how to do this, I guess).

It concerns me that you are describing the situation as a hostile political
power struggle between the two projects and inviting them to a fight with your
accusations and this bugzilla is the last place we want any fights. Developers,
who do decisions, which should be based on facts and opinions of involved
parties, are now afraid of making any changes. Throwing gasoline on the fire is
not going to solve any struggles there might be.

That was probably an illusion. The figure on Special:Statistics is a rough
estimate of the real figure, it depends mainly on the db slave you're hitting.
en.wikipedia currently uses about 7 slave servers, so you can very well get 7
totally different values, when you reload Special:Statistics a few times.

[Bug 8226] Sortable table date sorting

I'm not sure if we should really support all of these date/time formats. I
certainly like to argue that we definitely shouldn't support numeric formats
such as

31.12.2008
12.31.2008

or worse

31.12.67

The only place people use 12.31.2008 is in the US and on enwiki we use both US
and European formats. Using these ambiguous date should be strongly discourages
and certainly not supported by the sorting script.

Supporting 31.12.67 should be punishable by summary execution!! Same problems
as before and y2k bug anyone! Not to mention the y2050 bug. For an encyclopedia
which tries to have articles written with historical perspective 31.12.67 or
12.31.67 should be a definite no no.

Sometimes less is more. We should just focus on 4 formats commonly used on
enwiki:

1 January 2009
January 1, 2009 (with and without the comma)
1 Jan 2009 (also 01-Jan-2009)
2009-01-01

and leave the rest out to wither and die.

[Bug 17336] New: REQ: Output database queries as XML for AJAX apps

2009-02-03 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=17336

Summary: REQ: Output database queries as XML for AJAX apps
   Product: MediaWiki
   Version: 1.13.2
  Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
  Keywords: need-review, patch
  Severity: enhancement
  Priority: Normal
 Component: Database
AssignedTo: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org
ReportedBy: djn...@gmail.com
CC: djn...@gmail.com

Created an attachment (id=5775)
 -- (https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/attachment.cgi?id=5775)
patch to add XML output to Database.php

When developing extensions or other features that use AJAX and custom database
queries there is no current function to return a database query as an XML
document to the AJAX script.

Attached is a diff file which introduces a function to create an XML document
based on a Database transaction. Insert, Update and Delete queries should
return a boolean value, when parsed through the returnXML() function will
generate an XML document as so:

{for queries that have returned as TRUE}
root
  resultOK/result
/root

{for queries that have returned as FALSE}
root
  resultFAIL/result
/root

Select queries which should return a ResultWrapper object, when parsed throught
the returnXML() function will generate an XML document as so:

root
  result
fieldname_1row1_result1/fieldname_1
fieldname_2row2_result1/fieldname_2
  /result
  result
fieldname_1row1_result2/fieldname_1
fieldname_2row2_result2/fieldname_2
  /result
/root

Where the row_titles are the field names from the database transaction.

This is a valid patch of lucene-based search engine we have built for wikipedia

In rumantsch, we have some different idioms. To organise them, we have decided

reasons, we want to override the titles. I think, we must set

$wgRestrictDisplayTitle = false;

but I have no idea who can do this for us...

One more remark: a quick look into the categorymembers code learns that the
cmcontinue values are not titles, but sortkeys, which is why they're not
normalized (underscores converted to spaces etc.) like titles are.

[Bug 17339] New: User group changes not effective when using UserLoadFromSession hook

2009-02-03 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=17339

Summary: User group changes not effective when using
UserLoadFromSession hook
   Product: MediaWiki
   Version: 1.13.0
  Platform: Sun
   URL: http://(internal)
OS/Version: Solaris
Status: NEW

ReportedBy: puheli...@googlemail.com

MediaWiki 1.13.0
PHP 5.2.6 (apache2handler)
MySQL 5.0.67-log

Warning - you are about to enter the world of X Files!

I have implemented the UserLoadFromSession hook (UserAuthTGST.php code
attached) to authenticate the user via our SSO. It was quite a battle (see bug
17077) but I thought I'd finally sorted it. Apparently not - strap yourself in!
I have two IDs - SS (created in the standard way) and Sam.Sexton (created using
the hook).

When, as SS, I gave Sam.Sexton sysop and bureaucrat access, the latter could
see the restricted pages in Special Pages. However, when I granted someone
group membership via the User rights management page, instead of clearing the
group list etc., the page refreshed showing the boxes I'd ticked as empty.

I did some research and updated the hook so that it called User-loadFromId()
rather than loadFromDatabase(), as the former manages the cache. That was
successful, but it made no effective difference. I have turned on SQL debugging
and can see where the successful and failing paths diverge.

Before I show you those, the problem disappeared for Sam.Sexton after I
commented out the hook definition in LocalSettings, logged in as SS and then
reversed that process - it all works fine for Sam.Sexton now but the problem
persists with users to whom I have granted admin rights.

