[Bug 17486] New: Editnotices generating invalid XML (HTML) around unordered lists
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=17486 Summary: Editnotices generating invalid XML (HTML) around unordered lists Product: MediaWiki Version: 1.14-svn Platform: All URL: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk:Ioet h&action=edit OS/Version: All Status: NEW Severity: normal Priority: Normal Component: Page editing AssignedTo: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org ReportedBy: ioeth.troco...@gmail.com It has been brought to my attention at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:TW/BUG#TW-B-0250 that Twinkle (and WP:FRIENDLY|Friendly as well, of course) are having problems editing pages that are utilizing editnotices. I think I've tracked the problem down to a case of bad XML (HTML) being returned from the server, although I cannot figure out what the cause would be, other than a bug in the MediaWiki software. That being the case, I'm coming here to confirm. I'll be using the talk page of User:Amalthea (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Amalthea) to demonstrate what I'm talking about. First, have a look at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Amalthea/Editnotice. Pretty standard, right? And when you do a "View Page Source" have a look at the HTML generated by the {{tmbox}} template, in particular at the end of the unordered list ( tag). Nothing wrong there. Now, have a look at the same section of HTML when you edit Amalthea's talk page (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk:Amalthea&action=edit). What I'm seeing is that the tag from the {{tmbox}} template is somehow being placed before the tags that close the unordered list. Immediately following the line is a line with to close the table row. This is clearly incorrect and is, I believe, causing the XML parser to bomb out when doing Twinkle or Friendly functions to pages where this occurs. If I just use one line of plain text in an editnotice, the corresponding HTML on the page where it is displayed is correct. However, if I use a bulleted list, the MediaWiki software incorrectly places the tag exactly as it was doing to the tag in the previous example. It seems that there might be a problem specifically with unordered lists in editnotices. Have a look at editing my user talk page (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk:Ioeth&action=edit) for an example. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug. https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=17483 Summary: Thumbnail creation of animated images Product: MediaWiki Version: unspecified Platform: All OS/Version: All Status: NEW Severity: normal Priority: Normal Component: Images AssignedTo: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org ReportedBy: p...@borntolaugh.de When using animated gifs on a wiki the MediaWiki software tries to create thumbnails of the images resulting in server timeouts when the maximum php execution time is reached. For example when you try to upload a duplicate of an animation and the duplicate warning is shown on the upload page, the software tries to create the thumbnail and it is possible that only a white page is shown when the server stops. So you have no chance to complete the upload of the image in that case. The same problem comes up when you go to [[Special:NewImages]] and the software tries to create thumbnails for all displayed images that need a thumbnail. Would it be possible to prevent that or do the thumbnail creation for large images in a different way (maybe per cron job)? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug. Otherwise, one is required to hide the username on many many wikis. Whether this uses the revision deletion log suppression or something else is for a coder to decide, though I think it makes sense to use pre-existing infrastructure. Since stewards have access to oversight/revision deletion it seems to me that using log suppression for this would be uncontroversial, even though it'd affect all wikis. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug. [Bug 17459] Special:Ask in SMW 1.4.2 incompatible with MediaWiki <=1.13
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=17459 --- Comment #6 from Siebrand 2009-02-13 14:04:16 UTC --- No problem on my side, Markus. As for maintaining compatibility: I kind of agree with your point of view, but I hadn't thought of the 'out of sync with MediaWiki regular releases for SMW' thing. extensions/Wikidata/ has the same thing. OmegaWiki.org is running MW 1.10alpha, which is also kind of bad... As for dropping support for earlier versions: I would advocate dropping support for SMW with any MediaWiki version that is no longer supported. In general, this is until one year after a 0-point release. A record of this is kept on http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/End_of_Life_Policy. End of life for MediaWiki 1.12.x is by the end of March 2009, 1.11.x has been end of life for a while. You are of course free to choose any compatibility scheme you choose as the SMW development community, but I think that supporting end of life versions, which may contains unpatched vulnerabilities, etc., will surely have outdated functionality and localisation for the core product, is not in the interest of the users of SMW. It also means that your release cycles require more QA as you get more versions to test compatibility against, which makes development cycles longer, more expensive, etc. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are on the CC list for the bug. ___ Wikibugs-l mailing list Wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wikibugs-l

