[Bug 18270] Some IIS-based configuration doesn't serve 404 errors from PHP correctly

2009-04-20 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=18270

--- Comment #15 from Shawn Desjardins   2009-04-21
02:58:00 UTC ---
Okay just to make sure that I did everything right according to your
instructions I did another clean install with a once again fresh download of
the wiki software, and I am still having the same issue with a generic 404 page
coming up. It happens when:

I click on the links to a user page that does not exist.
I click on the links to a users talk page that does not exist. (When I click on
a talk page to an article that does not yet have a talk page of it's own, it
goes directly to the editing this page function through the &redlink=1 that is
already in the hyper link)
I click on a link for a "special page" ( like help: or desjardins:)
that does not exist.
I type in the search box anything with a colon (user:someone, or
help:something) that a page does not exist and then clock on "GO" or press the
Enter key. (But I get the correct Wiki the page does not exist etc... page when
I press "search".)

So that tells me something is missing in the error checking of the wiki
software to properly handle non existant pages and therefore gives up and IIS
has nothing better to do than return a 404 page.

I do have programming knowledge but I am not an expert php programmer, I am not
an expert webmaster, I simply followed the instructions provided and this is
what I am encountering. I do not recall anywhere telling me where I needed to
set up how to handle 404 errors, or non-existent pages, or that I had to set up
IIS any diferently to handle 404 errors other than what was there already.

[Bug 16950] Show move log when viewing/creating a deleted page

2009-04-20 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=16950

--- Comment #15 from Aryeh Gregor   2009-04-21
01:26:14 UTC ---
-* @param $type String: A log type ('upload', 'delete', etc)
+* @param $type Array: Log types ('upload', 'delete', etc)

"String or array" is more correct.

+ // If $type is not an array, make it an array
+   if ( !is_array( $type ) )
+   {
+   $type=array( "$type" );
+   }

This should just be:

$type = (array)$type;

Also note some style issues here (opening brace is on the same line as the if,
"=" should have spaces around it).

Also, $type should probably be renamed $types, it's a little confusing now.

-   if( isset($wgLogRestrictions[$type]) &&
!$wgUser->isAllowed($wgLogRestrictions[$type]) ) {
+   foreach ( $type as $i => $t ) {
+   if( isset( $wgLogRestrictions[$t] ) &&
!$wgUser->isAllowed($wgLogRestrictions[$t]) ) {
+   unset( $type["$i"] );
+   }

You seem to have too much indentation here. $type["$i"] seems a bit odd to me,
may as well just be $type[$i]. Also, maybe best to avoid the extra $i and do
$type = array_diff( $type, array( $t ) ) instead of the unset.  If $type were
renamed $types, you could do foreach ( $types as $type ) instead of the
slightly confusing $t.

+   if ( count($type)==0 ) {

Style:

if ( count( $type ) == 0 ) {

We use lots of spaces . . .

-   'type' => 'delete',
+   'type' => '',

-   array( 'type' => 'delete', 'page' =>
$this->mTitle->getPrefixedText() )
+   array( 'type' => '', 'page' =>
$this->mTitle->getPrefixedText() )

Is there a reason you're doing 'type' => '' instead of just dropping type
altogether?  Does that not work?

-'recreate-deleted-warn'=> "'''Warning: You are recreating a page
that was previously deleted.'''
+'moveddeleted-notice' => 'This page has been moved and/or
deleted.
+The move and deletion log for the page are provided below for reference.',
+'recreate-moveddeleted-warn' => "'''Warning: You are recreating a page
that was previously moved and/or deleted.'''

Moving without redirect is very unlikely compared to deletion, so I think it
would be best to keep these saying just "deleted" instead of "moved and/or
deleted". If you're going to keep both, I'd say "deleted and/or moved without
redirect", which a) puts the common case first and b) makes it clear when this
actually shows up (you won't see it for pages that were moved normally and not
deleted).

(Why did you change the order of these two messages?)

I don't see any other problems. With these fixed, I'd be willing to commit it,
if no problems show up when I test it out.

No. Testing during initial deployment of the sharpening feature indicated that
although it improves photos, it reduces the quality of diagrams and other
images with large regions of solid colour. Since photos are usually uploaded as
JPEG, and diagrams are not, we applied the sharpening only to JPEGs.

Can you please explain what is this "serious restoration" that you keep going
on about and why it has any relevance to Wikipedia?

[Bug 18540] New: Change TorBlock configuration on WMF wikis

After discussion at
http://techblog.wikimedia.org/2009/04/planning-to-tighten-torblock-restrictions/
and http://lists.wikimedia.org/pipermail/wikitech-l/2009-April/042434.html ,
there's nearly unanimous agreement to change the configuration of the TorBlock
extension to make it more strict.

I believe what's needed is to set:
$wgGroupPermissions['user']['torunblocked'] = true;

This change should probably be made concurrently with bug 18337 ("Enable "IP
block exemption" on all Wikimedia wikis").