Here is the indication of the successful call to loadFromId() from my own
logging file:

[Bug 17340] New: Notification messages not being sent despite preferences being set

2009-02-03 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=17340

Summary: Notification messages not being sent despite preferences
being set
   Product: Wikimedia
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
  Severity: normal
  Priority: Normal
 Component: OTRS
AssignedTo: tstarl...@wikimedia.org
ReportedBy: ultrab...@gmail.com

I am not being sent any notifications of new tickets in my queues, or of
follow-up to tickets I own, despite having the respective preferences set to
Yes, and despite me receiving follow-ups and there obviously being new
tickets.

The histories of tickets still show the notifications being sent out. See for
example the following ticket history:

https://ticket.wikimedia.org/otrs/index.pl?Action=AgentTicketHistoryTicketID=2378671

SendAgentNotification FollowUp-notification sent to ultrab...@gmail.com. -
 r...@localhost (Admin OTRS) 02/03/2009 06:12:21

I never received that notification. According to Mark Bergsma, the Wikimedia
email server hasn't had anything to do with my email address (ultrablue at
gmail) at all today, when the above notification was purportedly sent out.

The last notification email I received was at 09:30 31 January 2009 (UTC). At
least one other user in the IRC channel has the same situation as me, receiving
their final notification at the same time.

This situation is only slightly annoying to me (I keep having to log in to OTRS
to check for follow-up) but if others are experiencing it too, it might be more
worrisome.

/me raises his hand for being the other user on IRC.

Actually, I should receive email notification on any action but I am not
getting any. For new messages I am in the recipients list or new messages
(which I dont get), for follow ups I am not on that list
https://ticket.wikimedia.org/otrs/index.pl?Action=AgentTicketHistoryTicketID=2396703
I already had my mail address changed from freenet to gmail by an OTRS admin
which had no effect at all.

[Bug 835] syntax to transclude a page without the containing page inheriting categories , interlanguage links

2009-02-03 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=835

--- Comment #61 from cenarium.sy...@gmail.com 2009-02-03 15:42:00 UTC ---
It cannot handle pages with dynamically transcluded templates and would be
difficult to use for sandboxes and draft pages, which is almost all the use for
this on enwiki (we have thousands, see for example [[Wikipedia:Database
reports/Polluted categories]]).

There is only nocat ... /nocat that can handle this, and decat ...
/decat for demonstration/new user pages such as sandboxes, articles for
creation...

I think the names are different enough, nocat for No Category, and decat for
decategorize. __DECATEGORY__ and __NOCATEGORY__ are not especially needed if we
have the tags.

Hmm, I do not understand why an underscore instead of %20 is making the API to
output a template's data suddenly. Isn't that a bug?

Furthermore, is there a easy way to also allow underlines, beside spaces and
%20? If not, at least make sure the results won't be those of other namespaces
mysteriously (as there is no colon at all).

No, Platonides was incorrect. The first request lists pages from both the main
and Template namespaces, the second requests lists only pages in the template
namespaces. It's the same list, but with a different starting point.

Furthermore, is there a easy way to also allow underlines, beside spaces and
%20? If not, at least make sure the results won't be those of other namespaces

They're SORTKEYS, not TITLES, as I said before. Sortkeys aren't normalizable or
namespace-bound because they can literally be any string that doesn't contain
]].

No other Code has been changed between these two testcases. The edittoken is
 requested with action=queryprop=infointoken=edittitles=Pagename and is
working with the edit request on mode a). But in mode b) a badtoken error is
returned. All data (login, edittoken, edit) is send via a http-post request.

Can you check whether your edit token just happens to be +\ (without any hash
in front of it)?

Update last patch

Updated patch against current trunk. Didn't apply cleanly, so I had to do it
manually. Couldn't patch ApiQueryImages, as the file has changed far too much
since the patch was written (Roan said he'd redo that patch).

The only other problem I had in ApiQueryRevisions:
- $limit = $startid = $endid = $start = $end = $dir = $prop =
$user = $excludeuser = $expandtemplates = $section = $token = null;
+ $limit = $startid = $endid = $start = $end = $dir = $prop =
$user = $excludeuser = $expandtemplates = $section = $token = $continue = null;

The former line doesn't exist anymore either, so I dunno how to fix it really.
Other than those minor issues, this should be pretty much ready to go.

The opinion on the bokmål wikipedia is not really relevant (nor particularly
interesting), as the no-code is bokmål+nynorsk. Thus, the same way that I dont
have any legitimate right to refuse my brother part of the inheritance from my
father, the same way bokmål wikipedia doesnt have any legitimate right to
refuse nynorskwikipedia the same access to this code. And I repeat, if the
Wikimdeia Foundation, or some other higher authority, does not take a decision
to move to nb, they will in fact STILL have supported one side, that is the
side supporting the statusn quo. There is in fact, really no neutral position
on this, a non-decision is ALSO a decision!

