--- Comment #1 from Markus Krötzsch 2009-02-11

The expansion fails because the query result provides links and not just plain
texts. So the page name you try to expand is enclosed in double brackets, and
hence not expanded by MediaWiki. Adding the parameter link=none to the query
has fixed the problem (see URL).

[Bug 17447] New: Filter review log by auto field

2009-02-11 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=17447

Summary: Filter review log by auto field
   Product: MediaWiki extensions
   Version: any
  Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
  Severity: enhancement
  Priority: Normal
 Component: FlaggedRevs
AssignedTo: jschulz_4...@msn.com
ReportedBy: gti...@gmail.com

Autoreview right should be given to people who are reliable in writing
articles; review to ones who have the ability to quickly and reliably judge the
edits of others. The second does not follow from the first; when a bureaucrat
needs to review a patrollers ("editor" in flagrev terminology) acitvity and
decide whether to withdraw the right, he is typically not interested in the
automatically flagged edits, only the ones flagged manually.

The review log offers an easy way to check one's flagging activity, but there
is currently no way to see only manual flaggings. (Automatic flaggings can be
more or less listed by filtering on the content of the comment.) Such a filter
(or, as a possible hack, an "invert" checkbox to the comment filter field) make
the work of bureaucrats significantly easier.

[Bug 17448] New: Update for Danish language

2009-02-11 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=17448

   Summary: Update for Danish language
   Product: MediaWiki
   Version: 1.15-svn
  Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
  Keywords: patch
  Severity: enhancement
  Priority: Normal
 Component: Internationalization
AssignedTo: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org
ReportedBy: k...@kwi.dk

Created an attachment (id=5803)
 --> (https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/attachment.cgi?id=5803)
Danish message file diff

This patch fixes a number of minor errors in the Danish message file:

* The word "e-mail" was wrongly capitalized in a number of messages (the word
is not capitalized in Danish).
* The "tog-editsectiononrightclick" message missed the "right" part, thus
suggesting a left click.
* "youremail" and "yourrealname" ended with a "*", rather than a ":", for no
obvious reason (all the related messages, as well as the English equivalents,
ends with a ":").
* The word "Bruger-id" ("User ID") was wrongly capitalized in message "uid"
(the word "id" is not capitalized in Danish).
* Fixed incorrect use of an apostrophe in the "passwordsent" message.
* Fixed typos in "eauthentsent", "page_first", "datetime" and
"newuserlog-byemail".
* "allpagesfrom" message changed from a literal translation of the English
message to a more natural wording.

When WikiMedia tries to connect as superuser to perform DB setup with postgres,
it fails because 'makeConnectionString' is not defined.

@$this->mConn = pg_connect( $this->makeConnectionString( $connectVars ) );

Note: not sure I'm using the best password in the patch. Also, I suspect this
may be a missed commit or something, so the alternative fix would be to define
'makeConnectionString'

If you don't want cookies, you cant set $wgCookieExpiration = 0; which since

Just so that this does not only gather dust on his blog, I'm adding this

While we're at it, I guess that Watchlist over XMPP would also be

Diff fiel adding the commit() Database function

Use Case:

A developer is creating an Magic word that creates Wiki Text based on data from
a separate database. When using a special page, or alternate method, to update
the separate database the developer uses the Mediawiki Title class to
invalidate the Cache pages.

However as the code in version 1.13.2 and the current version in SVN does not
commit the database transaction the page_touched field is not updated.

Attached is a Diff file adding in the commit function from the Database class
to ensure that the page_touched field is updated correctly.

[Bug 17407] Some errors with PHP 5.3.0.

--- Comment #6 from Peter B. 2009-02-11 20:47:23 UTC ---
The problem indeed lies in the implementation of the StubObject, it doesn't
forward the call properly (there are some warnings about references too); the
parse () method-call never reaches the Parser class. This is because of a
change in the 5.3 codebase: in previous versions PHP would be silent if you'd
pass values in call_user_func_array, even if they were declared references
(which in theory wouldn't work - there's nothing to reference to). In PHP 5.3
however this throws a warning, and the function call will be aborted. A simple
snippet to reproduce this;

In PHP 5.2 this echos "Hello, world!", in PHP 5.3 nothing other than a warning.
I'm not familiar with the MediaWiki codebase so I wasn't capable of producing a
proper fix, however, disabling the StubObject did solve the problem. A simple
patch is included below, doing nothing else than disabling the StubObject for
the Parser class.

Regards,
Peter

---

includes/Setup.php : 244

- $wgParser = new StubObject( 'wgParser', $wgParserConf['class'], array(
$wgParserConf ) );
+ $wgParser = new $wgParserConf['class'] ($wgParserConf);

[Bug 17452] New: Complete migration of all application servers from Fedora to Ubuntu

Once External Storage migration has been resolved, we'll want to complete the
transition of all application servers from Fedora to our consistent Ubuntu
configuration.

Note that resolution of bug 9204 (%2F in URL always returns 404 result) is
dependent on some tweak to Apache 2, so requires retiring the remaining Fedora
boxes which run Apache 1.

Note four of those ways are "don't encode them that way", and one is to use the
configuration option in Apache 2 mentioned above to disable the stupid
restriction. :)

Complete Apache 2 use is still pending on completion of the Ubuntu migration --
filing this as bug 17452 so we have it in the dependency tree.

*After* the migration is completed we can go ahead and disable the check. Until
then it should remain on so behavior will remain consistent.

[Bug 17454] New: m.wikipedia.org's "Show" button not expanding section on Nokia N95.