Google only does this sometimes, FWIW. Compare the above link to this:

The "did you mean" results aren't provided automatically (although in this case
the top result matches anyway, admittedly). They probably have some fancy
heuristics to decide how useful it would be.

Committed the patch (with slight modifications) in r49677. We really ought to
rewrite the FormatExif class so that we can merge the "GPS*Ref" values with
their parent values (e.g. "Longitude = 43° 46' North" rather than separate
entries for "Longitude = 43° 46', Longitude reference = North"), which is
something the current design makes difficult, but at least the values are
displayed now.

It doesn't show thumbnails, so what does it show?

In your attached LocalSettings.php, you've got lots and lots of require_once()
calls including core files: this should not be necessary. You should add the
extension-related require_once() calls to the *bottom* of LocalSettings.php.
You should also not be redefining all of $wgSpecialPageGroups, instead just add
or alter stuff using $wgSpecialPageGroups['specialpagename'] = 'groupname';

I have recently located two notible errors/bugs with the MediaWiki software,
the first being a bug which returns this prompt;

* " A database query syntax error has occurred. This may indicate a bug in the
software. The last attempted database query was: "

It most probably occured in response to installing conflicting extensions. I
have made provision a revised version of the Local Settings for the site to
further investigate the matter.

Secondly, the recent transition of image to file tags on the main MediaWiki
application has contributed to no images (thumbnails) being displayable on the
site. Only the logo and the original image file shows images, not thumbnailed
or embedded images.

If at all possible, please review these bugs for consistancy and program
continuity.

This likely a dupe bug, but I can't find it.

File attached of the problematic issue. Diffs where some of the content has
been suppressed using RevisionDelete render vertically in certain browsers
(like Safari). My specific browser is Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X
10_5_6; en-us) AppleWebKit/525.27.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.2.1
Safari/525.27.1

I imagine this is a WebKit bug of some sort; Firefox does _not_ exhibit the bad
rendering.

At this point, the quality of DYM suggestions are perhaps not good enough to
prioritize those links, as there are many cases in which this would be a
problem, and few where it would be a help (that I could quickly identify).
Perhaps there could be some statistics run on the search logs to gauge what
percentage of searches would be benefited by this feature compared to those
which would not - aka, the relevance of the did you mean in comparison to a
human interpretation of the query (naturally this would be a somewhat smaller
sample size). In the mean time, it's a good idea, but we're not ready for it /
have not planned it well enough yet.

I tried to implement the proposal of Simetrical. I must admit, I don't really
understand parts of the code (lines 565 and 567/571 of the patched
LogEventsList). Therefore this patch should not be applied without testing it
thoroughly.

As Mormegil notes in comment #6, the problem is that the whole feature has been
designed ass-backwards. Any design that requires the code to update a
bazillion watchlist records whenever a busy and popular page changes is not
going to scale well. It's not as if it should be difficult to do it the right
way (store last visit timestamp in watchlist, compare with last update
timestamp in page/recentchanges table).

I do not see any error pages provided by the mediawiki software, If you could
point me to what page the 404 is supposed to point to than I am happy to do so.
I came here for help, cause I obviously had an issue. I followed (probably
should not have) the instructions for installing mediawiki software, and this
is where I am at now.

--- Comment #3 from Brion Vibber   2009-04-20 14:06:07 UTC
---
I dropped out the 'projection' because it saved a few bytes to remove what
seemed useless and incorrect... no browser that I knew of used it, and per spec
it has very specific semantic differences from 'screen' -- it's meant to be a
paged type (like printing) rather than allowing continuous scrolling, and
implies other structural differences -- so it's really not something I'd have
expected to ever come up in a real-world context.

While it looks semantically incorrect for Opera to be using 'projection'
instead of 'screen' when in full-screen zoom, there's probably no point to
breaking it. :)

Should be easy enough to transform 'screen' back to 'screen, projection' here.

[Bug 18531] New: Hiding can hide a bit too well

2009-04-20 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=18531

   Summary: Hiding can hide a bit too well
   Product: MediaWiki
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
  Severity: enhancement
  Priority: Normal
 Component: Blocking
AssignedTo: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org
ReportedBy: ft2.w...@gmail.com

I have been trying to sort out a checkuser/oversight case, and noticed I've
been greatly hampered by the "hide username" function. While this is extremely
valuable, it also makes it near impossible to track down edits of a disruptive
user, which is precisely the kind of work oversighters and checkusers often
have to do.

(More generally, in the past it's been possible for anyone to track a change
such as a rename, move, oversighting, or deletion in the logs and history
provided they are able to see the source entries (ie have the appropriate
admin/oversight rights needed). We need to not lose that ability with these new
tools.)

REQUEST:

If the user viewing material is an oversighter or otherwise would be allowed to
see or modify the "hide username" setting, then the username appears as
"[deleted] (show/hide)" or "[hidden] (show/hide)" in lists and other places,
not just be omitted.