(In reply to comment #0)
The query module (e.g. userinfo) ist working regardless i use
 centralauth_User/Token/Session or dewikiUsername/Token/Session as cookie.
Changing a page content using the api-edit-module only works with the local
cookie. Sending only the three centralauth-Cookies on an edit request returns
 a
 badtoken-error.

Because the local cookie names and values change on each wiki it would be nice
to not relogin on every wiki.

This is gonna be non-trivial to reproduce for me, so can you make sure that you
used the same cookies for the token request and the edit request? The token
depends on your cookie, so you can't get a token with a deWiki cookie and use
it with a centralauth cookie (that's more or less the point of tokens).

Please try using one set of tokens (only the deWiki ones or only the
centralauth ones) for both the token retrieval and the edit request, and see if
the issue persists.

i think also there are many people who wants to enable/disable the
advanced search.
I suggest a new global boolean var:

$wgPowerSearchSelection - if false nothing happens , the advanced search shows
as mediawiki now: all checkboxes of all namespaces.

-if true then triggers to read the $wgNamespacesToBeSearchedDefault array
values and show just this checkboxes options.

It's not a problem that the log entry still exists. The problem is that you can
-search- the deleted log entries. If the log entry XYZ's phone number is
555-12345 is deleted, you can search for 555-12345 at Special:Log and find
that (deleted) log entry. That way you can easily find out what a deleted log
entry contained, with the use of some brute force.

https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=17342

--- Comment #5 from Splarka h...@goldrush.com 2009-02-04 00:45:33 UTC ---
That way you can easily find out what a deleted log
entry contained, with the use of some brute force.

Giving this a try, there is (as of this writing) one oversight-level hidden
revision on test.wikipedia. With some guessing, I was able to narrow this down
to a log entry, in the deletion log, by DerHexer:
http://test.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special%3ALogtype=deleteuser=DerHexerpage=year=month=-1

Now, finding the target of this deletion log entry is a bit of work but...

There are less than 10,000 deleted articles in the main namespace (and a few
thousand in all the rest combined), and approx 20,000 undeleted pages in all
namespaces. As it is a deletion entry, it applies to either a deleted article,
a deleted revision, an undeletion, or a visibility change on a revision or log
entry.

If it is a log entry, you could brute force which type of log via
Special:Log/delete?page=Special:Log/block Special:Log/delete
Special:Log/makebot etc.

If it is a deleted page you could brute force by checking the Special:Log?page=
of all deleted pages (using deletedrevs via the API to find the titles, which
requires a sysop flag, but as this is an oversight-level hidden entry, it
should be hidden from sysops). This is shown automatically on action=edit, for
example:
http://test.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Category:APPERaction=editredlink=1
so someone may find it accidentally.

If it is a deleted revision of a non-deleted page, you could find it via
action=history of all undeleted pages.

Note that none of these methods seem to expose the comment content of a hidden
log entry, but the user and target page/log title can be found.

As for the alternate case, of trying to expose a hidden revision, it doesn't
seem you can expose the content or comment of the revision either, just find
the user and target page in the same method as above.

Note that deleted log entries are _not_ shown in the API, nor do any of the
list=logevents parameters match deleted information. The UI and API should
probably match behavior.

[Bug 17343] New: Delete log in Recentchanges, but not log

2009-02-03 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=17343

Summary: Delete log in Recentchanges, but not log
   Product: MediaWiki
   Version: 1.13.3
  Platform: All
   URL: http://radioscanningtw.jidanni.org/index.php?title=%E7%8

OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
  Severity: enhancement
  Priority: Normal
 Component: Deleting
AssignedTo: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org
ReportedBy: jida...@jidanni.org

On the above URL we see the link Deletion log, but when we go there,
http://radioscanningtw.jidanni.org/index.php?title=%E7%89%B9%E6%AE%8A:Log/deleteuselang=en
that entry is not there!

Suspecting the Delete page script is a special user,
I even tried adding a bot paramater that I read about on
http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual:User_rights .

If there is a way to reveal the hidden item, then it should me mentioned at the
top of that Log page!

Also let us follow one of the other links offered:
http://radioscanningtw.jidanni.org/index.php?title=%E7%89%B9%E6%AE%8A:Contributions/Delete_page_script
nothing there either.

[Bug 17309] Allow users to delete their own pages

--- Comment #6 from jida...@jidanni.org 2009-02-04 01:50:09 UTC ---
Many of my first time users create pages by mistake and then can't
delete them (I would show you the list, but... Bug #17343),
perhaps leaving my site in frustration never to return.

Instead of needing a call to the fire dept. when they could have
solved it themselves, instead of wasting taxpayers' money, why not:
If creator is them (thus perhaps not the two User:Holmes and User_talk:Holmes
pages, where we want reminders etc. to remain) and the only
editor is them, then allow them to delete it.

Expected in strtotime()

http://uk3.php.net/manual/en/function.strtotime.php

A four-digit number is interpreted as hours and minutes if possible, and
otherwise as year. 1959 is a valid time, 1960 isn't.

It just needs more data than a 4 digit number.