In any case, the INSTALL file does not reflect this requirement. I have now released a workaround based on replacing the Special_Ask file with the previous revision, available at http://svn.wikimedia.org/svnroot/mediawiki/tags/extensions/SemanticMediaWiki/REL_1_4_2/specials/AskSpecial/SMW_SpecialAsk_MW1.13.php (see also http://semantic-mediawiki.org/wiki/SMW_1.4.2). Siebrand: I suggest that we try to find some better way of communication among developers in order to avoid such confusions. Is it viable for you to preserve MediaWiki version compatibility of SMW in general, or at least to discuss major requirement changes with us? before committing? We certainly would not want to loose your contributions to the project based on impractical requirements from our side. Do you think that the next major release of SMW should drop all MW <=1.13 compatibility? (Are all major sites updated yet?) We can take this discussion to email, if you like. I will close this bug by either changeing our requirements for the future, or by modifying special ask to work with MW 1.13 again. https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=17476 Summary: Run 'fix redirects' for nl.wikipedia (possibly more sites need it) Product: Wikimedia Version: unspecified Platform: All OS/Version: All Status: NEW Severity: normal Priority: Normal Component: Site requests AssignedTo: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org ReportedBy: siebr...@wikipedia.be Round the end of January there has been some time where created redirect source pages were not tagged as redirects, leading to redirect pages that did not redirect (ugh). One of the occurences was mentioned in the nl.wp village pump[2] and fixed by forcing an edit[1]. I fear there may be more in nl.wp, and that there may be more wikis with the same issues elsewhere in the Wikimedia universe. On IRC IAlex tells me that there allegedly is a maintenance script to fix this. Please run it for nl.wikipedia, so that these inconsistencies are fixed. [Bug 9838] Send notification to account owner on multiple unsuccessful login attempts
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=9838 Platonides changed: What|Removed |Added CC||platoni...@gmail.com --- Comment #4 from Platonides 2009-02-13 12:46:08 UTC --- Instead of a session variable, it should use memcached, as the password throttle. With that implementation, asking for the password 9 times, produces 3 emails saying that there were 'three or more attempts'. It should try to provide the exact number. In fact, the email should be delayed until after X time without login attempts or the ip is throttled. Also it has to be considered that it is a way of spamming. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug. [Bug 8460] Security question for password reminder emails
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=8460 Platonides changed: What|Removed |Added CC||platoni...@gmail.com Status|NEW |RESOLVED Resolution||FIXED --- Comment #3 from Platonides 2009-02-13 12:39:03 UTC --- Security questions add yet another thing users need to fill and remember. There're captchas and throttles in place now, so this shouldn't be a big problem. Also, you shouldn't need to login to disable those secondary passwords. The second request disable the first provided secondary password. So there can be only two valid passwords at a given time, with the secondary expiring after $wgNewPasswordExpiry (by default, a week). Those would-be crackers have a hard time to guess the generated passwords. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug. [Bug 17456] Implement collapsible tables in core javascript
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=17456 --- Comment #6 from Splarka 2009-02-13 08:53:37 UTC --- I would suggest just adding simple helper functions to core, or doing this all as a fully integrated (with non-JS and print gracefully handled). Such helper functions could simply be, for example, easy ways to create a show/hide link and insert it into a specific node, and associate it with a given sibling object to that node. The TOC show/hide functionality could even be abstracted and used as the target of such aforementioned-helperfully-generated (is that a word?) links. But, adding yet another rarely-used over-specific chunk of js bloat to core is a /bad idea/, IMHO. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug. [Bug 17456] Implement collapsible tables in core javascript
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=17456 --- Comment #5 from Happy-melon 2009-02-13 08:37:22 UTC --- And yet, if you were doing that, you just wouldn't use the 'autocollapse' class... Now you come to mention it, it seems decreasingly useful: I just copied it from the en.wiki JavaScript. It would be easy for sites to write extra 'modules' that collapse things according to other parameters - en.wiki will need to do that anyway, having the "innercollapse" and "outercollapse" classes to play with. Perhaps it's only basic "collapsed" that should be supported in core... -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug. [Bug 17475] New: Index sighted revisions only on de-wp
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=17475 Summary: Index sighted revisions only on de-wp Product: MediaWiki Version: unspecified Platform: All OS/Version: All Status: NEW Severity: enhancement Priority: Normal Component: Search AssignedTo: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org ReportedBy: gnu1...@arcor.de Please evaluate the possibility that the search engine indexes sighted revisions only. This is to prevent vandalism to be displayed at a prominent place. Background: After the elections in Israel a few days ago the articles about the candidates like Benjamin Netanjahu are both interesting for readers and target to vandals. This article was vandalised on the 12th february at 04:29 CET in a horrible way (think of Hitler and the Shoah and you'll guess what i mean). The vandalism was undone about 15 minutes later and the revision was deleted in the meantime. Unfortunately the daily search-indexing of de-wp took place during that quarter of an hour, so the vandalism showed up every time someone searched for Netanjahu. When i was told about this i asked at #wikimedia-tech to manually re-index de-wp. Every article on de-wp has a sighted revision by now, so this solution would prevent offenses like the one described above. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug.