2009-02-11 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=17454

Summary: m.wikipedia.org's "Show" button not expanding section on
Nokia N95.
   Product: Wikipedia Mobile
   Version: .5
  Platform: Other
OS/Version: other
Status: NEW
  Severity: normal
  Priority: Normal
 Component: server
AssignedTo: hcat...@wikimedia.org
ReportedBy: nic...@gmail.com
CC: tf...@wikimedia.org

On the Nokia N95, the "Show" button does not seem to work for
http://m.wikipedia.org/

What happens:
* Open a mobile Wikipedia page, for example:
http://m.wikipedia.org/wiki?search=WW1 , on the phone.
* The page loads normally (looks the same as per a desktop machine, just on a
smaller & much narrower screen).
* Scroll to the end of the page, and there should be multiple "show" buttons
for later sections. So far so good.

The problem:
* Clicking on the "show" buttons has no obvious effect. I.e. The section does
not expand, as it does in say Firefox on a desktop machine.

Other info:
* The phone's browser has the "Java/ECMA script" option set to "Enabled".
* I can't readily see a way to get a JavaScript console to see an error message
or other debugging info, so I'm unsure what the problem is.

Background info:
* The Nokia N95 phone runs Symbian S60 3rd Edition with Feature Pack 1:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nokia_N95
* S60 comes bundled with a web browser based on a modified version of WebKit:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Web_Browser_for_S60 , and it's supposed to be a
semi-reasonable browser (especially for a mobile device), at least that's what
I've heard anecdotally and read online. Whether that is true or not, I don't
know.
* S60 has about a 45% market share of smartphones as at Nov 2008:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Market_share_of_mobile_os_s_2008.JPG , so
assuming it's not a settings/configuration issue on my phone, then it's
probably not a niche issue, and reasonable chance may happen on other Nokia
smartphones too - but I do not have an easy way of testing that.

To carify: I wrote about why it does NOT make sense to provide the feed via
IRC, and why XMPP would be much better.

nom nom nom :)

To summarize for those too lazy to go read the awesome blog post:

* Provide for Jabber output embedding XML payload in format of API
recentchanges feed
* Some internal interface making it easy for MW to ship those out to a Jabber
server to send to the outside world (some handy
UDP-packet-stream-to-XMPP-bridge so we can use off-the-shelf Jabber server for
that part?)
* in future, consider options for pubsub/filtering fancy stuff

So the intent is definitely to provide an easy-to-parse/machine-readable feed
specifically intended for this use? *drools*

[Bug 17456] New: Implement collapsible tables in core javascript

2009-02-11 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=17456

Summary: Implement collapsible tables in core javascript
   Product: MediaWiki
   Version: 1.15-svn
  Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
  Keywords: need-review, patch
  Severity: enhancement
  Priority: Normal
 Component: User interface
AssignedTo: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org
ReportedBy: happy_me...@hotmail.co.uk

Created an attachment (id=5806)
 --> (https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/attachment.cgi?id=5806)
Against r47169, implements CollapsibleTables from en.wiki in wikibits.js

This functionality is very much taken for granted, we forget that it's not
actually available in core, and must be ported to every wiki that wishes to use
it (which is a large number). I've rewritten the code from en.wiki to remove
the external dependencies, it should now run on a clean MW installation using
only the getElementsByClassName() function that's already in wikibits.js. The
show/hide link titles are translatable (they use the same values by default as
the show/hide links in the expanded watchlist, although of course the JS
variables can be overwritten for more specific customisation).

Only thing that I'm not sure about is how pages will appear when this code is
deployed if a wiki already has an implementation in their Common.js. I suspect
double show/hide links will appear; but since AFAIK core JS executes before
site JS before user JS, there's nothing that can be added to the core code to
prevent the site code from acting (short of removing the "collapsible" classes,
which might be a *little* extreme :D).

Patch needs thorough review (I've tested the JavaScript, but not the
implementation).

Even the other Wikimedia projects wouldn't use this. It doesn't make sense in
the context of
*Commons, where there are no citations
*Meta, where there is generally no content requiring citation
*Wikisource, where there is (AFAIK) no content requiring citation
*Wikibooks (maybe), where citations works quite differently
*Wikiversity (probably)
*Incubator (some of the time), which incubates more than just new Wikipedia
projects

I'd suggest this is a bad idea for core software, but might be implemented as
an extension if well thought-out. By well thought-out, I mean that benefits
outweigh costs - one major cost is edit form complexity which is contrary to
our current focus on usability. It's not clear to me that the added benefit is
worth it, even (especially?) for Wikipedia.

What's this variable intended to mean? It seems a little clear and there's no
way to configure it, which would appear to make making it a variable kind of
silly. :)

The first word ("many") is marked red, but also the word "are" is involved in
this turnaround!
So the whole change (both words) should be marked red.

By default, 200 pictures will be displayed per page in a category, however 200
is sometimes too big for some special categories and may make readers crazzy
while loading those categories, such as the category "Category:Animated GIF" in
WikiCommons.

So how about adding a new option for editors or readers to customize the number
of pictures per page in some special categories?

[Bug 13260] post expand size counted multiple times for nested transclusions

--- Comment #3 from Jesse PW (Pathoschild)
2009-02-12 07:57:19 UTC ---
Increased severity; this drastically affects labeled section transclusion on
Meta, where it is used for language-specific subpages of large multilingual
pages. In that case, a simple template that transcludes a localization (with
English fallback) multiplies the size of each localization by 4 times, or 8
times if part of a meta-template like {{language subpage|pt}}. This glitch
makes it virtually impossible to cleanly subdivide large pages, which are the
ones most in need of subdivision for usability, even if the resulting page has
relatively little output.

(multiplied 4 times:
{{#if:{{#lst:page|section}}|{{#lst:page|section}}|}}, counted twice
because it's in a template; this in turn counted twice if part of a
meta-template.)
